Perth Castle

Fair Maid's House is an historic building in the centre of Perth, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. Located in North Port, it is a Category B listed building, partly dating from 1475 but mostly from 1629. It is two storeys, built of rubble, with a stair tower and slated roof. The building is most noted for providing part of the inspiration for Sir Walter Scott's novel The Fair Maid of Perth (1828). The Glover Incorporation of Perth bought the premises, and used it for their meeting hall for over 150 years. Their motto, "Grace and Peace", is carved above entrance door.The building still incorporates medieval parts, but most of its masonry has been renewed, and the interior was re-done between 1893 and 1894 by J. & G. Young architects for its then-owner, solicitor William Japp, of Alyth. (An error in an inscription in the exterior wall of the stair tower resulted in its reading 1393, instead of 1893.) A niche on an outside wall reputedly originally contained a curfew bell. A prayer niche and a fireplace on the first floor most likely date from the 15th century.The north wall of the building was part of the former Blackfriars Monastery (hence the street was formerly known as Blackfriars Wynd), where King James I of Scotland was murdered in 1437. The wall shows the location of two ancient fireplaces and the original level of the floor.Between 1965 and 1966, antique dealer Thomas Love & Sons used the premises.The building was restored and extended, at a cost of £750,000, by Page\Park Architects for the Royal Scottish Geographical Society in 2010–11, a project that won a commendation in the Scottish Civic Trust Awards 2012.

Perth Art Gallery is the principal art gallery and exhibition space in the city of Perth, Scotland. It is located partly in the Marshall Monument, named in memory of Thomas Hay Marshall, a former provost of Perth.The building was formerly known as Perth Museum and Art Gallery, ceasing to be so in anticipation of the new Perth Museum opening within Perth City Hall.

Perth Guildhall is a building at today's 102–106 High Street, Perth, Scotland. The structure, which stands at the corner of High and King Edward Streets, a block north of Perth City Hall, is Category B listed, dating to 1907. It stands on the site of a former guildhall that existed between 1722 and 1907. The previous building, which was torn down in May 1907, also used to hold theatre plays. Unlike today's three-storey structure, its predecessor was only two levels, the ground floor occupied by merchants, including D. Robertson booksellers and James Wotherspoon's hatters shortly before its demolition.The foundation stone of today's structure was laid in the second half of 1907 by incumbent Dean of Guild, James Barlas. It was opened on 29 August 1908. The building hosted the Guild's activities until 1988, at which point it suffered collateral damage from construction work on an adjacent building. The hall was deemed beyond economic repair, and was sold for development. The Guild used the funds to purchase new premises at 5 Atholl Street, near the North Inch. Its façade features sculptures in its segmental pediment, the work of H. H. Morton.

The Battle of the North Inch (also known as the Battle of the Clans) was a staged battle between the Clan Chattan and the "Clan Quhele" in September 1396. Thirty men were selected to represent each side in front of spectators, including King Robert III of Scotland and his court, on land that is now the North Inch park in Perth, Scotland. The Clan Chattan killed all but one of their opponents, at a cost of 19 deaths on their own side, and were awarded the victory. It is not clear whom they were fighting: it may have been their traditional enemies Clan Cameron, or it may have been Clan Davidson, in an internal dispute for precedence in the confederation of Clan Chattan.

The 51st (Highland) Division War Memorial is located at the North Inch public park in Perth, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It is dedicated to the soldiers of the 51st (Highland) Division lost in World War II. It was unveiled on 13 May 1995, marking the 50th anniversary of the conclusion of the war.The bronze sculptures depict a Highlander piper being handed a rose from a bunch of flowers held by a young Dutch girl. A bronze dedication plaque is mounted on a tablet on the granite base. Another plaque, listing the regiment's battle honours, is at the rear. By the steps leading up to the memorial is a tablet informing the visitor of the memorial's symbolism. Two bronze relief plaques are on the sides of the base; one is a montage of soldiers in the field, the other depicts a gun, an armoured personnel carrier, a tank, medics treating a wounded soldier, a piper leading two soldiers into battle, a chaplain at a burial service and three lorries at a depot.

The Old Ship Inn is a public house in Perth, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. While the current building is late Victorian, an Old Ship Inn has been on the site since at least 1665. The inn was close to the original Perth mercat cross, which was moved when it was rebuilt. The inn's name references its proximity to Perth's original harbour, which lay at the end of the High Street.Although its address is given as High Street, its entrance on the medieval Skinnergate is more notable.It has been owned by Belhaven Brewery.

The vennels of Perth are a collection of small medieval streets in the city of Perth, Scotland. Similar to York's Snickelways, vennels are a public right-of-way passageway between the gables of buildings which can, in effect, be a minor street. In Scotland, the term originated in royal burghs created in the twelfth century, the word deriving from the Old French word venelle meaning "alley" or "lane". Unlike a tenement entry to private property, known as a "close", a vennel was a public way leading from a typical high street to the open ground beyond the burgage plots. The Latin form is venella, related to the English word "funnel". Perth developed from an initial plan of two parallel streets — High Street and South Street — linked by several vennels leading north and south. The names of these vennels have historic origins, and many — such as Cow Vennel and Fleshers Vennel — reflect the trades associated with their foundation. South Street was originally terminated at its eastern end by Gowrie House (the site of today's Perth Sheriff Court). Upon its demolition in the early 19th century, direct access was granted to the river.In 2018, Perth architect Fergus Purdie put forward a design to revamp a space off of Guard Vennel. If it were to be accepted, it would become a temporary events space. The plan was approved, on a city-wide scale, in March 2019.

2 Tay Street is an historic building in Perth, Scotland. It is Category C listed, dating to around 1875, and stands on Tay Street, near its junction with Bridge Lane, Charlotte Street and West Bridge Street, at the foot of Perth Bridge. The three-storey building is described by Historic Environment Scotland as being constructed of "stugged red ashlar". Its central section is recessed slightly compared to its northern and southern sections, with a single window above the door.

The Royal George Hotel (also known as The Royal George) is a hotel and restaurant in Perth, Scotland. It is a Category B listed building dating to 1773. Its main entrance is on George Street, though its Tay Street frontage, overlooking the River Tay, is more well known. It is named for George III.Notable visitors to the hotel include Empress Eugenie and Queen Victoria, her husband, Albert, Prince Consort, and their children, who stayed there on 29 September, 1848, during their journey south after holidaying at Balmoral Castle. (William Murray, 4th Earl of Mansfield, was out of town and, thus, they were unable to stay at Scone Palace, just under two miles to the north.) It was Victoria's first time staying in a hotel. After breakfast at the hotel the following morning, the family left for Carlisle on the recently built Scottish Central Railway. Then named The George Inn, the business was renamed The Royal George Hotel in her honour. (The street adjacent to the property on its southern side is named George Inn Lane.) Both the Royal Warrant and two lamps from the room the monarch slept in are still in the hotel today. Queen Victoria returned to Perth in 1864 to unveil a statue of her husband, who died three years earlier, at the North Inch.Local architect Donald Alexander Stewart, in partnership with Robert Matthew Mitchell, did some reconstruction work on the hotel in 1927.Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, dined at the hotel in 2003.The hotel has 45 rooms.

Perth City Hall is a civic building in King Edward Street, Perth, Scotland. Built in 1914, it is a Category B listed building.The building served as a music hall before closing in 2005 and being replaced by Perth Concert Hall. Major renovations began in 2018 which included the introduction of a museum in part of the building. It is set to reopen in 2024, and will be the new home to Perth Museum, in which the Stone of Destiny will be one of the items on display.

Perth Museum is a museum which is set to open in March 2024. The museum is to be housed within Perth City Hall and 'will showcase the city’s important collections to tell the tale of Scotland through the prism of Perth,' the former capital of Scotland.The centrepiece of the museum will be the Stone of Destiny.

Perth Concert Hall is an events centre which hosts a programme of concerts, performances and contemporary art in Perth, Scotland.
