Holme-on-Spalding-Moor (also known as Holme-upon-Spalding-Moor) is a large village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 7 miles (11 km) north-east of Howden and 5 miles (8 km) south-west of Market Weighton. It lies on the A163 road where it joins the A614 road. In terms of major cities, the village is closest to York which is 15 miles (24 km) away, while Hull is 22 miles (35 km) away. The civil parish is formed by the village of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor and the hamlets of Bursea, Hasholme, Tollingham and Welhambridge. According to the 2011 UK Census, Holme-on-Spalding-Moor parish had a population of 3,172, an increase on the 2001 UK Census figure of 2,948.

Holme Hall is a grade II* listed 18th-century country house in Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was then a Sue Ryder Care Home until its closure in February 2018. The house was built c. 1720–30 to designs of William Wakefield for Lord Langdale, with a chapel added in 1766 by John Carr. It is constructed in two storeys of rendered brick with tile and Westmorland slate roofs, with a 5-bay frontage.

It lies around the A614 road bridge over the River Foulness. It forms part of the civil parish of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor.

Bielby is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The village is situated about 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Pocklington. According to the 2011 UK census, Bielby parish had a population of 258, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 281.About two miles north-east of Bielby, on the edge of Hayton, lie the ruins of an ancient Roman military fortress, an important archaeological site. The University of Durham, Dept of Archaeology, led an excavation between 1995 and 1998 with assistance from local residents and University of Leeds students. A well, a bath-house and many other parts of the Roman fortress have been identified. The name Bielby, spelled Belebi in the Domesday Book, derives from the Old Scandinavian personal name Beli, and means "farmstead or village of a man called Beli." The total rent collected from tenants in Bielby dropped from 1066 to 1086 from £56 to £8. By the 11th century Bielebi (Bielby) had almost 10 residents. One home in Bielby is proudly named Bielbyville. Most homes in Bielby have a name plate sign displayed either on the front exterior wall or in the yard (even though the homes are modest in size). Another House at the end of the village is Manor Cottage where many a farmers worked on land next to the house (although since 2009 been empty). Bielby has an Anglican church (St. Giles), which dates back more than 900 years. The Methodist revival which swept England in the 18th century still has a visible presence in Bielby, although the old Methodist Church building in the village is now a private residence.

Harswell is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Everingham, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) west of Market Weighton town centre, 5 miles (8 km) south of Pocklington town centre, and 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the A614 road. In 1931 the parish had a population of 78. In 1823 Harswell was a village and civil parish in the Wapentake of Harthill. Population at the time was 78, with occupations that included five farmers, and a carrier who operated between the village and Market Weighton once a week. On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Everingham. The village church is dedicated to St Peter. There has been a church in Harswell from the late 12th century and the building that was present in 1823 was described by Baines as "a small ancient structure". It was rebuilt in 1870-1871 and parish records, dating back to 1653, are held by the Borthwick Institute in York. Harswell was served by Everingham railway station on the Selby to Driffield Line between 1853 and 1954. The station house is now a Grade II listed building.

Bursea is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 3 miles (5 km) south of the village of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor and 5 miles (8 km) north-east of the market town of Howden. It lies to the north of the River Foulness. Bursea forms part of the civil parish of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor. The chapel at Bursea is designated a Grade II listed building in August 1987 and is now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England.

Spalding Moor is a moor (in the sense of an area of low lying wetland) in the East Riding of Yorkshire in England. It lies between the River Derwent and the town of Market Weighton at the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. It forms part of the Humberhead Levels, south and east of the Escrick glacial moraine at the southern edge of the Vale of York. The name is recorded in 1172 as Spaldinghemore. The name may refer to a river named Spalding, derived from the Old English spald "ditch or fenland river", which also gave its name to the village of Spaldington. The River Spalding is not recorded, but would be the river now known as the River Foulness. The name may also be derived from the tribe known as the Spalda mentioned in the 7th century Tribal Hidage, which gave rise to the tribe or district known as the Spaldingas, the "dwellers by the Spald". If that explanation is correct, Spald could refer to some other fenland river or rivers. The Spaldingas also gave their name to the town of Spalding in Lincolnshire.As the moor was drained and cultivated, the name fell out of general use, but lives on in the name of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor. The village of Thornton was sometimes distinguished by the suffix "in Spalding Moor". The name of Barmby Moor, until 1935 formally known as Barmby on the Moor, also refers to Spalding Moor.

RAF Holme-on-Spalding Moor, or more simply RAF Holme is a former Royal Air Force station located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The site was built during the Second World War, it was used during the war by the Royal Air Force (RAF) as a bomber station, and after the war as a transport airfield and bomb store before being "mothballed". In the 1950s, the RAF used the station as a training camp before it was transferred to the United States Air Force (USAF) as a reserve station during the Cold War. After USAF use, it became a testing airfield for Blackburn Aircraft and its successor British Aerospace until 1983, when the airfield was closed. Many of the airfield buildings survive as an industrial estate, but most of the runways have been demolished.
