River Oaks is an unincorporated community in San Benito County, California, United States. River Oaks is located on the south bank of the Pajaro River and California State Route 129, 4.5 miles (7.2 km) northwest of San Juan Bautista.

Rancho Las Aromitas y Agua Caliente, commonly known as Rancho Las Aromas, was a 8,660-acre (35.0 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day San Benito County, California given in 1835 by Governor José Castro to Juan Miguel Anzar. The name means "little perfumes and hot spring" and refers to nearby sulfur springs. The grant is close to the Santa Cruz County, California line and encompassed present-day Aromas.

Pescadero Creek is a 9-mile-long (14 km) southward-flowing stream originating in the southern Santa Cruz Mountains. It begins in Santa Clara County, California and flows into Santa Cruz County, before joining the Pajaro River, and thence to Monterey Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Pescadero Creek is the center of a critical linkage connecting the wildlife of the southern Santa Cruz Mountains to the Gabilan Range to the south.

Aromas (Spanish for "Perfumes") is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Monterey County and San Benito County, California, United States. The population was 2,708 at the 2020 census.The CDP straddles the border of the two counties, with Monterey County to the west and San Benito County to the east. The Santa Cruz County line is less than a mile to the northwest, and Santa Clara County is about 2 miles (3 km) to the north. Its population was almost equally distributed between the two counties with 1,358 in Monterey County and 1,292 in San Benito County; this was down from a population of 2,797 during the 2000 census (1,427 in Monterey County and 1,370 in San Benito County). Aromas is one of four CDPs in California that are divided between two or more counties. The others are Kingvale (divided between Placer County and Nevada County), Kirkwood (divided between Alpine County and Amador County), and Tahoma (divided between Placer County and El Dorado County).

The San Benito River is a 109 miles (175 km) long river flowing northwesterly between the Diablo Range and the Gabilan Range, on the Central Coast of California. The river begins in southeasternmost San Benito County, California and ends in the extreme northwestern part of the county, where it is a tributary to the Pajaro River. The San Benito River is longer than the Pajaro River and it drains more area, although it has proportionally lower flows.

Rancho Juristac was a 4,540-acre (18.4 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day Santa Clara County, California given in 1835 by Governor José Castro to Antonio and Faustino German. The rancho (also called "La Brea") was once noted for its liquid petroleum deposits. Rancho Juristac, five miles south of Gilroy, is the southernmost rancho in Santa Clara County, and encompasses Sargent.

Rancho Cañada de la Carpenteria was a 2,236-acre (9.05 km2) Mexican land grant in present day Monterey County, California given in 1835 by Governor José Castro to Joaquín Soto. The name means valley of the carpenter's shop. The grant was near the San Benito County, California line, in hilly terrain north of Rancho Los Carneros and encompassed the former settlement of Dunbarton.

Tar Creek is an 8-mile-long (13 km) mainly southeastward-flowing stream originating on the eastern slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains, in southern Santa Clara County, California, United States. Tar Creek flows through the Sargent Ranch, once the Rancho Juristac Mexican Land grant. It crosses under U.S. Highway 101 and about 5 miles (8.0 km) south of Gilroy, California joins lower Uvas Creek (also known as Carnadero Creek). From the Tar Creek confluence, lower Uvas Creek flows shortly south to its confluence with the Pajaro River at the Santa Clara County - San Benito County boundary.

Rancho Los Carneros was a 1,629-acre (6.59 km2) Mexican land grant in present day Monterey County, California given in 1842 by Governor Juan B. Alvarado to María Antonia Linares. The name means "sheep". The grant was near the San Benito County, California line and south of Rancho Cañada de la Carpenteria.

Dr. TJ Owens Gilroy Early College Academy (known as GECA) is an early college high school located in unincorporated Santa Clara County, California, near Gilroy, at the southern edge of Silicon Valley, in the San Francisco Bay Area. A California Distinguished School, GECA regularly ranks among the top high schools in California and consistently ranks within the top 1% of the best high schools in the United States.Founded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, GECA operates as an early college school, requiring its students to receive their college preparatory education through a mixture of honors high school classes, Advanced Placement (AP), and college classes, offered through partnership with Gavilan College, allowing most GECA students to graduate high school with an associate's degree. GECA students have regularly been selected as National Merit Scholars and U.S. Presidential Scholars.

The Marentis House, at 45 Monterey Street in San Juan Bautista, California, was built in 1873. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.It was designed in Gothic Revival style by George Chalmers, a local builder/architect who was from New England and was believed to have been influenced by Alexander Jackson Davis, an architect who authored/illustrated pattern books. The house was built by Thomas W. Bermingham, another local builder.It has twin gables facing to the front, from a steeply pitched roof, which was originally shingled with redwood shingles. Two upper front windows have Eastlake window hoods and much of the original glass remains in its windows. The house's floors and ceilings are made of redwood tongue-and-groove boards.It received limited earthquake retrofitting in the 1990s along with a mahogany gothic library and rebuilt fireplaces and chimney. The original Eastlake front door was replaced with a gothic style Dutch door.
