Clarkston is a city in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 7,554 as of the 2010 census.The city is noted for its ethnic diversity, and is often referred to as "the most diverse square mile in America" and "the Ellis Island of the South." In the 1990s, refugee resettlement programs identified Clarkston as a good fit for displaced persons of many backgrounds. The rental market was open, residents were moving farther out from the Atlanta urban core, and Clarkston was the last stop on a transit line into the city. At present students attending Clarkston High School come from over 50 countries; the local mosque (Masjid al-Momineen, or Mosque of the Faithful in English) has a diverse and sizable congregation; and over half the population is estimated by some to be foreign born.

James R. Hallford Stadium is a football stadium in Clarkston, Georgia. Until 1999 it was called DeKalb Memorial Stadium. The stadium holds 15,000 spectators and is currently used by two DeKalb County high schools. The stadium is also used by all DeKalb County high school football teams for all home state football playoff games as this is the largest stadium and the only stadium with bleachers on both sides of the field in the DeKalb County School District. The GHSA held football championship games here in 1970, 1972, 1973, 1993, and 1995. On August 2, 1981, the Atlanta Chiefs of the North American Soccer League played a regular season home game against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, drawing 14,437 fans. It was the largest home crowd for the 1979–81 iteration of the Chiefs franchise. There was even talk that they might move there for the following season, but they folded 26 days later after being eliminated from the playoffs. The following year it was the home stadium of Georgia Generals of the American Soccer League, and two decades later the Atlanta Silverbacks of the A-League called it home until they moved to the RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium in 2004.

Perimeter College at Georgia State University is a college of Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. Georgia Perimeter College was originally a public community college founded by an Atlanta area county board of education before merging with Georgia State University in 2016 to create one of the largest universities in the United States with over 50,000 students. The Perimeter College (PC) campuses became components of Georgia State University, still maintaining their own mission, degrees, and admittance requirements, separate from those of the main campus. Before merging with GSU, PC served metro Atlanta with five campus locations and offered more than 40 programs of study, including Arts, Music, Theatre, Nursing, Business Administration, Education, Dental Hygiene, Criminal Justice, and Sign Language Interpreting.

Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC) is a technical college based in Clarkston, Georgia. It is part of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and provides education for a three-county service area, mostly in the metro Atlanta area. The school's service area includes Dekalb, Rockdale, and Newton counties. GPTC is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award associate degrees, diplomas, and technical certificates of credit. Many of the school's individual technical programs are also accredited by their respective accreditation organizations. The College also offers free Adult Education courses for GED and HiSet test preparation and English as Second Language programming. Its Economic Development and Continuing Education division provides customized business and industry training to strengthen the workforce pipeline in Metro Atlanta.

The hospital is situated in a six-story building at the intersection of Interstate 285 and Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker, Georgia, United States, and is staffed by full-time Emory physicians. The hospital, which does not have an emergency department, specializes in inpatient orthopedics and spine operations.

The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts, based in Stone Mountain, Georgia, was a performing arts center supported through the Shakur Family Foundation. The Shakur Center's mission was to provide opportunities for young people through the arts, and offered programs such as drama, dance, and creative writing classes. The organization also ran a Performing Arts Day Camp for youth ages twelve to eighteen. The center, located off Memorial Drive, was named in honor of the late American hip hop artist Tupac Amaru Shakur, and was founded by his mother Afeni Shakur.

It has one island platform with 1 track on each side. This station opened on June 26, 1993. Kensington is mainly a park-and-ride train station for commuters heading into Atlanta. This station serves unincorporated communities such as Stone Mountain, Tucker, and Lithonia, as well as the cities of Decatur, Stonecrest and Clarkston. Transfers to the Emory Cliff Shuttle's Oxford route are also available. Bus Rapid Transit is provided at this station to points along Memorial Drive: 221- Memorial Drive Limited.

In 2021, non-profit American Rivers named DeKalb's South River the 4th most endangered river in the United States, citing "the egregious threat that ongoing sewage pollution poses to clean water and public health."In recent years, some communities in North DeKalb have incorporated, following a trend in other suburban areas around Metro Atlanta. Dunwoody and Brookhaven are now the largest cities entirely contained within the county. DeKalb is the second most Democratic-leaning county in Georgia, only behind Clayton County. 83 percent of the votes cast in the 2020 presidential election were for Joe Biden.

Indian Creek is a train station in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, the eastern terminus of the Blue Line of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. It has an island platform with one track on each side of the platform. This station opened in June 1993. As the eastern terminus for the Blue Line, it primarily serves commuters who take advantage of the free daily parking and ride into the city of Atlanta. Located just outside "The Perimeter" Interstate 285, it mainly serves the City of Lithonia, The newly incorporated City of Stonecrest, as well as communities in: The City of Stone Mountain, and unincorporated communities in: Redan, Stone Mountain and Decatur. Bus service is provided at this station to: The City of Lithonia, The Mall at Stonecrest, Goldsmith Park & Ride, East Dekalb Health Center, Emory-Hillandale Hospital, East Lake Golf Course, Georgia State University, The Beltline and The City of Stone Mountain.
