Skendleby

Skendleby Priory was a priory in the village of Skendleby, Lincolnshire, England. The believed remains of St James Chapel, Skendleby Priory, were uncovered during archaeological investigations and excavations in 2005. It was a small cell to Bardney Abbey built by Walter de Gant, and recorded by Bede in the seventh century. Bardney Abbey was founded no later than 697, but destroyed by a Danish raid in 869.

Scremby is a village in the civil parish of Ashby with Scremby, in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated about 4 miles (6.4 km) north-east from Spilsby. In 1971 the parish had a population of 57. On 1 April 1987 the parish was abolished and merged with Ashby by Partney to form "Ashby with Scremby". Scremby's red-brick church was built in 1733, and is dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Paul. It is a Grade II* listed building. Scremby Hall was home to the Brackenbury family, although the last resident family member left to live in Wimbledon, Surrey in 1937. It was demolished in the 1970s. Scremby Manor was a 16th-century building with alterations in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. It is Grade II listed. Scremby's C of E school – known as Scremby and Ashby C of E School from 1903 to 1935 – closed in 1960.

Ashby with Scremby is a civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England, with a population of 147 (2001 census), increasing to 179 at the 2011 census. The parish includes the village of Scremby, along with the hamlets of Ashby by Partney and Grebby. Rather than an elected parish council, local democracy is served by a Parish meeting. The parish is bisected by the A158 road from Lincoln to Skegness, and the Bluestone Heath Road (A1020) forms a short part of the North-eastern parish boundary. The South-western boundary is in the valley of the Steeping River.

Ashby by Partney is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Ashby with Scremby, in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated to the south of the A158 road, and 2 miles (3 km) east from the town of Spilsby. It neighbours the village of Partney. In 1961 the parish had a population of 64. On 1 April 1987 the parish was abolished and merged with Scremby to form "Ashby with Scremby". The settlement is recorded in the Domesday Book as consisting of 26 households, with Earl Hugh of Chester as Lord of the Manor. The church, dedicated to Saint Helen, was built of pale orange brick in 1841, on the site of an earlier church. C. Hodgson Fowler restored the interior in 1892, retaining the 14th-century font. It is a Grade II listed building.

Gunby is a hamlet about 1 mile (1.6 km) east from Candlesby. In 1961 the parish had a population of 144.

Candlesby with Gunby is a civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England, about 5 miles (8.0 km) east of the town of Spilsby, and includes the village of Candlesby and hamlet of Gunby, the population of which in 2001 was 178, reducing to 129 at the 2011 Census.

Partney is a small village and civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Spilsby, and in the Lincolnshire Wolds. The village was the birthplace of Henry Stubbe, the noted 17th-century Intellectual. Partney is at the intersection of the A16 and A158 roads. A village bypass diverts the road to Skegness, Ingoldmells, Chapel St. Leonards and Louth. Public transport is provided by the Stagecoach bus service number 56 which runs from Lincoln to Skegness.

Dalby is a village and civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated approximately 3 miles (5 km) north from the town of Spilsby. It is in the civil parish of Sausthorpe. Dalby church is dedicated to Saint Lawrence and Bishop Edward King, and is a Grade II listed building built in 1862 by James Fowler of Louth to replace an earlier church. The font dates from the 14th century. Dalby Hall is a Grade II listed house dating from the 18th century. The original Dalby Hall was destroyed by fire in 1841 and the present Hall was rebuilt nearby in 1856, also by James Fowler. The hamlet of Dexthorpe is considered a deserted medieval village (DMV), first mentioned in 1086, and again in 1334. By 1577 there was just a pasture of two acres, a church, and a parsonage.

Monksthorpe is a hamlet in the district of East Lindsey, Lincolnshire, England. It lies 3 miles (5 km) east from the town of Spilsby and north from the village of Great Steeping . Monksthorpe chapel is a Grade II* listed building dating from 1701, now in the care of the National Trust. In the grounds is a Grade II* listed open air total submersion font, believed to be one of only two in the country.

Dexthorpe is a deserted medieval village in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is in the parish of Dalby, and 3.5 miles (5.6 km) north from Spilsby, 1 mile (1.6 km) south-west from Ulceby, and 400 yards (366 m) east from the A16 road. Dexthorpe is listed in the 1086 Domesday Book as part of the Candleshoe Hundred in the South Riding of Lindsey. It held 23 households, 8 villagers, 11 smallholders and 47 freemen, with 16 ploughlands, 2 churches and 80 acres (0.3 km2) of meadow. In 1066 Earl Harold held the Lordship, which in 1086 was granted to Earl Hugh of Chester, who also became Tenant-in-chief. However, by 1577 it had declined and was recorded as having only a pasture, church and parsonage. In 1829, Edmund Oldfield wrote in his book A topographical and historical account of Wainfleet in the Wapentake of Candleshoe in the County of Lincoln, that "the inhabitants of Dexthorpe pay church rates to the incumbent of Well", and that the number of inhabitants in Dalby and Dexthorpe in 1801 were 50, in 1811 there were 71 and by 1821 had risen again to 99. Today the church and village are visible as earthworks.
