Plaza San Francisco

The Museo San Francisco Cultural Center is a cultural institution located in La Paz city, Bolivia. It was established with the aim of preserving and conserving the arts and memories related to events and historic moments of the city of La Paz in Bolivia, because the history of the convent and the Basilica of San Francisco that houses the museum is closely related to the history of this city.

The Basilica of San Francisco in the city of La Paz, Bolivia, is a Catholic church under the advocation of Francis of Assisi. It is located in the center of the city, in the square that bears its name, Plaza San Francisco. The building was built between 1743 and 1772 but its tower was built in the end of the 19th century.

The Coca Museum (in Spanish, Museo de la Coca) covers the history of the coca plant from the Andean region and related drug cocaine. It is associated with the International Coca Research Institute (ICORI) in La Paz, the government seat in Bolivia. A travelling version of the museum is available.

The National Museum of Art, Palacio Diez de Medina is a museum in the city of La Paz, Bolivia. It has an important permanent collection of colonial paintings, including canvases by Melchor Pérez de Holguín, a painter 16th century and those of Gregorio Gamarra, a 17th-century painter.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of La Paz (Latin: Archidioecesis Pacensis in Bolivia) is an archdiocese located in the city of La Paz in Bolivia.

The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace (Spanish: Catedral Basílica de Nuestra Señora de La Paz), also called La Paz Cathedral, is a cathedral and minor basilica is located in Murillo Square in the city of La Paz in Bolivia. It was built in 1835 with a neoclassical architecture with Baroque elements. It has an interior consisting of five naves with different layers. The first cathedral of La Paz was completed in 1692 after 70 years of construction; the first building was made of stone, lime and brick. In 1831 it was decided to demolish it due to the collapse of its presbytery and several cracks that threatened its collapse. The construction of the current cathedral began on March 24, 1835; it was inaugurated in 1925, marking the first centenary of the founding of the Republic of Bolivia. Although it opened that year, its interior ornamentation still continued until 1932. In 1989, its two lateral towers were opened, this event coinciding with the visit of Pope John Paul II.

The Central Bank of Bolivia (Spanish: Banco Central de Bolivia) is the central bank of Bolivia, responsible for monetary policy and the issuance of banknotes. The current president of the BCB is Pablo Ramos Sánchez.

St Callixtus College (Spanish: Colegio San Calixto), is a private Catholic primary and secondary school, located in La Paz, Bolivia. The school was founded by the Society of Jesus in 1882, at the instigation of Monsignor Calixto Clavijo, and in his honour named for the third century martyr Pope Callixtus I. The school began in the residence of Marshal Andrés de Santa Cruz, now a national monument. The Jesuits began teaching with around 40 students. Over the years other works became associated with the Jesuit college including San Calixto Observatory.Also, the school's Radio Fides was a pioneer in the business, beginning broadcasting in 1939.

The Bolivian Palace of Government, better known as Palacio Quemado (Spanish: [paˈlasjo keˈmaðo], Burnt Palace), was the official residence of the President of Bolivia from 1853 to 2018 and again briefly from 2019 to 2020. It is located in downtown La Paz on Plaza Murillo, next to the La Paz Cathedral and across from the Bolivian legislature. On 9 August 2018, it was replaced by the Casa Grande del Pueblo as the residence of the president by President Evo Morales. The interim government of Jeanine Áñez briefly reverted to occupying the Palacio Quemado from 2019 until 2020 when the newly elected Luis Arce returned to using the Casa Grande. It now serves as a museum. Its nickname originates from the fact that it was set aflame and burned almost to the ground during an uprising in 1875. It has since been rebuilt and redecorated a number of times, but the name stuck.

The Casa Grande del Pueblo (English: Great House of the People), is the Bolivian presidential residence that replaced the Palacio Quemado in 2018. Inaugurated on 9 August 2018 during the presidency of Evo Morales as the official residence of the President of Bolivia, the interim government of Jeanine Áñez reverted to occupying the Palacio Quemado from 2019 to 2020. Following the inauguration of Luis Arce on 8 November 2020, it has again become the residence of the president.

The Ministry of the Presidency is the department of the Government of Bolivia that provides support to the presidential administration by coordinating its political-administrative actions with the different ministries as well as the legislative, judicial, and electoral branches of government in addition to social sectors and cooperatives. Aside from these tasks, the ministry acts as the chief custodian of the government, filing all laws, decrees, and resolutions and publishing them in the Official Gazette of Bolivia.Established on 6 August 1989 by Presidential Decree N° 22292 issued by President Jaime Paz Zamora, the office was previously known as the General Secretariat of the Presidency. The first official under the newly elevated ministry was Gustavo Fernández Saavedra, appointed on the same day.

The Plaza Murillo is the central plaza of the city of La Paz and the open space most connected to the political life of Bolivia. Prominent buildings on the plaza include the Presidential Palace, National Congress of Bolivia, and the Cathedral of La Paz (or more formally, the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, La Paz). It is located in the old town, or Casco Viejo, of the city and is surrounded by Socabaya Street to the west, Ayacucho Street to the east, Comercio Street to the south, and a continuation of Ingavi and Ballivan Streets to the north.
