The Bunker was a fringe theatre in Southwark, London, England, from 2016 to 2020.The theatre was a converted underground car park at 53A Southwark Street, London, and had 110 seats. It opened in October 2016, the first production being Skin a Cat.It was awarded "Fringe Theatre of the Year" in The Stage Awards 2020. Productions at The Bunker that were finalists for The Offies, London's Off West End awards, included Cardboard Citizens (2018, Ensemble); Eyes Closed, Ears Covered (2018: Best supporting male in a play, Lighting Design, Most Promising New Playwright); Box Clever (2020, Best Female Performance), Little Miss Burden (2020, Best new play, Best director). In 2020 the theatre won the Offies People’s Vote Winner for Best Programming Policy and People’s Vote Winner for Best Social Media Presence & Activities, and Chris Somex, its artistic director, was given a Special Award "for his ambitious achievements at the theatre".The theatre closed in March 2020 for redevelopment.

The Roman Catholic Church of the Most Precious Blood is a Roman Catholic church on O'Meara Street in Southwark, London, SE1. The church and its adjoining presbytery, forecourt walls and shrine have been listed Grade II on the National Heritage List for England since 2014. The shrine outside the church to Our Lady of Lourdes (or Our Lady of All Nations) was dedicated in 1957. It is made from Sicilian marble and stands in a niche lined with flint from Norfolk. The church serves the Parish of the Most Precious Blood which was established in 1891 by the Bishop of Southwark, John Baptist Butt upon a bequest of £10,000. The church was designed by the architect Frederick Walters and the combined cost of the construction of the church and adjoining presbytery was £7,000.Denis Evinson, in his book Catholic Churches of London, described the interior as "...a joy to enter, warm, welcoming and uncluttered by busy detail".The two bells of the church were made in the Whitechapel Bell Foundry and installed in 1956. The Stations of the Cross that adorn the walls of the interior were made from terracotta by the Swiss artist Matthias Zens.

A Pound of Flesh for 50p, also known as Melting House, was a temporary outdoor sculpture by artist Alex Chinneck, located in London, United Kingdom. Part of the city's Merge Festival, the two-story house sculpture was constructed from 8,000 paraffin wax bricks and it was designed to melt with assistance from a heating apparatus over the course of the installation. It was displayed from September 26 to November 18, 2014, at 40 Southwark Street, SE1 9HP, the structure's roof being gradually lowered as the wax melted. After it had been reduced to "a pile of hardened goo", the sculpture was removed.

London College of Creative Media (LCCM) is a private college of higher education in South London offering undergraduate degrees in music, writing, and music management; a postgraduate degree in creative entrepreneurship; and shorter courses in music performance and production. It was founded in 2002 as the London Centre of Contemporary Music and changed to its present name in 2016. LCCM was also the home of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra from 2012 to 2017.

The Globe Theatre was a theatre in London associated with William Shakespeare. It was built in 1599 by Shakespeare's playing company, the Lord Chamberlain's Men, on land owned by Thomas Brend and inherited by his son, Nicholas Brend, and grandson, Sir Matthew Brend, and was destroyed by fire on 29 June 1613. A second Globe Theatre was built on the same site by June 1614 and stayed open until the outbreak of the First English Civil War, when the Long Parliament closed all London theatres by ordinance dated 6 September 1642.A modern reconstruction of the Globe, named "Shakespeare's Globe", opened in 1997 approximately 750 feet (230 m) from the site of the original theatre.

Gordon Archibald Semple (13 June 1956 – 1 April 2016) was a British Metropolitan Police officer who was murdered by Stefano Brizzi on 1 April 2016.Stefano Brizzi arranged on Grindr to meet Gordon Semple for a chemsex party at his apartment in the Peabody Estate in Southwark, London, where Brizzi strangled Semple to death. He then attempted to dispose of the body but was arrested by police on 7 April.Brizzi went on trial in October 2016. During the trial, he denied committing the murder but admitted to obstructing a coroner in the execution of their duties. On 13 November, he was convicted for both crimes. In December, Brizzi was given a life sentence with a minimum of 24 years.On 5 February 2017, Brizzi committed suicide by hanging at HMP Belmarsh.

Anchor Terrace is a large symmetrical building on the east side of Southwark Bridge Road in London, situated very close to the River Thames. It was built in 1834, and its original inhabitants were senior employees of the nearby Anchor Brewery, Southwark, which was then owned by Barclay Perkins & Co. Ltd. The building was later used as the brewery's offices. It overlooks the site of the former brewery and is next to the headquarters of the Financial Times. It originally comprised eight residences, and above the door to the centre of the building are written the words "Anchor Terrace". Among the original residents were the brewer John Hoy Waterman and Charles Spurrell (1783–1866), a member of the Spurrell family of Thurgarton, Norfolk, who, along with his brother, James Spurrell (1776–1840), was employed at the Anchor Brewery.It was discovered that Anchor Terrace stands on the site of the original Globe Theatre after part of the foundations were found underneath the car park to its rear. However, as Anchor Terrace itself is a grade II listed building, there may never be a full excavation of the site. The BBC television drama series This Life was partly filmed there. The building was converted into luxury flats in the late 1990s.

Cross Bones is a disused post-medieval burial ground on Redcross Way in Southwark, south London. Up to 15,000 people are believed to have been buried there. It was closed in 1853. Cross Bones is thought to have been established originally as an unconsecrated graveyard for prostitutes, or "single women", who were known locally as "Winchester Geese" because they were licensed by the Bishop of Winchester to work within the Liberty of the Clink. The area lay outside the jurisdiction of the City of London and as a consequence became known for its brothels and theatres, as well as bull and bear baiting, activities not permitted within the City itself. By 1769 it had become a pauper's cemetery servicing St. Saviour's parish.

Red Cross Garden is a small park in Southwark, London. It is located on Redcross Way, and named after the street, although the name of the garden is spelt with two words while the street is spelt with one. It is in the London Borough of Southwark. The garden and the associated cottages designed by Elijah Hoole form an early example of one of Octavia Hill’s social housing schemes.

Southwark St Saviour ( (listen) SUDH-ərk) was a civil parish in the metropolitan area of London, England, and part of the ancient Borough of Southwark. It was formed in 1541 from the union of the parishes of St Margaret and St Mary. It was abolished in 1930, however residents of the former parish receive a rebate against local taxation because of the presence of Borough Market. It included the Liberty of the Clink which was a special jurisdiction until 1889.

The Anchor Brewery was a brewery in Park Street, Southwark, London, England. Established in 1616, by the early nineteenth century it was the largest brewery in the world. From 1781 it was operated by Barclay Perkins & Co, who in 1955 merged with the Courage Brewery, which already owned the nearby Anchor Brewhouse. The Park Street brewery was demolished in 1981.

The Rose was an Elizabethan theatre. It was the fourth of the public theatres to be built, after The Theatre (1576), the Curtain (1577), and the theatre at Newington Butts (c. 1580?) – and the first of several playhouses to be situated in Bankside, Southwark, in a liberty outside the jurisdiction of the City of London's civic authorities. Its remains were excavated by archaeologists in 1989 and are listed by Historic England as a Scheduled Monument.
