Castleton Bridge

The Alfred H. Smith Memorial Bridge is a railroad bridge spanning the Hudson River between Castleton-on-Hudson and Selkirk, New York in the United States. The bridge is owned by CSX Transportation and was originally built for the New York Central Railroad, which was subsequently merged into the Penn Central and then Conrail before being acquired by CSX. The bridge forms part of the Castleton Subdivision of CSX. The bridge is named in honor of Alfred Holland Smith, the president of the New York Central Railroad who authorized the construction of this bridge as part of an extensive project known as the Castleton Cut-Off. He died in a horse-riding accident in Central Park in 1924, prior to the completion of the bridge in that same year. He is sometimes confused with Alfred E. Smith, New York's governor at the time. The bridge has been the southernmost rail freight route across the Hudson River since May 8, 1974, after a fire damaged the Poughkeepsie Bridge, 55 miles (89 km) further south. Rail freight traveling between New York City or Long Island and all points south must take a 280-mile (450 km) detour along the Hudson River and across the bridge, a route known as the Selkirk hurdle. The Cross-Harbor Rail Tunnel project has been proposed as a direct route between Long Island and the US mainland, cutting across New York Harbor.

Mull House and Cemetery is a historic home and cemetery located at Coeymans in Albany County, New York. It was built about 1825 and is a rectangular, 2+1⁄2-story timber frame dwelling on a stone foundation in the Federal style. It is topped by a gambrel roof. The cemetery includes approximately 12 extant markers. Also on the property is a barn dated to about 1890.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Schodack Island State Park (formerly known as Castleton Island State Park) is a 1,052-acre (4.26 km2) state park that spans portions of Rensselaer, Greene, and Columbia counties, New York. The park is located between the Hudson River and Schodack Creek, and was opened in 2002.

Schodack Landing Historic District is a national historic district located at Schodack Landing in Rensselaer County, New York. It consists of 86 contributing buildings located in the hamlet of Schodack Landing. The district includes a variety of buildings dated from the 18th through early 20th centuries. They are mostly residential buildings, but include a post office, two churches, a nursing home, a tavern, and a store. There are notable buildings in the Greek Revival and Italianate styles.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The Port of Coeymans is a relatively new marine terminal located about ten miles south of Albany, New York and the Port of Albany-Rensselaer in the town of Coeymans, United States. The port is located on the site of the former Powell & Minnock Brick Company, and is sometimes referred to as the P&M Brick Marine Terminal. The port's large open spaces, as well as access to the Hudson River and New York State Thruway, have led to its use in prefabrication projects, including the Willis Avenue and 145th Street Bridges in New York City. The port owners Carver have invested more than $30 Million to update the facilities. The Port of Coeymans also supported the building of the Tappan Zee Bridge on the Hudson River. Spans of the new bridge were built at the port and floated down the river. The old bridge spans were brought back to the Port, disassembled, reused or recycled.The port built the foundation for Little Island in New York City. The project involves building structures that slide over piers on the waterfront in New York Harbor. The Port is in the running to be named as a production site for the Off-shore wind projects in New York. This is part of the NYS Offshore Wind Master Plan. The port would need $130 Million in additional investment to make it ready to support the off-shore wind projects. The other ports in the running would take approximately twice that. Mammoet has a 660-ton crane on site for offshore wind components.

Tobias Ten Eyck House and Cemeteries is a historic home and cemeteries located at Coeymans in Albany County, New York. It was built about 1758 and is a rectangular, 1+1⁄2-story brick dwelling on a coursed stone foundation. It is topped by a gambrel roof and end wall chimneys. The property includes two burial grounds; one for the Ten Eyck family and another for the family slaves.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Castleton-on-Hudson is a village located in the southwestern part of the town of Schodack in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 1,473 at the 2010 census. The village is southeast of Albany. As of 2019, Castleton-On-Hudson was recognized as a Tree City USA from the Arbor Day Foundation.

Bethlehem House, also known as the Rensselaer Nicoll House, is a historic home located on Dinmore Road in Bethlehem, Albany County, New York. It was originally built about 1735 and expanded in 1796, 1810 (kitchen wing), and 1830 (tea room and office). It is two and one half stories high with two and one story additions in the rear. It is constructed of brick with a gambrel roof and three chimneys. It features a one-story Victorian-era entrance porch.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Vloman Kill is an 18.5-mile-long (29.8 km) tributary to the Hudson River in Albany County, New York, in the United States. Its source is in the town of New Scotland near the village of Voorheesville, and its mouth is at the Hudson River near the hamlet of Cedar Hill, in the town of Bethlehem. The Vloman Kill has a drainage area of approximately 30 square miles (78 km2).

Coeymans Creek is a 7.3-mile-long (11.7 km) tributary of the Hudson River in Albany County, New York in the United States. The creek originates as the continuation of Onesquethaw Creek, which starts near Clarksville, in the Helderberg Mountains.

Ariaanje Coeymans House is a historic home located at Coeymans in Albany County, New York. It was built in c.1690 and has a 2- to 3+1⁄2-story main block with a 1- to 2-story wing. It is constructed of stone and brick and has a gambrel roof. Ariaanje Coeymans (1672–1743) was the heiress of a 17th-century flour and saw milling fortune. Her father, Barent Coeymans, held title to the land patent and died in 1710 intestate. Also on the property are the archaeological remains of mills and outbuildings.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Selkirk is a hamlet in the town of Bethlehem, Albany County, New York, United States. It is located south of the city of Albany and is a suburb of that city. A major freight railyard operated by the Selkirk Subdivision of CSX Transportation is located there; all of the CSX freight traffic going to or from Boston goes through Selkirk on its way to points north, south or west. The route is also used by traffic from New York City via the Alfred H. Smith Memorial Bridge to points west, a detour known as the Selkirk hurdle. Also in Selkirk is Audubon International, a non-profit environmental educational organization. The Dr. John Babcock House, Bethlehem Grange No. 137, and Schoonmaker House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.Selkirk is accessible via the New York State Thruway at Exit 22, a stop that has connecting routes New York State Route 396 and New York State Route 144.
