Northborough Manor House

The Deepings (grid reference TF150094) are a series of settlements close to the River Welland near the borders of southern Lincolnshire and north western Cambridgeshire in eastern England. Peterborough is about 8 miles to the south, Spalding about 10 miles to the north east and Stamford about 8 miles to the west. The area is very low-lying, and gave The Deepings their name (a Saxon name translatable as either 'deep places' or 'deep lands'). The villages are mentioned in the Domesday Book. Deeping Fen lies to the North, and the drainage of it was an important part of seventeenth and eighteenth century land reclamation. It is now the responsibility of the Welland and Deepings Internal Drainage Board.

Deeping Gate is a village and civil parish, lying on the River Welland in Cambridgeshire. Traditionally, the area was part of the Soke of Peterborough, geographically considered a part of Northamptonshire; it now falls within the City of Peterborough unitary authority area of Cambridgeshire. With a very small population, void of any major services, including a post office or even a chapel, the community depends on nearby Market Deeping, one and a quarter miles (2.0 km) north of the river in Lincolnshire, for economic and market services. The parish had a population of 258 males and 257 females according to the 2011 Census. Renaissance composer Robert Fayrfax (Fairfax) was a native of the village. Fairfax House, the most prominent and grand property in the village, was home to the Fairfax Family. In the 1870s Wilson described Deeping Gate as:a hamlet in Maxey parish, Northampton; at the boundary with Lincoln, 1 mile SE of Market-Deeping. Real property, £1, 867. Pop., 224. Houses, 47St. Peter's, Maxey, the most northerly ecclesiastical parish in the Diocese of Peterborough, includes Deeping Gate. For local government purposes it forms part of Northborough ward, within North West Cambridgeshire parliamentary constituency. Deeping St James is a large village in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish (including Frognall) was reported as 7,051 at the 2011 census.

Northborough is a small village and civil parish in the Peterborough district, in the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire, England. It has a pub, a shop, a school and a small castle. Northborough is around eight miles north of the city of Peterborough and one mile south of village of Deeping Gate and the Lincolnshire border. The place-name "Northborough" is first attested in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle for the year 656, where it appears as Northburh. In an Assize Roll of 1202 it appears as Norburg. The name means 'northern burg or fortified settlement'.Northborough Manor House is a fortified manor house, largely built by Roger de Norburgh in the early fourteenth century. A short way away is the parish church of St Andrew, of which the original Norman sections date back to the late twelfth century. After the restoration of the monarchy Elizabeth Cromwell, widow of Oliver, lived with John Claypole (her son in law) and is said to be buried in this church. However, there is no grave-stone or marker to be seen.The village underwent its largest change in the 1970s, when it expanded hugely with the building of the new estate, increasing the population of the village. Northborough also has a small primary school, which also takes children from other neighbouring villages, such as Maxey and Peakirk. Until relatively recently, the school was housed in the School House, almost opposite the manor along the Lincoln Road. Then, as the village grew, it moved to a new, larger and better equipped site. The school benefits from a large field and adjoining orchard.

Arthur Mellows Village College is a secondary school in Glinton in the local authority of Peterborough. The college is an academy with a specialism in technology. Olympic gymnast Louis Smith and footballers Luke Steele and Lia Cataldo are amongst the alumni.

The Deepings School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located on Park Road in Deeping St James (near Peterborough) in Lincolnshire, England. As of April 2022, the school is attended by almost 1,500 pupils aged 11 to 18 taught by 90 teaching staff. It includes pupils from Stamford, Spalding, Langtoft, Baston, Bourne and the Deeping area.

Frognall is a small village in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated just north-east of Deeping St James , to which it is almost conjoined, and on the Spalding Road, the B1525, which becomes the A1175 road on its route northwards from The Deepings to Spalding. It is within the civil and ecclesiastical parish of Deeping St James. The village public houses used to be The Goat and the Rose Inn. The Rose Inn closed down in 2013.
