Lake Granbury

The De Cordova Bend Dam is a man-made dam on the Brazos River in Hood County, Texas, United States, controlled by the Brazos River Authority. De Cordova Bend Dam forms the 8,300-acre (34 km2) Lake Granbury. The dam is so named because of the clockwise almost-complete loop in the Brazos River named De Cordova Bend after Jacob De Cordova. The dam is one of only three damming the Brazos River.

Pecan Plantation is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in southeastern Hood County, Texas, United States. Its population was 5,294 at the 2010 census, up from 3,544 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Granbury, Texas, micropolitan statistical area.

Fall Creek is a master-planned community in unincorporated Harris County, Texas, United States. The 1,300 acres (530 ha) community is 3 miles (4.8 km) away from George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and 15 miles (24 km) away from Downtown Houston. Fall Creek was developed by Johnson Development and Jefferson Development.

DeCordova is an unincorporated city in Hood County, Texas, United States. As of the US 2018 Population estimates, it had a population of 3169.It is a gated residential community located on Lake Granbury, 6 miles (10 km) east-southeast of Granbury, and is part of the Granbury, Texas Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Canyon Creek is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Hood County, Texas, United States. The population was 916 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Granbury micropolitan area as well as the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.

Acton State Historic Site, located near Acton approximately 6 miles (10 km) east of Granbury in Hood County, Texas (United States), is the grave site of Elizabeth Patton Crockett, second wife of Davy Crockett, who married him in Tennessee in 1815. She died January 31, 1860. The site also contains the graves of her son Robert and Robert's wife Matilda. A monument was erected in 1913 at Acton Cemetery over the grave of Elizabeth with money authorized by the Texas Legislature in 1911. On January 1, 2008, Acton was transferred from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to the Texas Historical Commission. The entire site is 12 feet (3.7 m) wide by 21 feet (6.4 m) long, or 0.006 acre (23 m²), making it Texas' smallest historic site.

Acton is a small unincorporated community located approximately seven miles (11 km) due east of Granbury on the Brazos River in Hood County, Texas, United States. Acton was formerly called Commanche Peak and was later renamed to Acton, possibly after the old English word meaning "oak town", a reference to the large stands of oak trees in the vicinity.It is the home of Acton State Historic Site, which is the burial site of Elizabeth Crockett, second wife of Davy Crockett. The site consists of 0.006 acres (24 m2), which makes it the smallest state historical site in Texas (previously the smallest state park, until the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department transferred management of all its historical sites to the Texas Historical Commission). The Acton Nature Center of Hood County is open to anyone who enjoys the peace and quiet of nature at its finest. Hiking and bike trails will lead you around the center's 80 acres (0.32 km2) park. Acton is part of the Granbury, Texas Micropolitan Statistical Area. A large portion of the area is in the DeCordova ETJ. Acton/DCBE Fire Department, United Cooperative Services and AMUD provide services to the area. In 1990, the population was about 450 people.

Happy Hill Farm is a Thoroughbred horse racing operation in Newtown Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. It was originally owned by Cortright Wetherill (1923-1988) and his wife Ella A. Widener-Wetherill (1928-1986) whose Widener family of Philadelphia is one of the most prominent and respected in American Thoroughbred racing history. Most notably, Happy Hill Farm was the breeder of the Kentucky-born stallion Raise a Native who became one of the most important sires in North America. With trainer Frank I. Wright, the Wetherills had a number of successes on the racetrack. In 1968, Ludham won the New York and Sheepshead Bay Handicaps. Their gelding Kingmaker won races from age three through five including the Whitney Handicap and New Orleans Handicap in 1957 and in 1958, the Excelsior Handicap. In recent years, Peter Wetherill raced multiple winner Self Rising, a son of Classic Race winner Hansel, and currently has Academy Royale, sired by Breeders' Cup Mile winner Royal Academy, along with a few other horses competing on the New York racing circuit, all of which are trained by Peter D. Pugh.

North Central Texas Academy (NCTA) is a boarding, day, and international Christian school, located on a 500-acre campus known as Happy Hill Farm. It is fully accredited (K-12) by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). There is an athletic center, dining center, fine arts center, residences for boarding students, staff housing, an agricultural center with a show ring, livestock pens, stables and riding trails, athletic fields, a track and stadium, swimming pool, tennis courts, a welcome center, an inn and training center, and an administrative center.

Rainbow is an unincorporated community in Somervell County, Texas, United States. It is located on Farm to Market Road 200, four miles northeast of Glen Rose. The community is a suburb of the Granbury, Texas Micropolitan Statistical Area. The origins of the community's name date back to the 1890s. Area residents requested a post office and gathered to choose a name. During the meeting, a thunderstorm occurred, followed by a rainbow. The residents, struck with the rainbow's beauty, named their town after it. In the 1920s, Rainbow had a population of approximately 113. The population began to decrease after that period, reaching a low of 40 in 1960. With the opening of nearby Dinosaur Valley State Park in the 1970s, the population increased. Current estimates of Rainbow's population range from 76 to 121. The Glen Rose Independent School District serves Rainbow area students.

Comanche Creek Reservoir (formerly Squaw Creek Reservoir) is a 3,275-acre (13.3 km²) impoundment located between Glen Rose, Texas and Granbury, Texas. The primary purpose is cooling for Comanche Peak Nuclear Generating Station. During full operation of both units of Comanche Peak, 2.2 million US gallons (8,300 m3) of water are pumped through the plant's main condensers from Comanche Creek Reservoir.The water is relatively clear and provides good bass fishing. The shoreline is rocky. Situated about 45 miles southwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in Hood and Somerville county this reservoir was built in 1979 by the Texas Utilities Generating Company (now Luminant Power), and has an average depth of 46 ft. This reservoir is used to cool down the nuclear power plant in Somerville county. There are several fish species such as Largemouth and Smallmouth bass, Channel catfish and Sunfish. Luminant Power also has a park that can be used for recreational purposes. The park was closed and scheduled to be reopened sometime in January 2022.

Granbury is a city in and the county seat of Hood County, Texas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city's population was 10,958, and it is the principal city of the Granbury micropolitan statistical area. Granbury is named after Confederate General Hiram B. Granbury. Granbury started as a square and log cabin courthouse. Many buildings on the square are now registered historic landmarks, including the Granbury Opera House, which still hosts "Broadway" productions. The city's name originated from Confederate General Hiram B. Granberry. To explain why the city name is spelled differently, some scholars believe the name Granberry was misread on a document. Recent findings conclude that Granberry chose to spell his name Granbury.[2] A recent expansion of the city was made possible by building a Brazos River dam in 1969, which formed Lake Granbury, a long, narrow lake that flows through the city.
