Saint-Georges-sur-l'Aa (French pronunciation: ​[sɛ̃ ʒɔʁʒ syʁ la], literally Saint-Georges on the Aa; Dutch: Sint-Joris-aan-de-Aa) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France.

The Coudekerque-Branche–Fontinettes railway runs along the English Channel and North Sea coast of France from a junction near Coudekerque-Branche station in Dunkirk to a junction near Les Fontinettes station in Calais. It is 41.159 kilometres (25.575 miles) long and AC electrified single track for much of its length, except for the first 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) from Dunkirk which is double track electrified with 25 kV 50 Hz. Line speeds are from 80 km/h (50 mph) to 120 km/h (75 mph). There is a movable bridge over the Aa at Gravelines to allow navigation of the river. The line is used by local trains between Calais and Dunkirk.

Gravelines (, grav-LEEN; French pronunciation: ​[gʁavlin]; Dutch: Grevelingen) is a commune in the Nord department in Northern France. It lies at the mouth of the river Aa 15 miles (24 km) southwest of Dunkirk. It was formed in the 12th century around the mouth of a canal built to connect Saint-Omer with the sea. As it was on the western borders of Spanish territory in Flanders it became heavily fortified, some of which remains. There is a market in the town square (Place Charles Valentin) on Fridays. The "Arsenal" approached from the town square is home to an extensive and carefully displayed art collection. There are modern bronze statues in the grounds. The town is also home to French basketball club BCM Gravelines. The Gravelines Belfry is one of 56 belfries of Belgium and France that is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in recognition of its architecture and importance in the history of municipal power in the region.

The Battle of Gravelines was fought on 13 July 1558 at Gravelines, near Calais, France. It occurred during the twelve-year war between France and Spain (1547–1559). The battle resulted in a victory by the Spanish forces, led by Lamoral, Count of Egmont, over the French, led by Marshal Paul de Thermes. The Spanish were supported by the English Navy, who opened fire on the French as they reached the sand dunes at Gravelines.Following the dominance of the Spanish forces, led by Duke Emmanuel Philibert of Savoy, at the Battle of St. Quentin, Henry II of France prepared his revenge. He recruited a new army in Picardy, which he put in the hands of Louis Gonzaga, Duke of Nevers. He asked the Ottoman Sultan for naval support and encouraged the Scots to invade England from the north. Francis, Duke of Guise, seized the port of Calais from the English and moved to capture the city of Thionville in Philip II's duchy of Luxembourg on 22 June 1558. Marshall de Thermes invaded with another army consisting of 12,000 infantry and 2,000 cavalry, armed with a considerable amount of artillery. After crossing the river Aa at its mouth, de Thermes commandeered his army to conquer both Dunkirk and Nieuwpoort, consequently threatening Brussels. It is reported that a Spanish army was to later intercept the duke's army at the Aa River.

Mardyck (Dutch: Mardijk, West Flemish: Mardyk) is a former commune in the Nord department in northern France. It is an associated commune with Dunkirk since it joined the latter in January 1980.

Jean Bart is the name given to the replica of a 1670, 84-gun, ship-of-the-line, that is being constructed by the Association Tourville at Gravelines, Dunkirk, to the plans of the seventeenth century ship builder Colbert. It has European funding through the Heroes2c programme.

Gravelines Sportica is an indoor sporting arena located in Gravelines, France. The capacity of the arena is 3,500 people. It is currently home to the Basket Club Maritime Gravelines Dunkerque Grand Littoral basketball team.
