Pemberton railway station serves the Pemberton area of Wigan in Greater Manchester, England. It is on the Kirkby branch line from Wigan Wallgate. The station was opened on 20 November 1848 by the Liverpool and Bury Railway. It on the A571 Billinge Road. The platforms are at the bottom of two ramps (one on each side) which until recently was cobbled on the Kirkby bound platform. Once on the platform, the line underneath the bridge is obscured by overgrown trees. Pemberton is served by major bus routes 1 and 2 operated by Stagecoach Manchester which runs every 10 minutes combined from Wigan town centre.

Pemberton is a town and an electoral ward of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, in Greater Manchester, England. It lies on the southwestern bank of the River Douglas, which separates it from the town of Wigan, and east of the M6 motorway. The area today serves as a predominantly residential suburb along with the adjoining area of Orrell and as a ward has a population of 13,638, increasing to 13,982 at the 2011 Census.Historically a part of Lancashire, Pemberton was formerly a township and parish in the hundred of West Derby. Following the Industrial Revolution, Pemberton became a densely populated industrial district comprising a variety of coal mines, stone-quarries, brick manufactories, and cotton mills. Coal mining was the principal industry of what was described in 1911 as an "unpicturesque, bare and open" area. The former Pemberton Urban District, along with Wigan Municipal Borough to form the County Borough of Wigan in 1904.

Run by the Wigan Warriors rugby league club, Central Park offers vocational training and further education programmes for 14- to 19-year-olds. The provision also offers extensive facilities to be used by the local community as well as new headquarters for the club, a sophisticated base for the Warriors' Community and Foundation operations and a Centre of Excellence for the highly reputed Wigan Warriors' Youth Development Programme.
