Dalby, Lincolnshire

Dexthorpe is a deserted medieval village in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is in the parish of Dalby, and 3.5 miles (5.6 km) north from Spilsby, 1 mile (1.6 km) south-west from Ulceby, and 400 yards (366 m) east from the A16 road. Dexthorpe is listed in the 1086 Domesday Book as part of the Candleshoe Hundred in the South Riding of Lindsey. It held 23 households, 8 villagers, 11 smallholders and 47 freemen, with 16 ploughlands, 2 churches and 80 acres (0.3 km2) of meadow. In 1066 Earl Harold held the Lordship, which in 1086 was granted to Earl Hugh of Chester, who also became Tenant-in-chief. However, by 1577 it had declined and was recorded as having only a pasture, church and parsonage. In 1829, Edmund Oldfield wrote in his book A topographical and historical account of Wainfleet in the Wapentake of Candleshoe in the County of Lincoln, that "the inhabitants of Dexthorpe pay church rates to the incumbent of Well", and that the number of inhabitants in Dalby and Dexthorpe in 1801 were 50, in 1811 there were 71 and by 1821 had risen again to 99. Today the church and village are visible as earthworks.

Partney is a small village and civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Spilsby, and in the Lincolnshire Wolds. The village was the birthplace of Henry Stubbe, the noted 17th-century Intellectual. Partney is at the intersection of the A16 and A158 roads. A village bypass diverts the road to Skegness, Ingoldmells, Chapel St. Leonards and Louth. Public transport is provided by the Stagecoach bus service number 56 which runs from Lincoln to Skegness.

Langton by Spilsby, sometimes called Langton by Partney, is a village and civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated approximately 4 miles (6 km) north from the town of Spilsby, Lincolnshire. The civil parish includes the hamlet of Sutterby. From the 2011 census the population is included in the civil parish of Sausthorpe.

Fordington is a hamlet in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire in England. It is situated within Ulceby with Fordington civil parish.

Sausthorpe is a small village and civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England, 8 miles (13 km) east of Horncastle and 3 miles (4.8 km) north-west of Spilsby. It lies on the southern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds – a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – in the valley of the River Lymn. Farming remains the dominant economic activity in the area. The population was 305 in the 2011 census and estimated at 306 in 2019.

King Edward VI Academy (formerly King Edward VI Humanities College) is a coeducational bi-lateral secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in Spilsby, Lincolnshire, England, for children between the ages of eleven and eighteen. The bi-lateral status is not common, with less than five such schools remaining in England and Wales, but effectively means that any local children who pass the Lincolnshire 11-plus examination and select King Edward VI Academy will receive a grammar school education, but the school also accepts children who have not passed the 11-plus and they will instead receive a separate secondary modern education but under the same roof and from the same teaching staffs and management team. Subject to a child's individual performance, during their time at the school, re-streaming between the bi-lateral poles is possible although rare and offers a borderline or later developing child a chance of achieving a grammar school education. The school is an amalgamation of two separate institutions, the King Edward VI Grammar School opened in 1550 and the Sir John Franklin Secondary Modern School, which opened in 1954. These schools were combined in 1991 as Spilsby High School, initially retaining both sites. The school has provided sixth form education for the over 16s since September 2008, with provision of study for a BTec National Diploma Studies in Business Studies.

The Old Town Hall is a municipal building in the High Street in Spilsby, Lincolnshire, England. The structure, which accommodates some shops and a petrol filling station, is a Grade II listed building.

Spilsby is a market town and civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The town is adjacent to the main A16, 33 miles (53 km) east of Lincoln, 17 miles (27 km) north-east of Boston and 13 miles (21 km) north-west of Skegness. It lies at the southern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds and north of the Fenlands. The town has been a rural market town for more than 700 years. It has changed little in size since the beginning of the 19th century. The town centre includes a range of small supermarkets, banks, traditional newsagents, baker, butchers, jewellers and clothing stores, together with public houses, cafes and fast-food takeaways. At the centre of town is an open square or traditional market place, from which the four main town streets radiate. Markets take place on a Monday. As Spilsby is located within a predominantly agricultural area, much of the market produce consists of locally grown vegetables and meat. The population of the town was 2,336 in the 2001 census, increasing to 3,045 at the 2011 Census.

Spilsby was a rural district in Lincolnshire, parts of Lindsey from 1894 to 1974. It was created by the Local Government Act 1894 from the Spilsby rural sanitary district. Due to growth in other areas, it was reduced three times: in 1896 when Alford was constituted an urban district; in 1925 when the civil parish of Sutton in the Marsh became part of Mablethorpe and Sutton Urban District; and in 1926, when the neighbouring Skegness Urban District was extended. In 1936 a County Review Order enlarged the district when it absorbed the former Sibsey Rural District. It survived until 1974. Under the Local Government Act 1972, it was merged with other districts to form the new East Lindsey district.

Skendleby Priory was a priory in the village of Skendleby, Lincolnshire, England. The believed remains of St James Chapel, Skendleby Priory, were uncovered during archaeological investigations and excavations in 2005. It was a small cell to Bardney Abbey built by Walter de Gant, and recorded by Bede in the seventh century. Bardney Abbey was founded no later than 697, but destroyed by a Danish raid in 869.

Skendleby is a small village and civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated near to the A158 and lies 35 miles (56 km) east from the county town Lincoln, and about 4 miles (6 km) north-east from the town of Spilsby. The village stands near the south-eastern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds.

Spilsby railway station was a railway station in the market town of Spilsby, Lincolnshire, England. The station stood on a four mile long branch line between Spilsby and Firsby Junction, where it connected with the main line from Cleethorpes to London, and was opened on 1 May 1868. However, traffic on the line soon slumped, and the line was bought by the Great Northern Railway in 1890. In 1939 passenger services on the line were suspended, leaving only a goods service which itself ceased in 1958, when the railway station and line were closed.
