WISTA

The Trudelturm (English: "spin tower") is an approximately 20-meter-high former specialist wind tunnel in the Adlershof district of Berlin, Germany. The building, also known as the "Trudelwindkanal" ("spin wind tunnel"), was built by the German Aviation Research Institute (Deutsche Versuchsanstalt für Luftfahrt, DVL) between 1934 and 1936 at the former Berlin-Johannisthal airfield. It stands next to the approximately 130-meter-long Großer Windkanal ("big wind tunnel") from the same period. Both are listed on the Berlin State Monuments List as part of the former DVL site.When it was built, the tower represented a technical innovation that for the first time made it possible to simulate the dangerous condition of aircraft spin in the laboratory. The experiments helped to better understand the complex processes involved in spinning. For example, it was determined how to intercept and regain control of aircraft "lurching" toward the earth without a pilot. A (precisely manufactured) model could be inserted into a vertical (bottom-up) airflow in such a way that it always flew at the height of the observation facility and could be filmed by high-speed cameras. The speed of the airflow could be regulated to match the speed of the model's fall. The internals are no longer in place. The tower currently belongs to the Aerodynamic Park on the Adlershof campus of Humboldt University and is part of the building ensemble of Technical Monuments of Aviation Research in Berlin-Adlershof of the 1930s. The entire site is part of the Adlershof WISTA science and technology park, which has been developed since 1992 on an area of around 420 hectares. Since 2005, a connecting path between Max-Born-Strasse and Brook-Taylor-Strasse has borne the name Zum Trudelturm ("to the Trudelturm").

The Berliner Elektronenspeicherring-Gesellschaft für Synchrotronstrahlung m. b. H. (English: Berlin Electron Storage Ring Society for Synchrotron Radiation), abbreviated BESSY, is a research establishment in the Adlershof district of Berlin. Founded on 5 March 1979, it currently operates one of Germany's 3rd generation synchrotron radiation facilities, BESSY II. Originally part of the Leibniz Association, BESSY now belongs to the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (since 1 January 2009). Owing to the radiometry lab of the PTB [1], BESSY is the European calibration standard for electromagnetic radiation.BESSY supplies synchrotron light and provides support for science and industry. There are institutional long-time users, like the Max-Planck-Society, the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) and the national metrology institute of Germany (the PTB). Furthermore, research groups from other institutes or universities can apply for utilization (so called beam time) for certain projects.

The Aerodynamic Park (German: Aerodynamischer Park) of the Humboldt University in Berlin-Adlershof was once part of the German Johannisthal Air Field. Laboratories, motor test beds, wind tunnels and hangars, erected in the 20s and 30s, are historical landmarks of the Aerodynamic Park today. On the grassy areas of the park is the site-specific sound art "Air Borne" (Stefan Krüskemper with the collaboration of Karlheinz Essl) located, in a loose spatial relation to the monuments of the German Experimental Institute for Aviation and the exceptional university buildings (Architects: Volker Staab with Alfred Nieuwenhuizen, Georg Augustin and Ute Frank, a.o.). The park is the green center of the Campus Berlin-Adlershof.

The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik (FBH) is a research institute, which is a member of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Scientific Community. The institute is located in Berlin at the Wissenschafts- und Wirtschaftsstandort Adlershof (WISTA), its research activity is applied science in the fields of III-V electronics, photonics, integrated quantum technology and III-V technology

The Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung, German for Leibniz Institute for Crystal Growth and abbreviated with IKZ, is a research institute within the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Scientific Community (WGL) and is a member of the Forschungsverbund Berlin (Berlin Research Cooperation). The institute is based in Berlin, Germany at the WISTA Science and Technology Park in the sub-district of Berlin-Adlershof. Its research activities concentrate on basic research on the fields of natural science and materials science.

The Studentendorf Adlershof is a building complex for student accommodation in Berlin which was inaugurated in 2014.

Rundfunk der DDR (German: [ˈʁʊntfʊŋk deːɐ̯ ˌdeːdeːˈʔɛʁ], 'GDR Broadcasting'; from about 1948 to 1972 Deutscher Demokratischer Rundfunk, 'German Democratic Broadcasting') was the collective designation for radio broadcasting organized by the State Broadcasting Committee in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) until German reunification in 1990.

Deutscher Fernsehfunk (DFF; German for "German Television Broadcasting") was the state television broadcaster in the German Democratic Republic (GDR or East Germany) from 1952 to 1991. DFF produced free-to-air terrestrial television programming approved by the ruling Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and broadcast to audiences in East Germany and parts of West Germany. DFF served as the main televised propaganda outlet of the SED with censored political and non-political programmes featuring bias towards the Marxist–Leninist ideology of the Eastern Bloc. DFF was known as Fernsehen der DDR (DDR-FS; "GDR Television" or "Television of [the] GDR") from 1972 until German Reunification in 1990, and DFF assets were replaced by the West German network before it was dissolved on 31 December 1991.

Adlershof is a railway station in the district of Adlershof in Berlin. It is located on the Berlin–Görlitz railway and is served by lines S45, S46, S8, S85, and S9 of the Berlin S-Bahn.

Altglienicke (German pronunciation: [altˈɡliːnɪkə] (listen), literally Old Glienicke) is a locality (Ortsteil) of Berlin in the borought (Bezirk) of Treptow-Köpenick. Until 2001 it was part of the former borough of Treptow.

The Johannisthal Air Field, located 15 km (9.3 mi) southeast of central Berlin, between Johannisthal and Adlershof, was Germany's first commercial airfield. It opened on 26 September 1909, a few weeks after the world's first airfield at Rheims, France.

The Johannisthal air disaster was one of the first multiple-fatality air disasters in history. It involved the Imperial German Navy's L 2 airship manufactured by Luftschiffbau Zeppelin as LZ 18. Its test flight resulted in the death of all 28 passengers and crew on board. On 17 October 1913, at approximately 10:30am local time, hydrogen gas which was being vented was sucked into the forward engine and ignited causing the airship to explode and burn. It crashed near Johannisthal Air Field about 10 miles southeast of Berlin. This accident occurred a little over a month after the Helgoland Island Air Disaster.
