Atlanta Technical College

Atlanta Metropolitan State College is a public college in Atlanta, Georgia. It is part of the University System of Georgia.

Capitol View Manor is a small community in Southwest Atlanta that was named for the excellent view of the Georgia State Capitol building. Its boundaries include I-75/85 to the east, the Beltline to the north, Metropolitan Parkway to the west, and Atlanta Technical College to the south.

Perkerson Park is a 50-acre (200,000 m2) park in the Capitol View/Sylvan Hills neighborhoods of Atlanta, Georgia with everything from a splash pad to an elaborate playground to recreational fields, all under the shady canopy of huge oak trees. Park is open 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM daily.

Georgia's 5th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Georgia. The district was represented by Democrat John Lewis from January 3, 1987 until his death on July 17, 2020. Kwanza Hall was elected to replace Lewis on December 1, 2020 and served until January 3, 2021 when Nikema Williams took his place. Hall was elected in a special election for the balance of Lewis' 17th term. He chose not to run in the general election for a full two-year term, which was won by Williams. The district's boundaries were redrawn following the 2010 census, which granted an additional congressional seat to Georgia. The first election using the new district boundaries (listed below) were the 2012 congressional elections. Based in central Fulton and parts of DeKalb and Clayton counties, the majority black district includes almost three-fourths of Atlanta, the state capital and largest city. It also includes some of the surrounding suburbs, including East Point, Druid Hills, and Forest Park. With a Cook Partisan Voting Index rating of D+32, it is the most Democratic district in Georgia.

Capitol View is a historic in-town southwest Atlanta neighborhood 2.5 miles from downtown Atlanta, Georgia that was named for its view of the Georgia State Capitol building. Its boundaries include Metropolitan Parkway to the east, Lee Street to the west, and the Beltline to the north. On the south, the border follows Arden Street, Deckner Avenue, and Perkerson Park. Capitol View is filled with a housing stock of 1915-1925 of craftsman bungalows as well as earlier Queen Anne houses that precede the planned development of the neighborhood. Several of the Queen Annes on Metropolitan Avenue were built by the Deckner family, for whom Decker Avenue is named. Many of the historic homes are rapidly being renovated as the neighborhood continues to revitalize and attract new residents.

High Point is a neighborhood of Atlanta on the south side of the city, bordered by the BeltLine and the neighborhood of Peoplestown, west of South Atlanta and the Villages at Carver, north of Joyland, and east of Capitol View Manor. It is a small planned community containing newly constructed single-family homes, as well as an apartment community designed for senior citizens.

Sylvan Hills is a historic intown neighborhood in southwest Atlanta, Georgia, United States.Sylva, Latin for “forest”, describes the dense tree canopy that shades the streets and homes of Sylvan Hills.

Crossroads Shopping Center, better known by its name in its heyday, Stewart-Lakewood Center, is an open-air shopping center on Metropolitan Parkway (formerly Stewart Avenue) at Langford Parkway (formerly Lakewood Freeway) in the Sylvan Hills neighborhood of southern Atlanta. It was built in 1962 by the same company and in the same style as Ansley Mall near Midtown Atlanta. It was considered a major regional retail center.Tenants at one time or another included J.C. Penney, Lerner's, Woolworth, Woolco, Warehouse Grocery, Otasco, Colonial Stores grocery (later a Big Star Market), Western Auto, Rhodes Furniture, W.T. Grant, Lee's Men's Shop, Dipper Dan's Ice Cream, Bell Brothers Shoes, the Stewart-Lakewood Fabric Center and a National Shirt Shop.Lubie Geter, one of the children murdered in the Atlanta murders of 1979–1981, was last seen at the Stewart-Lakewood Center.Today part of the original 40+ unit mall has been demolished. A handful of the remaining units are occupied by a dollar store, wig store, and others. In 2005 Atlanta newspaper Creative Loafing named it one of "five undiscovered redevelopment gems".The center was the filming location, representing for the Reseda, California strip mall in home to the Cobra Kai dojo in the hit 2018 Netflix series Cobra Kai, the spin-off of the original 1984 film, The Karate Kid.

The Cellairis Amphitheatre at Lakewood is a concert venue located in Atlanta, which opened in 1989. The amphitheatre seats 18,920 (7,000 seated; 12,000 on the lawn). It was designed to offer a state-of-the-art musical experience for both music fans and artists. The venue was built specifically for popular music.

The Salvation Army Evangeline Booth College, or EBC, is an accredited theological college administered by The Salvation Army. The school is located in Atlanta, Georgia and is named after General Evangeline Booth, the 4th General of The Salvation Army. The Evangeline Booth College follows the Salvation Army's ranking system where there are first-year and second-year cadets. Evangeline Booth College was established for the training of Salvation Army Officers. Enrolled students are referred to as either first-year or second-year cadets. Once a cadet completes two years of training and receives his associate degree (or higher degree if building upon credits from another institution), the cadet is commissioned as a Salvation Army officer with the rank of lieutenant. According to the Evangeline Booth College website, the aim of the college is to "To develop officers possessing such blood and fire spirit that they will be enabled to sustain and advance the interest of The Salvation Army."

Lakewood Fairgrounds, established in 1916 in Lakewood Heights, Atlanta, was built to be the home of the Southeastern Fair. The Lakewood Fairgrounds was located on 117 acres (0.47 km2) of former Creek Indian land, which was situated around a 15-acre (61,000 m2) lake.

On the night of June 12, 2020, Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old African American man, was fatally shot by Atlanta Police Department (APD) officer Garrett Rolfe. APD officer Devin Brosnan was responding to a complaint that Brooks was asleep in a car blocking a Wendy's restaurant drive-through lane. At the scene, Brosnan radioed for assistance, and Rolfe arrived some minutes later. Rolfe conducted a breathalyzer exam which indicated that Brooks' blood-alcohol content was above the legal limit for driving. Rolfe and Brosnan began to handcuff Brooks, and Brooks grabbed Brosnan's taser and attempted to run away. Rolfe pursued Brooks on foot, and Brooks turned and fired the taser toward Rolfe's head. Rolfe then fired his gun three times at Brooks, hitting him twice. A third shot struck an occupied car. By the time Brooks was shot by Rolfe, the taser had fired twice, the maximum times it could be fired. Brooks died after surgery. Footage of the incident, recorded from the officers' bodycams, a witness's phone and the restaurant's security system, was widely broadcast. Police chief Erika Shields resigned one day later; that same day, Rolfe was fired and Brosnan was placed on administrative duty. The Fulton County DA charged Rolfe with felony murder and ten other offenses; Brosnan with aggravated assault and two counts of violation of oath. Fulton County DA Paul L. Howard used video clips from the shooting in his campaign commercials for his unsuccessful 2020 reelection bid. Howard's successor concluded the DA's office could not legally prosecute the politicized charges against Rolfe. On May 5, 2021, the Civil Service Board of the City of Atlanta reinstated Rolfe with back pay, after finding that the City of Atlanta did not afford him his right to due process.In June 2022, Rolfe and Brosnan filed a federal lawsuit alleging that they were attacked by Brooks and had the right to use force to prevent him from “imminent use of unlawful force against them.” On August 23, 2022, prosecutors announced that both officers would no longer face charges, stating "the use of deadly force was objectively reasonable and that they did not act with criminal intent."
