Aduard Abbey (Dutch: Abdij van Aduard, Abdij Sint-Bernardus in Aduard) is a former Cistercian abbey in the village of Aduard about 8 kilometres to the north-west of Groningen in the Netherlands, founded in 1192 and dissolved in 1580.

The history of Aduard dates back to the foundation in 1192 of the Cistercian Aduard Abbey, where famous early Humanists like Rodolphus Agricola and Wessel Gansfort studied and lectured. The centre of the village is dominated by the so-called Abdijkerk (abbey church), one of the last visible remains of the erstwhile prestigious monastery. It is suggested that this building, currently in use by the Protestant congregation, was originally the monastery's infirmary. Until 1990, Aduard was a separate municipality.

Fransum (Gronings: Fraansum) is an old church hamlet in the municipality of Westerkwartier, Netherlands. The village in the north-east of the country contains an early 13th century Romanesque church, a farm and a house.The hamlet was first mentioned in 1285 as "Frenchem in Hunesgonia", and probably means "settlement of Frank (person)". The explanation "settlement of the Franks" is unlikely due to the k->s shift. Archaeological excavations have discovered artefacts from the 5th until the 8th century in the terp. Also bodies have been discovered which are older than the 13th century church. The church is currently in use for weddings, expositions and concerts due to the excellent acoustics.From Den Ham a narrow road leads to the wierde, with the last part being unpaved. A dodenweg, or 'death road' runs across the wierde from north to south. From Fransum there used to be church paths to Aduard, Altenaauw, Beswerd and Den Ham. Many of these paths disappeared later, but some have been restored as bike paths. Fransum is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Den Ham. Fransum was home to 166 people in 1840. Nowadays, it consists of three buildings and a dozen farms in the surrounding area.

Den Horn (Dutch pronunciation: [dɛn ˈɦɔrn]; Gronings: Den Hörn) is a small village in the municipality of Westerkwartier in the province of Groningen in the Netherlands. The village is quite isolated in the east of the municipality, just south of the railway line between Groningen and Leeuwarden. As of 2021, it had a population of 710. East of the village used to be the stopping place Den Horn.

It is located east of the city of Groningen, and north of the village of Hoogkerk. The church of Leegkerk, built in the first half of the 13th century, is located here. Unconventionally, the church and surrounding buildings, a former parsonage and sacristy school, are located outside of the village's main core, which is located more eastern and currently grown against the Groningen residential area of Gravenburg.

Hoogkerk is a town in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Groningen, about 4 km west of the city. Hoogkerk was a separate municipality until 1969, when it was merged with the city of Groningen.
