Elk Knob is a mountain in the North Carolina High Country, north of the community of Meat Camp. Its elevation reaches 5,538 feet (1,688 m). The mountain is the headwaters of the North Fork New River and feeder creeks to the South Fork New River (via Meat Camp Creek). The mountain is home to Elk Knob State Park. Elk Knob is partially formed by amphibolites of the Ashe Metamorphic Suite and Alligator Back Metamorphic suite.

Elk Knob State Park is a 4,423-acre (17.90 km2) North Carolina state park in Watauga County, North Carolina, in the United States. Opened in 2003, it is one of North Carolina's newest state parks. Elk Knob State Park was established to preserve the natural state of Elk Knob, the third highest peak in Watauga County. The park is open for year-round recreation and is currently undergoing an expansion of facilities to provide greater recreational opportunities to visitors. Elk Knob State Park is on Meat Camp Road, 5.5 miles (8.9 km) from North Carolina Highway 194, 9.5 miles (15.3 km) north of Boone, in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

John Smith Miller House is a historic home located near Boone, Watauga County, North Carolina. It was built in 1906, and is a two-story, side gable, "L"-plan, chestnut frame I-house. It has a one-story rear ell with side porch. The front facade features a central gabled two-tier porch.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Rich Mountain Bald (variant: Bald of Rich Mountain and Big Bald of Rich) is a mountain in the North Carolina High Country, southeast of the community of Zionville. Its elevation reaches 5,361 feet (1,634 m). The mountain generates several feeder streams to the South Fork New River (via Meat Camp Creek) and Watauga River (via Cove Creek). Rich Mountain Gap separates it with Snake Mountain.

Snake Mountain is a mountain located along the border of North Carolina and Tennessee, east of the community of Zionville, in the southeastern United States. It is part of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and includes parts of Watauga County, North Carolina, and Johnson County, Tennessee. It has two peaks, the higher of which reaches an elevation of 5,564 feet (1,696 m). The lower peak, at 5,518 feet (1,682 m), is Johnson County's high point.The mountain generates several feeder streams to the North Fork New River (via Maine Branch), South Fork New River (via Meat Camp Creek) and Watauga River (via Cove Creek). Several ridges form from Snake Mountain, with the main being Snake Mountain Ridge, mark the border of North Carolina and Tennessee. Also there is Sugartree Ridge and Hessian Ridge, which are smaller outcrops west of Snake Mountain. Several gaps also surround the mountain: Elk Horn Gap, Pottertown Gap, Rich Mountain Gap and State Line Gap.Historically, both the Old Buffalo Trail and Daniel Boone Trail converge at the foot of the mountain, at Zionville.

Howard Knob (variant: Howard's Knob) is a mountain in the North Carolina High Country, located in the town of Boone. According to the US Geological Survey, the mountain's proper name is Howard Knob, but it is known to locals and tourists as Howard's Knob. Howard Knob and the surrounding area are part of the Appalachian Mountain Range. The mountain has an elevation of 4,396 feet (1,340 m) above sea level, and rises nearly 1,000 feet (300 m) above the town of Boone and the campus of Appalachian State University.

Rich Mountain is a mountain located in the North Carolina High Country, roughly 3 miles (4.8 km) northwest of the town of Boone. Its elevation reaches 4,748 feet (1,447 m). The mountain is sometimes confused with Howard Knob, which is to its immediate east; sharing the same ridge to the west is Snakeden Mountain. The summit is private property. The summit of Rich Mountain has year-round temperatures similar to nearby Beech Mountain. While Beech Mountain stands 800 feet (240 m) taller, the unique environment and prevailing winds that channel through a valley just to the North of Rich, bring winter lows that compete with and are occasionally lower than Beech. The summit, and upper north face of Rich Mountain will also receive 50-90% more snow each winter than Boone. 68" of snow was recorded during the 2017/2018 winter which sported 3 different snowfalls through the end of April.The mountain generates several feeder streams to the South Fork New River (via Doe Fork) and the Watauga River (via Laurel Fork).

Elkland School Gymnasium is a historic gym located at Todd, Ashe County, North Carolina. It was built in 1934 by the N.C. Emergency Relief Administration, and consists of a 1 1/2-story, gable-roof center section with a one-story, gable-roofed entrance pavilion. The interior features exposed system of elegant scissor trusses that support the roof structure.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The Todd General Store is located 10 miles south of West Jefferson and 11 miles north of Boone, off Hwy 194, overlooking the South Fork of the New River, and on Railroad Grade Road, one of the most scenic bike routes in North Carolina. The Todd General Store is a contributing property in the Todd Historic District, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. According to Kirk Carrison of Preservation North Carolina, the Todd General Store is one of only five or six authentic general stores remaining in North Carolina. The Todd General Store is the oldest operating store in Ashe County and remains "the gathering place" for local residents where stories of days past are still swapped, relationships are built, and community spirit nourished. Todd General Store suffered heavy damage from a fire that broke out on the evening of February 25, 2021.

The Todd Historic District is a 19-acre (7.7 ha) national historic district located at Todd, Ashe County, North Carolina. It encompasses 24 contributing buildings and one other contributing site in the rural community of Todd. It includes commercial and residential structures, a church, and a hotel. Located in the district is the Todd General Store.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
