Lakewood Fairgrounds

The Cellairis Amphitheatre at Lakewood is a concert venue located in Atlanta, which opened in 1989. The amphitheatre seats 18,920 (7,000 seated; 12,000 on the lawn). It was designed to offer a state-of-the-art musical experience for both music fans and artists. The venue was built specifically for popular music.

Lakewood Speedway was a race track located south of Atlanta, Georgia, in Lakewood, just north of the eastern arm of Langford Parkway (formerly Lakewood Freeway). The track held many kinds of races between 1919 and 1979, including events sanctioned by AAA/USAC, IMCA, and NASCAR. It was a one-mile (1.6 km) dirt track which was located adjacent to Lakewood Fairgrounds. Lakewood Speedway was considered the "Indianapolis of the South" as it was located in the largest city in the Southern United States and it held an annual race of the Indy cars.

Lakewood Stadium is a 10,000 seat stadium located in the Lakewood Heights neighborhood of southeast Atlanta, Georgia. The stadium is the larger of two stadiums owned and managed by the Atlanta Public Schools system. The other stadium is Eddie S Henderson Stadium, located on the campus of Midtown High School. In October 2006, Lakewood received an Honorable Mention in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as one of the top 10 high school stadiums in the state of Georgia. As chosen by the voters of Atlanta, Lakewood was picked as the 4th best stadium for high school football in the Atlanta metro area. As the largest stadium in the Atlanta Public Schools system, it essentially has been the home field for several future NFL players, including Jamal Lewis and Ahmad Carroll (Douglass), Lawrence Smith (Washington), Kelly Campbell (Mays), David Rocker, Tracy Rocker, and Corey Barlow (Fulton), Greg Favors (Southside), Kelvin Pritchett (Therrell) and Super Bowl XX MVP Richard Dent (Murphy).

Lakewood Heights is a primarily Black (and historically also a Jewish working-class) neighborhood in southeast Atlanta. It is bounded by: the Betmar LaVilla, the Villages at Carver, and South Atlanta neighborhoods on the north, the Chosewood Park neighborhood on the northeast, the Norwood Manor neighborhood on the southeast, the Polar Rock, Swallow Circle/Baywood and Lakewood neighborhoods on the south the Downtown Connector on the west, across which lie the Sylvan Hills and Capitol View Homes neighborhoodsLakewood Heights contains the Lakewood Heights Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Georgia's 5th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Georgia. The district was represented by Democrat John Lewis from January 3, 1987 until his death on July 17, 2020. Kwanza Hall was elected to replace Lewis on December 1, 2020 and served until January 3, 2021 when Nikema Williams took his place. Hall was elected in a special election for the balance of Lewis' 17th term. He chose not to run in the general election for a full two-year term, which was won by Williams. The district's boundaries were redrawn following the 2010 census, which granted an additional congressional seat to Georgia. The first election using the new district boundaries (listed below) were the 2012 congressional elections. Based in central Fulton and parts of DeKalb and Clayton counties, the majority black district includes almost three-fourths of Atlanta, the state capital and largest city. It also includes some of the surrounding suburbs, including East Point, Druid Hills, and Forest Park. With a Cook Partisan Voting Index rating of D+32, it is the most Democratic district in Georgia.

High Point is a neighborhood of Atlanta on the south side of the city, bordered by the BeltLine and the neighborhood of Peoplestown, west of South Atlanta and the Villages at Carver, north of Joyland, and east of Capitol View Manor. It is a small planned community containing newly constructed single-family homes, as well as an apartment community designed for senior citizens.

South Atlanta is an officially defined neighborhood of the city of Atlanta within the city's south side. It is bounded on the northeast by the railroad and the Chosewood Park neighborhood; on the northwest by the railroad and the BeltLine and the Peoplestown neighborhood, on the west by High Point and the Villages at Carver, and on the south mostly by Turman Street and the Lakewood Heights neighborhood.

The Ron Clark Academy is a non-profit middle school, housed in a renovated red brick warehouse located in southeast Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Founded by its namesake, Ron Clark and co-founder Kim Bearden, the school has students in fourth through eighth grades, from a wide range of economic backgrounds. Classes began on September 4, 2007.

The New Schools at Carver (formerly the George Washington Carver Comprehensive High School) is a high school in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It is part of Atlanta Public Schools. Schools include Early College, Technology, Performing Arts, Entrepreneurship, and Health Science and Research.The main building on the campus is Leete Hall (1922) designed by Alexander Hamilton and Henry White Jr. In 1922 this was the campus of Clark University and Gammon College. The colleges moved out of South Atlanta in 1941. The 2021-22 Carver Atlanta football team finished 12-3 and were runners up in the Class 3A state championship game, solidifying them as one of the greatest teams in APS history. They are coached by former Purdue Boilermaker Darren Myles.

Oak Knoll is a section of the Lakewood Heights neighborhood of southeastern Atlanta which received national attention during its construction phase in 1937 for its innovative financing model.Charles Forrest Palmer, who organized the first public housing project in the United States, Techwood Homes, wrote in his autobiographical book, Adventures of a Slum Fighter about a 1937 meeting with President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and Secretary of the Treasury Henry Morgenthau, Jr. At that meeting Mrs. Roosevelt asked about the Oak Knoll project, a subdivision where Palmer and his brother-in-law, Richard Sawtell, were building houses of living room, dining room, kitchen, and two bedrooms to sell for $3,250. The payments of $25.50 a month included taxes and insurance under the government's Federal Housing Administration (FHA) program.The President commented that the payments toward purchase of the homes were materially less than most rents at that time. Roosevelt was delighted that private enterprise could provide good homes at moderate rentals. Upon the President's question as to whether the government's help in slum clearance would interfere with such private projects, Palmer remarked that the public housing program in Britain had helped materially to expand the operations of the Building Societies there. He compared that to the same situation in the US where public housing did not serve as a pace setter, and where housing improvement projects in the private sector had actually contracted despite FHA support.Oak Knoll thus served as an early example of success of FHA-backed housing schemes, but also as a driver to move forward with public housing in national policy. The house at 1099 Oak Knoll Drive was featured in a 1938 issue of Life magazine, as it was a Life "model house"; the model kits were available for purchase from retailers around the country.

Atlanta Metropolitan State College is a public college in Atlanta, Georgia. It is part of the University System of Georgia.

Crossroads Shopping Center, better known by its name in its heyday, Stewart-Lakewood Center, is an open-air shopping center on Metropolitan Parkway (formerly Stewart Avenue) at Langford Parkway (formerly Lakewood Freeway) in the Sylvan Hills neighborhood of southern Atlanta. It was built in 1962 by the same company and in the same style as Ansley Mall near Midtown Atlanta. It was considered a major regional retail center.Tenants at one time or another included J.C. Penney, Lerner's, Woolworth, Woolco, Warehouse Grocery, Otasco, Colonial Stores grocery (later a Big Star Market), Western Auto, Rhodes Furniture, W.T. Grant, Lee's Men's Shop, Dipper Dan's Ice Cream, Bell Brothers Shoes, the Stewart-Lakewood Fabric Center and a National Shirt Shop.Lubie Geter, one of the children murdered in the Atlanta murders of 1979–1981, was last seen at the Stewart-Lakewood Center.Today part of the original 40+ unit mall has been demolished. A handful of the remaining units are occupied by a dollar store, wig store, and others. In 2005 Atlanta newspaper Creative Loafing named it one of "five undiscovered redevelopment gems".The center was the filming location, representing for the Reseda, California strip mall in home to the Cobra Kai dojo in the hit 2018 Netflix series Cobra Kai, the spin-off of the original 1984 film, The Karate Kid.
