St Cuthbert's Church, Redmarshall

The Old Rectory in the village of Redmarshall, County Durham, England, stands to the northeast of St Cuthbert's Church. The rectory, together with its adjoining balustrade, is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade X listed building. The earlier rectory was rebuilt in 1845 at a cost of £1,326 (equivalent to £140,000 in 2021), of which £600 came from Queen Anne's Bounty. It was designed by the Lancaster architect Edmund Sharpe. At that time the rector of St Cuthbert's Church was Revd Thomas Austin, father of Hubert Austin, who was later to join Sharpe's successor, E. G. Paley, in the Lancaster practice. The rectory is constructed in red brick with stone dressings and a slate roof. It has an L-shaped plan, is in three storeys, and is Gothic in style. Above the entrance door is a plaque inscribed "A.D. 1845 EDWDO: MALTBY EPISCPO: THA AUSTIN RECTRE: DOMINE DIRIGE NOS". It has since been divided into a house and two flats.

Redmarshall is a village and civil parish in the borough of Stockton-on-Tees and ceremonial county of County Durham, England. The population as of the 2011 census was 287. Redmarshall is situated to the west of Stockton-on-Tees, just north of the A66 road which is one of the main trunk routes through Teesside. It is home to the Church of Saint Cuthbert and a pub called The Ship. It has a green in the centre and roads such as Church Lane, Coniston Crescent and Windermere Avenue, named after waters in the Lake District. Ferguson Way is the newest addition to the village. A small wood is a short way out of the village and down a bank past Ferguson Way. There is a new housing estate called the langtons being built on the old remains of the mains care home.

Whitton Bridge Pasture is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in the unitary authority of Stockton-on-Tees, England. At 3.18 hectares (7.9 acres) it lies to the south of Whitton village and north west of Stockton-on-Tees. SSSIs are chosen by Natural England, and Whitton Bridge Pasture was designated in 2004 because of its biological interest. It is one of 18 SSSIs in the Cleveland area of search. The biological interest is focused on the species-rich mesotrophic grassland found across the site, which is actively maintained by grazing. The species present are predominantly grasses, although herbs and orchids are also found. The area has been classified as MG5 under the British National Vegetation Classification because of the species composition. The site is small and isolated, and therefore requires careful management to avoid damage caused by activity on neighbouring land.

It was built in 1848–49 to replace an isolated church on a different site which had been dedicated to Thomas à Becket. The Thomas à Becket church is now in ruins and is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. It is also a scheduled monument.Holy Trinity Church was designed by the Lancaster architects Sharpe and Paley at an estimated cost of £600, and could seat 175 people. It measured 68 feet (20.7 m) by 23 feet 6 inches (7.2 m) but by the 1880s it was suffering from decay and damp, and was demolished.It was replaced on the same site in 1886–87 by the present church, dedicated to St James. This church is a Grade II listed building.
