Linnyshaw Colliery

Kearsley ( KURZ-lee) is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. The population at the 2011 census was 14,212. Within the Historic County of Lancashire, it lies 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Manchester, 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Bury and 3+3⁄4 miles (6 km) south of Bolton. It is bounded to the west by Walkden, the east by Whitefield, the north by Farnworth and the south by Clifton. Kearsley was a township in the ancient ecclesiastical parish of Deane, in the Hundred of Salford. Kearsley Urban District was a local government authority from 1894 until 1974. In 1933, part of Clifton was added to Kearsley Urban District. Part of Outwood, Radcliffe became part of Kearsley in line with the 1933 Lancashire Review.

Sandhole Colliery (or Bridgewater Colliery) was a coal mine originally owned by the Bridgewater Trustees operating on the Manchester Coalfield in Walkden, Greater Manchester, then in the historic county of Lancashire, England. The colliery closed in 1962.

Linnyshaw is an area of Walkden, a town in the City of Salford district of Greater Manchester, England. Historically within Lancashire, it lies to the east of Walkden, immediately south of junction 2 of the M61 motorway. The area is predominantly moss and there is a very small population. Linnyshaw lies entirely within the Walkden North council ward and within the Worsley parliamentary constituency. It is bordered by Kearsley to the north and Wardley to the east. Between 1865 and 1921 Linnyshaw Colliery was operated by the Bridgewater Trustees.

Wardley Hall is an early medieval manor house and a Grade I listed building in the Wardley area of Worsley, Salford, in Greater Manchester (historically within Lancashire). (grid reference SD757021). There has been a moat on the site since at least 1292. The current hall dates from around 1500 but was extensively rebuilt in the 19th and 20th centuries. The 1894 restoration was carried out by John Douglas. The building is timber framed with a slate roof.The skull of St Ambrose Barlow, one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales, is preserved in a niche at the top of the main staircase. He was hanged, drawn and quartered at Lancaster on 10 September 1641 after confessing to being a Catholic priest. According to legend, it is a screaming skull. The story of it being a screaming skull was told to journalists after it was stolen from Wardley Hall in the 1930s. It worked as the skull was duly returned. It has since been removed occasionally from Wardley Hall by the Bishop of Salford and no unusual or paranormal activities have been reported. Wardley Hall is the official residence of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Salford.

Roe Green is a suburban area of Worsley, in the City of Salford, Greater Manchester, England. Historically in Lancashire, it was anciently a hamlet built around what is now the village green. It is the largest of the City of Salford's conservation areas, selected because of its village green, an unusual feature in the region. Roe Green is adjacent to junction 13 of the M60 motorway.

St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery or Wardley Cemetery is a cemetery in Wardley, a suburban area of the City of Salford, in Greater Manchester, England. It is close to and Swinton, Worsley, and Walkden. It is one of two large cemeteries in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salford. Wardley Hall, a medieval manor house next to the cemetery, is the official residence of the Roman Catholic bishop of Salford.

Worsley () is a village in the City of Salford in Greater Manchester, England, which in 2014 had a population of 10,090. It lies along Worsley Brook, 5.75 miles (9.25 km) west of Manchester. Within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire, there is evidence of Roman and Anglo-Saxon activity, including two Roman roads. The completion in 1761 of the Bridgewater Canal allowed Worsley to expand from a small village of cottage industries to an important town based upon cotton manufacture, iron-working, brick-making and extensive coal mining. Later expansion came after the First and Second World Wars, when large urban estates were built. Worsley Delph is a scheduled monument and a significant part of the town's historic centre is now a conservation area.

Kearsley Academy (formerly George Tomlinson School) is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form with academy status sponsored by Northern Education Trust. It is located in Kearsley in the English county of Greater Manchester. Previously a foundation school administered by Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council, George Tomlinson School converted to academy status in September 2010 and was renamed Kearsley Academy. However the school continues to coordinate with Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council for admissions. The school introduced a sixth form provision in 2012 and relocated to new buildings in 2014.

The school is named after St Ambrose Barlow, one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.The school serves a wide range of parishes including St Charles' RC Primary School in Swinton, St Mark's RC Primary School in Pendlebury, St Mary's RC Primary School in Swinton, St Luke's RC Primary School in Irlams o' th' Height, St Edmund's RC Primary School in Little Hulton and Christ the King RC Primary School in Walkden. St Ambrose Barlow has been accredited with many national awards including National Teaching School status, the School Inclusion Award and Dyslexia Friendly Status. The majority of pupils are baptised Roman Catholic.
