Oakland Charter Academy

International Boulevard (in Oakland), East 14th Street (in San Leandro), and Mission Boulevard (in Hayward, Union City, and Fremont) are a major road in Alameda County, California. The section now known as International Boulevard was also named East 14th Street until 1996, owing to its position in the East Oakland grid plan; though fully deprecated within the city of Oakland today, this name is still commonly used, especially in casual speech. (East 14th Street is the only correct name in the city of San Leandro to this day.) Mission Boulevard is so named as number 43300 is the location of Mission San José. South of 42nd Avenue and the end of California State Route 77 (CA-77, SR 77, or simply "Highway 77"), the street is signed as CA-185; after the junction with CA-92 (which carries the San Mateo Bridge) in Hayward, it is signed as part of CA-238; between I-680 and I-880, it is signed as the relatively obscure CA-262. The Oakland portion features median strip boarding platforms to accommodate the AC Transit Tempo bus rapid transit line. International Boulevard, East 14th Street, and Mission Boulevard are each among the longest continuously-named streets in the Bay Area individually. The numbers along the International Boulevard are notable in that they are continuous, growing with no large gaps from 102 International Boulevard (at 1st Avenue, one block from Lake Merritt), to 10970 International Boulevard (at the intersection with Durant Avenue on the Oakland/San Leandro border). It is claimed that the section in Oakland was named International Boulevard due to the diversity in ethnic backgrounds among residents and business owners along the route. Fruitvale, a neighborhood of Oakland with a large Hispanic population, is centered on International Boulevard's intersections with Fruitvale and 35th Avenues, and has seen considerable economic growth in recent years. Immediately northwest of Fruitvale are many businesses long owned locally by East and Southeast Asian residents. Much of the rest of International Boulevard bisects predominantly low-income African-American communities. Some portions of International Boulevard have gained a reputation as areas of prostitution, and are part of Oakland's continuing troubles with underage prostitution. An award-winning short film about underage prostitution, International Boulevard: A Documentary, covers the issue of Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC) in Oakland, and on a national level.

Fremont High School is an urban public high school located in East Oakland, California, United States. It was formerly a group of smaller high schools located on the same campus and known as Fremont Federation of High Schools. The school's present configuration is that of the "wall to wall" career academies model, consisting of a 9th Grade House which feeds into one of two California Partnership Academies (CPA), specifically the Architecture Academy and the Media Academy.

Fruitvale (originally Fruit Vale and formerly Brays) is a neighborhood in Oakland, California, United States. It is located approximately 4 miles (6.44 km) southeast of Downtown, and is home to the city's largest Hispanic population, with Hispanics constituting 53.8% of Fruitvale's population. Fruitvale's ZIP code is 94601. It lies at an elevation of 49 feet (15 m). The area got its name from the earlier "Fruit Vale", the fruit tree nursery (mostly apricots and cherries) established there by Henderson Luelling in the mid-19th century. After the 1906 earthquake, the onslaught of refugees from San Francisco caused a population boom, and the unincorporated neighborhood was annexed into the city of Oakland by 1909. The Fruitvale shopping district is located along International Blvd. (formerly East 14th Street until 1995), from Fruitvale Avenue to 38th Avenue, and is one of the major commercial areas of the city. The area is home to many Latino businesses and hosts several annual cultural events, including a Cinco de Mayo parade and a Día De Los Muertos festival, which began in 1996 on International Blvd. The Before the 1970s, the area had the Montgomery Wards West Coast distribution center and retail store located on the downtown Oakland side, roughly opposite East Oakland Hospital, both on East 14th Street. On the San Leandro side, to the south, was the Fruitvale Theater. In between, around 35th Avenue and E 14th St., were the Foodvale Market, a two-story department store, the post office, and a number of other businesses. St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church and Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School are both located one block north of International Blvd.

Melrose is a neighborhood in Oakland in Alameda County, California. It lies at an elevation of 39 feet (12 m).

Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School is a work of the San Francisco New Orleans District of the De La Salle Brothers. Opened in 2018, it is a member of the national Cristo Rey Network of work-study schools for underserved Hispanic Asian American and African American students. The new school occupies the former premises of St. Elizabeth High School in the Fruitvale District of Oakland, California, where the majority of the households are currently Hispanic. The purpose of the school is to provide an affordable, college prep education to needy students in the depressed area of inner-city Oakland, the underserved families of the East Bay. The athletic program of Cristo Rey participates in the CIF North Coast Section as a non-league affiliate.

St. Elizabeth High School was a private, Roman Catholic high school in Oakland, California, established in 1921 by the Franciscan Friars. It was located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Oakland. It closed in 2017 and reopened on August 15, 2018, as Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School.

Fruitvale station is a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station located in the Fruitvale District of Oakland, California, United States. The elevated station has two side platforms.

The Patten Academy of Christian Education (PACE) is a private K-12 Christian school located at 2430 Coolidge Ave. in Oakland, California. It is governed by the Christian Evangelical Churches of America (CECA). PACE was founded in 1944 by Dr. Bebe Patten. In the early 1950s grades seven and eight were added. In 1960, PACE expanded to kindergarten through sixth grade. In 1974, PACE applied to the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) for accreditation, and in 1975, PACE was granted full accreditation for grades K-12. In 1977, continuing to improve its educational services, PACE joined the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). In 1989, PACE began its interscholastic sports program and competes in boys soccer, girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, boys baseball and girls softball as a member of the Bay Area Christian Athletic League. The PACE Bulldogs have produced numerous All-BACAL League players and several Oakland Tribune Athlete of the Week honorees.

Oakland Charter High School is a charter school in Oakland, California serving high school students. It was established in 2007. The school mascot is the matador. It is part of the Amethod Public Schools system and the Oakland Unified School District. In 2010–2011 the school had 121 students. The school has since had, for the 2019–2020 school year, 461 students. The California Department of Education recognized the school as a Title I Academic Achievement Award School. Students scored a 961 on the Academic Performance Index in 2010 and 938 in 2011, results that exceeded those of other Oakland High Schools except American Indian Public High School and ranking among the top high schools in California.The Oakland Charter High School campus has moved from their downtown location to a new one where the Patten University campus is located for the 2017–18 school year.

Patten University is an online college in Oakland, California. It was founded in 1944 by Bebe Patten as a bible college. It went through several stages in its history, variously under the names Oakland Bible Institute, Patten Bible Institute, Patten College, then Patten University. It was long affiliated with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, with candidacy for regional accreditation granted in 1973 and full accreditation circa 1978 to 1980. On February 28, 2020, Patten voluntarily withdrew from accreditation with WASC. In that year it became affiliated with Christian Evangelical Churches of America.

The Ghost Ship warehouse fire was a fire that occurred in a former warehouse in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland, California, that had been converted into an artist collective with living spaces. The fire occurred on December 2, 2016, at approximately 11:20 p.m. PST. At the time, the warehouse was hosting a concert featuring artists from the house music record label 100% Silk. The warehouse was only zoned for industrial purposes and residential and entertainment uses were illegal.Of the 80 to 100 people attending the concert, 36 were killed, making it the deadliest fire in the history of Oakland. It was also the deadliest building fire in the United States since The Station nightclub fire in 2003, the deadliest in California since the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and the deadliest mass-casualty event in Oakland since the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.The Alameda County District Attorney's office launched an investigation into the fire's causes, and in 2017 charged Ghost Ship's master tenant Derick Almena and his assistant Max Harris with felony involuntary manslaughter. In 2018, both pleaded no contest to thirty-six counts of involuntary manslaughter in a plea bargain with prosecutors, but the judge overseeing the case discarded the plea deals and the pair were put on trial, facing up to 36 years in prison. On September 4, 2019, the jury deadlocked 10-2 for conviction on the 36 counts manslaughter charges against Almena, resulting in a mistrial, while Harris was acquitted on all 36 counts. In 2021, Almena pled guilty to the 36 counts of manslaughter and was sentenced to 12 years in prison and released on time served.In July 2020, the City of Oakland settled a civil lawsuit for the victims and agreed to pay a total of $33 million; $9 million to one person who survived with lifelong injuries, and $24 million to the families of the 36 who perished in the fire. In August 2020, Pacific Gas and Electric Company settled a civil lawsuit for 32 of the victims for an undisclosed amount.

Alfred H. Cohen House, also known as the Cohen Bray House, is a residence located in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland, California. The house was originally part of the Peralta land grant, knonw as "Oak Tree Farm." The building was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 19, 1973, and placed on the List of Oakland Designated Landmarks.
