Vila Assunção (meaning Assumption Villa in English) is a neighbourhood (bairro) in the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil. It was created by Law 2022 from December 7, 1959, being located on the bank of Guaíba Lake. Vila Assunção was named after José Joaquim Assunção, who lived here in his chácara (a rural property). When he died, his widow made a deal with the Di Primio Beck company in order to urbanize the region. The neighbourhood is predominantly residential made up of people from the upper middle class and upper class. However, some upscale shops, restaurants and parties have been installed there in the last fifteen years, as well as in the neighbouring Tristeza. The first inhabitants in Vila Assunção were a Tupi people, and that's the reason why there are streets and squares called Timbira, Guaraum, Araguaia, etc. During the 1940s, due to its location on the bank of Guaíba Lake, Vila Assunção attracted many people interested in its beach.

Jardim Isabel is a neighbourhood (bairro) in the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil. It was created by Law 10724 from July 9, 2009, being the newest official neighbourhood in town.It embraces people from upper middle class to upper class. Also, a highly regarded private school of the city, the João Paulo I school, is located in Jardim Isabel.

Cavalhada is a neighbourhood (bairro) in the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil. It was created by Law 2022 from December 7, 1959. The neighbourhood name is quite old, dating from the 18th century, when the government expropriated André Bernardes Rangel's properties in order to have a field for the horse herd (cavalhada) belonging to the Royal Treasury. However, it was transferred to Viamão later, and Rangel became the landowner again. In the 1950s, the Estrada da Cavalhada, nowadays the Carlos Barbosa, Teresópolis, Nonoai e Cavalhada avenues altogether, was finally asphalted.

Hipodromo do Cristal (Cristal Racecourse) is the most important center of horse racing in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It is located at Porto Alegre. It was designed by renowned Uruguayan architect Roman Fresnedo Siri. It is regarded as a remarkable example of modern architecture in South America. Horse races are taking place on Thursday. A major event is the Grande Premio Bento Goncalves (in November).

The Centro Universitário Ritter dos Reis ("Ritter dos Reis University Center" in English), better known as UniRitter, is a university in Brazil, with two campuses in the cities of Canoas and Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul. Through these campuses it serves more than 6,000 students. UniRitter was founded on October 18, 1971, by the educator Romeu Ritter dos Reis. In 2010, it became part of the Laureate International Universities network.

Estádio José Pinheiro Borda, better known as Estádio Beira-Rio or simply Beira-Rio, (Portuguese pronunciation: [esˈtadʒiu ˈbejɾɐ ˈʁiu], Riverside Stadium) due to its location beside the Guaíba River, is a football stadium in Porto Alegre, Brazil. It serves as the home stadium for Sport Club Internacional, replacing their previous stadium, the Estádio dos Eucaliptos. It is named after José Pinheiro Borda (1897–1965), an elderly Portuguese engineer who supervised the building of the stadium but died before seeing its completion. Estádio Beira-Rio was one of the 12 venues used for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, hosting five of the matches in the tournament.

The Gigantinho ("Little Giant" in Portuguese) is a sports arena in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The sixth largest arena in the country, it was opened on 4 November 1973. It is located in the riverside Beira-Rio complex of Sport Club Internacional, next to the "Gigante" ("Giant") stadium. Covering 7,200 square meters, the arena includes an indoor football pitch. The capacity of the gym is 12,864 people for games and 14,586 for concerts. Eleven cabins are set aside for the press. There are thirteen bathrooms (six women, six men and one for the disabled), six changing rooms, and eleven bars. The gym houses the Foundation for Education and Culture of SCI (FECI), where the library is located. The Gigantinho has hosted numerous events and concerts, as well as the World Social Forum and the World Forum on Education.

The Estádio Ildo Meneghetti, familiarly known as Estádio dos Eucaliptos, was a football stadium located in the neighborhood of Menino Deus, in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The stadium was built in 1931 had a maximum seating capacity of 20,000 people. Estádio dos Eucaliptos was owned by Sport Club Internacional. The stadium was nicknamed after Chácara dos Eucaliptos (meaning Eucalyptus' Ranch), the site of the stadium. Its formal name honors Ildo Meneghetti, who was a president of Internacional and an engineer. There are within the stadium football fields made of synthetic turf available for use.

Marinha do Brasil Park is an urban park located in the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It was inaugurated on December 9, 1978, on 70,7 hectares of city-owned land. It is located in Praia de Belas neighbourhood.

Estádio Olímpico Monumental (Monumental Olympic Stadium, in English), also known as Estádio Olímpico de Porto Alegre (Porto Alegre Olympic Stadium) and Estádio Olímpico (Olympic Stadium) until 1980, is a football stadium in the city of Porto Alegre, in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, with a maximum capacity of 45,000 people. The stadium is owned by Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense. Inaugurated on September 19, 1954, the stadium was the home field of the Grêmio football club before being the team moved to Arena do Grêmio in December 2012. Currently, the venue is not in use by the club and suffers from lack of maintenance.

2013 World Masters Athletics Championships is the 20th in a series of World Masters Athletics Outdoor Championships that took place in Porto Alegre, Brazil from 16 to 27 October 2013. The main venue was Centro Estadual de Treinamento Esportivo (CETE), which had a newly laid track. Supplemental venues included Estádio Universitário da PUCRS at Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Sociedade de Ginástica Porto Alegre (SOGIPA). Non-stadia road races were held at Parque Marinha do Brasil and Orla do Guaíba. This Championships was organized by World Masters Athletics (WMA) in coordination with a Local Organising Committee (LOC): Estate of Rio Grande Do Sul, City Hall of Porto Alegre, ABRAM (Brazilian Association of Athletics Master) - Francisco Hypolito da Silveira and Group AUSTRAL - Vinicius Garcia. The WMA is the global governing body of the sport of athletics for athletes 35 years of age or older, setting rules for masters athletics competition. In addition to a full range of track and field events, non-stadia events included 8K Cross Country, 10K Race Walk, 20K Race Walk, Half Marathon and Marathon.

Arroio Dilúvio is a brook (arroio) in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, that flows in areas with high population density. It was or still is known by other names: Riacho Ipiranga (resulting in the name of Ipiranga Avenue), Arroio da Azenha (watermill, resulting in the names of Azenha Avenue and Azenha neighborhood), Riacho or Riachinho and even Arroio do Sabão, this being the current name of the stream that gives it its most distant source.
