Acton State Historic Site

Acton is a small unincorporated community located approximately seven miles (11 km) due east of Granbury on the Brazos River in Hood County, Texas, United States. Acton was formerly called Commanche Peak and was later renamed to Acton, possibly after the old English word meaning "oak town", a reference to the large stands of oak trees in the vicinity.It is the home of Acton State Historic Site, which is the burial site of Elizabeth Crockett, second wife of Davy Crockett. The site consists of 0.006 acres (24 m2), which makes it the smallest state historical site in Texas (previously the smallest state park, until the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department transferred management of all its historical sites to the Texas Historical Commission). The Acton Nature Center of Hood County is open to anyone who enjoys the peace and quiet of nature at its finest. Hiking and bike trails will lead you around the center's 80 acres (0.32 km2) park. Acton is part of the Granbury, Texas Micropolitan Statistical Area. A large portion of the area is in the DeCordova ETJ. Acton/DCBE Fire Department, United Cooperative Services and AMUD provide services to the area. In 1990, the population was about 450 people.

DeCordova is an unincorporated city in Hood County, Texas, United States. As of the US 2018 Population estimates, it had a population of 3169.It is a gated residential community located on Lake Granbury, 6 miles (10 km) east-southeast of Granbury, and is part of the Granbury, Texas Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Fall Creek is a master-planned community in unincorporated Harris County, Texas, United States. The 1,300 acres (530 ha) community is 3 miles (4.8 km) away from George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and 15 miles (24 km) away from Downtown Houston. Fall Creek was developed by Johnson Development and Jefferson Development.

The De Cordova Bend Dam is a man-made dam on the Brazos River in Hood County, Texas, United States, controlled by the Brazos River Authority. De Cordova Bend Dam forms the 8,300-acre (34 km2) Lake Granbury. The dam is so named because of the clockwise almost-complete loop in the Brazos River named De Cordova Bend after Jacob De Cordova. The dam is one of only three damming the Brazos River.

Lake Granbury is a North Texas reservoir near Granbury, Texas. It was created in 1969 and is one of three lakes damming the Brazos River. Lake Granbury is contained by the De Cordova Bend Dam and is a long, narrow lake, encompassed by 103 miles (221 km) of shoreline. The lake is controlled by the Brazos River Authority in Granbury.

Canyon Creek is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Hood County, Texas, United States. The population was 916 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Granbury micropolitan area as well as the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.

Pecan Plantation is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in southeastern Hood County, Texas, United States. Its population was 5,294 at the 2010 census, up from 3,544 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Granbury, Texas, micropolitan statistical area.

Stockton Bend, formerly Brazos Bend, is a city in Hood County, Texas, United States. It was incorporated in May 2004 originally as "Brazos Bend", and is located along the main stem of the Brazos River. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 380. The city is part of the Granbury, Texas Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name was recently changed to "Stockton Bend".

Granbury is a city in and the county seat of Hood County, Texas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city's population was 10,958, and it is the principal city of the Granbury micropolitan statistical area. Granbury is named after Confederate General Hiram B. Granbury. Granbury started as a square and log cabin courthouse. Many buildings on the square are now registered historic landmarks, including the Granbury Opera House, which still hosts "Broadway" productions. The city's name originated from Confederate General Hiram B. Granberry. To explain why the city name is spelled differently, some scholars believe the name Granberry was misread on a document. Recent findings conclude that Granberry chose to spell his name Granbury.[2] A recent expansion of the city was made possible by building a Brazos River dam in 1969, which formed Lake Granbury, a long, narrow lake that flows through the city.

The Hood County Courthouse Historic District in Granbury, Hood County, Texas encompasses 12 acres of land. The principal building in and the focal point of the district is the historic Hood County Courthouse built in 1890–1891. Other major buildings include the 1885 Hood County Jailhouse, the 1885 First National Bank Building, the 1891 building which formerly housed the Hood County News, the 1893 Aston-Landers Saloon Building, the 1893 Nutt Brothers Building, and the 1886 Granbury Opea House. On June 5, 1974, the district was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The nomination form called it "one of the most complete nineteenth century courthouse squares in Texas." The district is also recognized as a State Antiquities Landmark and includes several Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks.

KPIR (1420 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Granbury, Texas, serving Hood County. It is owned by Jerry Reynolds, with the license held by KPIR Granbury, LLC. It airs a classic country radio format, featuring Texas country artists. It also carries Granbury High School football games. Because the team is known as The Pirates, the station calls itself "Pirate 1420." The station broadcasts at 500 watts using a directional antenna at all times. It transmits from a three tower array in the daytime and from two towers at night. In addition to its broadcasts, the station can be heard streaming on its website.

Granbury Independent School District is a public school district based in Granbury, Texas (USA). In addition to Granbury, the district serves the eastern Hood County cities of DeCordova and Stockton Bend (formerly Brazos Bend), and the majority of Cresson. The district boundary also includes the unincorporated communities of Canyon Creek, Oak Trail Shores, and Pecan Plantation. Small portions of Parker, Johnson, and Somervell counties also lie within the district. In 2009, the school district was rated "recognized" by the Texas Education Agency. In 2022, the district was involved in controversy around the actions of superintendent Jeremy Glenn, who specifically ordered district librarians to remove books with LGBTQ themes and characters. Legal experts said that these actions raised constitutional concerns of illegal discrimination.
