Downs is a hamlet in the Vale of Glamorgan near the county border with the City of Cardiff. It lies just off the A48 road along a road called Grant's Field, just west of Culverhouse Cross and just south of the historical estate of Coedarhydyglyn. The village of St. Nicholas, Vale of Glamorgan lies to the west. The Traherne Arms lies along the main road near the village and, being near the top of The Tumble hill above Culverhouse Cross, has panoramic views of the Welsh capital of Cardiff.

Twyn-yr-Odyn (Welsh: Twynyrodyn) is a hamlet in the Vale of Glamorgan, southeast Wales, just beyond the territorial border of western Cardiff. It lies just southwest of Culverhouse Cross, very close to Wenvoe and St Lythans. The Wenvoe Transmitter is located here. It is home to a pub named the Horse and Jockey Inn. There is an allotment in the vicinity.

St Lythans (Welsh: Llwyneliddon) is an affluent hamlet and former parish in the Vale of Glamorgan, southeast Wales, just outside western Cardiff. It lies southwest of Culverhouse Cross, west of Wenvoe and southwest of Twyn-yr-Odyn and is also connected by road from Dyffryn and the Five Mile Lane in the west. It is one of the wealthiest communities in the Vale of Glamorgan, containing some notable mansions and cottages, valued on average at over £500,000 as of 2011. The megalithic St Lythans burial chamber, over 6000 years old, lies 1 km to the west of the village and the hamlet also contains the St.Lythans Parish Church or Church of St Bleddian, a Grade II* listed building.

Copthorne Hotel Cardiff‍—‌Caerdydd is a four star hotel (formerly five star) in Culverhouse Cross, a western suburb of Cardiff, capital of Wales. The hotel is operated by Millennium & Copthorne. It is located near the Wenvoe transmitting station, off the A4050 road near the Culverhouse Cross roundabout (which intersects with the A48 and the A4232). The hotel has 135 bedrooms and also has a swimming pool, steam room, sauna, whirlpool and gymnasium. It was built in 1993 and has a lake at the front of the hotel which, when built, had a mound built at the front to hide the lake from the view of the road. The hotel was one of the earliest developments to take place at the Culverhouse Cross site as the development boom took off throughout the 1990s. Today the hotel is closely surrounded by retail outlets. The hotel made the news in the early 2000s after two guests had died from Legionnaires' disease, caused by an incorrectly-installed humidifier. The hotel was fined £40,000 on top of £15,000 costs.

Coedarhydyglyn or Coedriglan, formerly Old Coedarhydyglyn (meaning 'the wood along the glen'), is a private Grade I listed neo-classical regency villa and estate on the western rim of Cardiff, less than half a mile from Culverhouse Cross, southeast Wales. It is accessed via the A48 road between Cardiff and St. Nicholas at the top of "The Tumble" hill leading up from Culverhouse Cross and Coedarhydyglyn Lane which leads to Drope to the north. The estate lies between the villages of St Georges-super-Ely (to the northwest) and Downs (to the south) just inside the boundary of the Vale of Glamorgan.

Culverhouse Cross (Welsh: Croes Cwrlwys) is a district straddling the boundary between Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, in the community of Wenvoe. The district is centred on a major traffic roundabout that links West Cardiff to the M4 motorway and is home to a number of different retail outlets, and formerly ITV Wales's headquarters.

Wenvoe (Welsh: Gwenfô) is a village, community and electoral ward between Barry and Cardiff in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. Nearby are the Wenvoe Transmitter near Twyn-yr-Odyn and the site of the former HTV Wales Television Centre at Culverhouse Cross which is now a housing estate. It is home to the Wenvoe Quarry and Wenvoe Castle Golf Club.

Drope is a hamlet in the valley of the River Ely in Vale of Glamorgan, southeast Wales, just beyond the territorial border of western Cardiff. It lies immediately east from Michaelston-super-Ely, west of Ely, Cardiff and southeast of St Georges-super Ely and is accessed via a bridge along Drope Road across the A4232 road to the north of Culverhouse Cross. Drope was designated a special conservation area in March 1973 by the former Glamorgan County Council due to its architectural heritage.

Western Cemetery is a major cemetery located in the western suburb of Ely, Cardiff, Wales. It is located near the Culverhouse Cross roundabout on the A48 road west of the city and provides burial facilities for people of all faiths.

Michaelston-super-Ely is a village, to the west of the city of Cardiff, Wales. Its Welsh name is Llanfihangel-ar-Elai (where llan church + Mihangel Saint Michael + Elai River Ely). It is approximately half a mile from the boundary with the Vale of Glamorgan. To the north lies the village of St Fagans, and to the east the Ely estate. The community of Michaelston-super-Ely was joined with St Fagans in 1968.The historic St Michael's Church was decommissioned in 2010. It is a Grade II* listed building dating from the late 12th or early 13th-century.

The Wenvoe Arms is a village pub in Wenvoe, in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. Dating back to the late 18th century, the pub has been a focal point of the village for many years, and many committee meetings were held here. The pub was bought by S A Brain sometime in the mid 1980s, which was viewed at the time as the final step in the corporatisation of Wales' small rural communities, from its days as a tight-knit farming community, through the population explosion in the 1960s to the present day. A malt house was once located behind the pub.Although the village's population number of a few hundred at the beginning of the 20th century has been vastly augmented, the pub maintains a small and close-knit group of regulars, many of whom have been drinking at the Wenvoe Arms for many years. Every Thursday the pub offers pole dancing and burlesque lessons.

The St Lythans burial chamber (Welsh: Siambr Gladdu Llwyneliddon) is a single stone megalithic dolmen, built around 4,000 BC as part of a chambered long barrow, during the mid Neolithic period, in what is now known as the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It lies about half a mile (1 km) to the west of the hamlet of St Lythans, near Dyffryn Gardens. It also lies around one mile (1.6 km) south of Tinkinswood burial chamber, a more extensive cromlech that it may once have resembled, constructed during the same period. The site is on pasture land, but pedestrian access is allowed and is free, with roadside parking available for 2–3 cars about 50 yards (50 metres) from the site. The dolmen, which has never been fully excavated, is maintained by Cadw, the Welsh Historic Environment Agency.
