St Matthew's Church, Wigan

Pemberton Urban District was an urban district from 1894 to 1904, when it was added to the County Borough of Wigan. It included the township of Pemberton along with its constituent villages.

May Mill, Pemberton is a cotton spinning mill in Pemberton, Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. Historically in Lancashire, it was built in 1889. It was taken over by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in the 1930s and passed to Courtaulds in 1962–63 to produce carpet fibre, which it continued to do until its closure on 17 October 1980.

Pemberton railway station serves the Pemberton area of Wigan in Greater Manchester, England. It is on the Kirkby branch line from Wigan Wallgate. The station was opened on 20 November 1848 by the Liverpool and Bury Railway. It on the A571 Billinge Road. The platforms are at the bottom of two ramps (one on each side) which until recently was cobbled on the Kirkby bound platform. Once on the platform, the line underneath the bridge is obscured by overgrown trees. Pemberton is served by major bus routes 1 and 2 operated by Stagecoach Manchester which runs every 10 minutes combined from Wigan town centre.

The area today serves as a predominantly residential suburb along with the adjoining area of Orrell and as a ward has a population of 13,638, increasing to 13,982 at the 2011 Census.Historically a part of Lancashire, Pemberton was formerly a township and parish in the hundred of West Derby. Following the Industrial Revolution, Pemberton became a densely populated industrial district comprising a variety of coal mines, stone-quarries, brick manufactories, and cotton mills. Coal mining was the principal industry of what was described in 1911 as an "unpicturesque, bare and open" area. The former Pemberton Urban District, along with Wigan Municipal Borough to form the County Borough of Wigan in 1904.

Winstanley is an area of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, in Greater Manchester, England. Historically in Lancashire, the area is now a residential suburb, and has a total population of 15,849, reducing at the 2011 census to 11,264.

St John the Divine's Church is in Church Street, Lamberhead Green, Pemberton, Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Wigan, the archdeaconry of Warrington, and the diocese of Liverpool. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. It was a Commissioners' church, having received a grant towards its construction from the Church Building Commission.

PEMBEC High School (Pemberton Business and Enterprise College) was a state school in the Pemberton district of Wigan, Greater Manchester, with Business and Enterprise College status. The school had a "Gifted and Talented" programme that had given it its highest number of pupils with A and A*s at GCSE.PEMBEC was closed in August 2011, and the site is now named 'Central Park'. Run by the Wigan Warriors rugby league club, Central Park offers vocational training and further education programmes for 14- to 19-year-olds. The provision also offers extensive facilities to be used by the local community as well as new headquarters for the club, a sophisticated base for the Warriors' Community and Foundation operations and a Centre of Excellence for the highly reputed Wigan Warriors' Youth Development Programme.

Winstanley Hall is a late 16th-century house in Winstanley, in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, Greater Manchester (grid reference SD54430310). It is listed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade II* listed building. Originally built for the Winstanley family, the building is one of only three Tudor buildings in the Borough.
