The Washington County Courthouse is the name of a current courthouse and that of a historic one in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the county seat of Washington County. The historic building, built in 1905, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The historic courthouse is the fifth building to serve Washington County, with the prior buildings located on the Historic Square where the Old Post Office is today. The building is one of the prominent historic buildings that compose the Fayetteville skyline, in addition to Old Main. A new building was acquired in 1989 to better serve Washington County's county administration needs. The present-day courthouse is located at the intersection of College Avenue and Dickson Street, just north of historic building. Most county offices are located in the new building, with the historic courthouse serving as a repository for county records.

Fayetteville () is the 2nd most populous city in Arkansas, the county seat of Washington County, and the most populous city in Northwest Arkansas. The city is on the outskirts of the Boston Mountains, deep within the Ozarks. Known as Washington until 1829, the city was named after Fayetteville, Tennessee, from which many of the settlers had come. It was incorporated on November 3, 1836, and was rechartered in 1867. Fayetteville is included in the three-county Northwest Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is ranked 100th in terms of population in the United States with 576,403 in 2022 according to the United States Census Bureau. The city had a population of 99,285 in 2022.Fayetteville is home to the University of Arkansas, the state's flagship university. When classes are in session, thousands of students on campus change up the pace of the city. Thousands of Arkansas Razorbacks alumni and fans travel to Fayetteville to attend football, basketball, and baseball games. The city of Fayetteville is colloquially known as the "Track Capital of the World" due to the success and prestige of the University of Arkansas cross country and track & field programs. The University's men's cross country and track and field programs have won a combined 41 national championships to date with the women's teams adding 5 national championships since 2015.The city is the first in America to be awarded the designation of "Bike City" by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the world governing body of cycling. It was given the title in 2021 due to it not only hosting major UCI cycling events, but also its work in developing cycling through programs and infrastructure. The city hosts the Walmart Shareholders Meetings each year at the Bud Walton Arena.

The Washington County Jail is a historic former civic building at 90 South College Avenue in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Built in 1896, this building was the fourth to serve as county jail, and was in use until 1973, making it the longest tenured in county history. The Romanesque Revival building was designed by W. B. Reese, and is locally unusual and distinctive for its medieval appearance. It is built out of load-bearing stone, square cut and laid in irregular courses, with a rough quarry-cut finish. Most of the building is of darker shades with trim in lighter shades. Nominally two stories in height, the rightmost bay has a square tower with crenellated parapet.The building, which is now in private hands, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The Lynn Shelton American Legion Post No. 27 is a historic clubhouse at 28 South College Avenue in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It is a two-story stone building, designed by local architect T. Ewing Shelton and built in 1939–40. The first floor consists of courses of quarry-faced ashlar stone, while the second consists of rough-cut rubblestone laid in irregular courses. It was built for the local chapter of the American Legion, and sold into private hands in 1994. It now houses office space.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The Ellis Building is a historic commercial building at 208 North Block Avenue in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It is a single-story brick building, with a hip roof that has a rounded top section. The roof's shape is obscured from the front by a low stepped parapet. The front facade has a former garage bay opening to the left, and a pair of plate glass display windows flanking a pedestrian entrance to the right. The building was under construction about 1923, and is one of the oldest surviving automotive service buildings in northwestern Arkansas. It has housed a variety of commercial businesses since ending automotive use about 1955.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.

The Ridge House is a historic house at 230 West Center street in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It is owned by the Washington County Historical Society, and is open for tours by appointment. At the core of this two-story clapboarded house is a log dog trot structure, built c. 1835 and occupied by one of Fayetteville's first doctors. That original structure, still visible in parts of the interior, was repeatedly extended and enlarged to achieve its present appearance as a five-bay house with a projecting central front porch. A 19th-century leanto extends the building to the rear, giving it the profile of a classic New England saltbox, a house type rarely seen in Arkansas. The house was purchased in 1840 by the widow of John Ridge, the Cherokee leader who was assassinated after signing a treaty leading to the Cherokee removal.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

The Meadow Spring Historic District encompasses a predominantly residential area north and west of the traditional center of Fayetteville, Arkansas. It covers an area of 22.5 acres (9.1 ha), and about 11 city blocks, roughly bounded by NW, School, Locust & Church Avenues. between W Dickson and W Mountain Streets. This area was developed beginning in 1870 (after the railroad arrived in the town) and features mainly single-family residences on large level lots. It contains a variety of well preserved housing from the late-19th to the mid-20th century, with both high-style and vernacular forms. Although there are a number of fine Queen Anne Victorians, the predominant styles are those of the early 20th century: Craftsman and a variety of Colonial, Tudor, and other revival styles.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.

The Fayetteville Central Fire Station is a historic fire station at 303 West Center Street in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It is a two-story masonry structure, built out of brick in 1963 to a design by local architect T. Ewing Shelton. Its front facade is divided into seven sections by protruding brick piers of contrasting color, the outermost bays being very narrow. The right four main bays are occupied by equipment bays on the ground floor, and the bay to their left is large, with further subdivision into three on the second floor and fifteen narrow bays on the first. The station is significant as a high-quality local example of Mid-Century Modern design, and for its exemplification of the community's growth in the mid-20th century.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

Fayetteville Female Seminary, established in 1839 by Sophia Sawyer, was a school for girls in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It offered quality education for both white and Cherokee women at a time when women's access to schooling was limited and segregated schooling was common. While the seminary operated only from 1839 to 1862, its legacy is often linked to the decision to establish the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. A historical marker commemorates its history. Walter J. Lemke's drawings of the school and Sawyer were printed in a newspaper.
