Barrington United Methodist Church

Barrington Township is one of 29 townships in Cook County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2020 census, its population was 16,514 and it contained 6,172 housing units. The northwestern corner of the Cook County panhandle, it is the county's northwesternmost township. It is also by far the least densely populated township in the county, with less than half the population density of the next least Lemont Township. Barrington Township was named after the town of Great Barrington, Massachusetts.

Barrington Hills is a village located about 40 miles (64 km) northwest of Chicago in the U.S. state of Illinois. Per the 2020 census, the population was 4,114. It straddles approximately 29 square miles (75 km2) over four counties, Cook, Kane, Lake, and McHenry. The Village of Barrington Hills was incorporated in 1957. The suburban village is included in the greater Barrington area. Many very affluent residents live on large estates and commute to downtown Chicago. A minimum 5-acre (2.0 ha) zoning restriction has been in effect on new construction since 1963, but the existence of equestrian farms antedates the village by decades. Farming and horse raising are allowed. Barrington Hills includes farms and estates such as Hill 'N Dale Farms, owned by Richard L. Duchossois, former owner of the Arlington Park racetrack, and the Bank Note Farm. The identification of the area with horses carries over to the names Broncos and Colts for school teams.

The George E. Van Hagen House is a historic house at 12 W. County Line Road in Barrington Hills, Illinois. The house was built circa 1912 for George Ely Van Hagen, the president of the Standard Forgings Company, and his wife Mary Wakefield Lewis Van Hagen, the granddaughter of President William Henry Harrison. Large country estates in rural suburbs such as Barrington Hills were popular with the wealthy in the early twentieth century; Van Hagen used his house's grounds for a gentleman's farm and fox hunting, typical pastimes of estate owners. Architect John Nyden gave the house an Arts and Crafts style design with Federal Revival elements. The house's design uses the simple geometric forms typical of Arts and Crafts designs throughout, with plain cylindrical columns, diamond and rectangular patterned panels, and semicircular arches atop the entrance and several windows. The Federal Revival elements are largely confined to the interior and include a plasterwork dining room ceiling, a mosaic fireplace surround, and cabinets inspired by Palladian windows.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 12, 2016.

The Louis Fredrick House is a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright at 19 W. County Line Road in Barrington, Illinois. The house was built in 1957 for Louis Fredrick, an affluent interior designer. The house's design is typical of Wright's later work, in which he adapted his Usonian design principles to larger homes for wealthier clients. Fredrick played a role in the design process as well, rejecting Wright's original plan on account of its concrete block walls and providing input on decisions such as coloring. The house's design includes a brick exterior, long horizontal window bands, a low roof covered with cedar shakes, and a large chimney.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 12, 2016.Also in 2016 the house was sold through auction to David and Joyce McArdle. The McArdles had previously owned and restored another Frank Lloyd Wright building, the F.B. Henderson House in Elmhurst, Illinois. After acquiring the home, the couple approached John Eifler, of Eifler & Associates, to restore the home, which included adding geothermal heating and cooling, and the construction of furniture that had originally been intended for the home. This restoration was complete by 2018.

Willow Creek Community Church is an Evangelical non-denominational multi-site megachurch based in the northwestern Chicago suburb of South Barrington, Illinois. It was founded on October 12, 1975 by Dave Holmbo and Bill Hybels, who was its longtime senior pastor. Willow Creek has seven locations in the Chicago area, and their Spanish-speaking congregations, Willow Español, at the South Barrington and South Lake in Lincolnshire, campus. In 2018, the church's entire senior leadership and elder board resigned, admitting to having mishandled abuse allegations against Hybels. Steve Gillen, the longtime pastor of the church's North Shore campus, was named interim senior pastor in August 2018. In January 2020, it was announced that Gillen would step down in March and that the two candidates who were being considered for the role of senior pastor had been "released" from the search process. Dave Dummitt became senior pastor in June 2020. According to the ECFA, the church's income was nearly $60 million in 2018, $53.2 million in 2019, and $42 million in 2020.

Poplar Creek Music Theater was a concert venue located in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The amphitheatre opened in 1980 and closed in 1994. It hosted a variety of popular musical acts during its 15-season existence. It consisted of a covered pavilion and grass seating area, and had a capacity of 25,202 people: 7,202 reserved seats and 18,000 lawn seats. Attendance began to dwindle in the late 1980s, and Poplar Creek faced competition from the opening of the World Music Theater (now Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre) in Tinley Park in 1990. Sears acquired the property in 1989 and allowed Poplar Creek to remain in operation until 1994 and demolition began in July 1995.In 2006, the Sears Centre (as of 2020 the Now Arena) opened in Hoffman Estates, near the former location of Poplar Creek. A new outdoor theater located next to the Sears Centre, and about one mile away from Poplar Creek's former location, had been approved for construction. With approximately 10,000 seats, this new venue would only be a fraction of Poplar Creek's capacity. However, the great recession and its aftermath have left the project in an indefinite state of uncertainty.

The Now Arena (originally known as the Sears Centre, Sears Centre Arena and stylized as NOW Arena) is a multi-purpose arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, a northwest suburb 25 miles (40 km) from Chicago, near land which formerly contained the Poplar Creek Music Theater. Since 2016, the arena has been home to the Windy City Bulls, the Chicago Bulls' affiliate in the NBA G League.

The Barrington Historic District is a 92-acre (37 ha) historic district in Barrington, Illinois. The district encompasses a residential area in southwest Barrington and is roughly bounded by the Chicago and Northwestern Railway tracks to the north, Dundee Avenue to the west, E. Hillside and W. Coolidge Streets to the south, and S. Spring and S. Grove Streets to the east. The large majority of the district is in Cook County, but about one square block is in Lake County, Illinois.
