Brookland (also known as Little Rome) is a neighborhood located in the Northeast (NE) quadrant of Washington, D.C. It is best known for its numerous Catholic institutions, including schools, religious communities, shrines, institutes, and other organizations built and based around the Catholic University of America. Historically centered along 12th Street NE, Brookland is bounded by Taylor Street NE and Michigan Avenue NE to the northwest; by Rhode Island Avenue NE to the southeast; by South Dakota Avenue NE to the northeast; and by subway (Washington Metro's Red Line) and train (CSX) tracks to the west.The western boundary of the railroad tracks originated with the completion of the former Metropolitan Branch of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1873, which now incorporates the Washington Metro's Red Line. The railroad and subway tracks create the physical barrier that has separated Brookland from the Edgewood neighborhood to the west. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) provides public transportation services to and throughout Brookland, with two subway stations and several bus lines. Most of the Brookland neighborhood is served by the Washington Metropolitan Area Red Line Brookland–CUA Metro station, located between Monroe Street NE and Michigan Avenue NE. A small portion of the Brookland neighborhood located on Rhode Island Avenue NE is served by the Red Line Rhode Island Avenue Metro Station.

Ralph Bunche House was the home Ralph Bunche commissioned from Hilyard Robinson in 1941. It is located at 1510 Jackson Street, Northeast, Washington, D.C., United States, in the Brookland neighborhood.He lived there while he was a professor at Howard University, and worked at the State Department, from 1941 to 1947.It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. It was named as an endangered place by the D.C. Preservation League in 2001.

Dahlgreen Courts is a historic structure located in the Brookland neighborhood in the Northeast quadrant of Washington, D.C. The complex is made up of two buildings that contain 96 units. They were designed by George T. Santmyers and they were completed in stages between 1927 and 1929. The complex was listed on both the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites and on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

The Slowe-Burrill House is a Queen Anne-style house in the Brookland neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Built in 1890, the home was occupied from 1922 to 1937 by Lucy Slowe and Mary Burrill, notable African American educators who are thought by historians to have been a couple. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020 for its significance to African American and LGBT history.

Brentwood is a neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C. and is named after the Brentwood Mansion built at Florida Avenue and 6th Street NE in 1817 by Robert Brent, the first mayor of Washington City. He built it as a wedding present for his daughter Eleanor on her marriage as second wife to Congressman Joseph Pearson, and it stood for a hundred years before burning down in 1917.

Columbian Harmony Cemetery was an African-American cemetery that formerly existed at 9th Street NE and Rhode Island Avenue NE in Washington, D.C., in the United States. Constructed in 1859, it was the successor to the smaller Harmoneon Cemetery in downtown Washington. All graves in the cemetery were moved to National Harmony Memorial Park in Landover, Maryland, in 1959. The cemetery site was sold to developers, and a portion used for the Rhode Island Avenue – Brentwood Washington Metro station.

The Woodridge Neighborhood Library is a branch of the District of Columbia Public Library in the Woodridge neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It is located at 1801 Hamlin Street NE. A small sub-branch library at 2206 Rhode Island Ave NE served the neighborhood starting in 1929, and a full-fledged library branch opened at the current site in 1958. It was replaced in 2016 by a new, 20,000-square-foot library built at a cost of $16.5 million, after nearly three years of construction. The new building was designed by Wiencek & Associates and Bing Thom Architects.The new library's roof terrace is the first of its kind in the city. It is used for library and community programming, including concerts hosted by the DC Punk Archive.

St Anthony of Padua Church is a Roman Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of Washington, located at 1029 Monroe Street, NE, Washington, D.C. St. Anthony's was created by Cardinal James Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore, with the appointment of the first pastor, Rev. Desire C. DeWulf. Founded shortly after the Catholic University of America, the Franciscan Monastery, and the Dominican House of Studies in the Brookland neighborhood of Northeast Washington, St. Anthony's is the parish church for the section of the city commonly referred to as "Little Rome".

Engine Company No. 17 also known as Chemical Company No. 4 and the Brookland Firehouse, is a historic firehouse located at 1227 Monroe Street, NE, Washington, D.C. It was constructed in 1902 and housed an early “chemical company” which fought fires in outlying districts using large soda-acid extinguishers rather than using steam pumpers on the unreliable municipal water supply. The firehouse was innovative at the time of its construction, having a built-in electrical system, and it was designed to make use of the new call box system installed in the neighborhood. It was officially designated Engine Company 17 in 1905. It is built in the Romanesque Revival style with an asymmetrical design with both load-bearing masonry and structural iron. It was likely designed by Municipal Architect John B. Brady. In 2007 the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Firehouses of Washington DC MPS.

Rhode Island Avenue (also known as Rhode Island Avenue–Brentwood) is a Washington Metro station in Washington, D.C. on the Red Line. The station is located in the Brentwood neighborhood of Northeast, on an elevated platform crossing Rhode Island Avenue NE (U.S. Route 1)

Center of Concern (Center) was a think tank in Washington, D.C., that Jesuit Superior General Pedro Arrupe and National Conference of Catholic Bishops General Secretary Joseph Bernardin (later Cardinal Bernardin) co-founded on May 4, 1971. The Center started as a joint project of the Society of Jesus and the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (now United States Conference of Catholic Bishops), but has operated independently since then. On October 12, 2018, the Center of Concern announced that it no longer had the financial resources to sustain normal operations and that it had terminated all of its paid staff.

The Hecht Company Warehouse in Washington, D.C. is a Streamline Moderne style building. Designed by engineer Gilbert V. Steel of the New York engineering firm Abbott and Merkt, and prominently located on New York Avenue in Ivy City, it served as the central warehouse for The Hecht Company from its construction in 1937 and expansion in 1948. The building uses glass block extensively, culminating in a twelve-pointed star-shaped cupola at the corner, which is illuminated at night. Black brick interspersed with glass block spells out "The Hecht Co" at the fifth floor. At its opening, the building featured an in-house vehicle repair shop, air conditioning for the basement and first two floors, and three railroad track platforms. A careful rehabilitation was carried out in 1992, using matching materials. The site and surrounding area are currently under redevelopment to turn the building into a mixed-use retail and residential complex called the Hecht Warehouse District.
