Skaidiškės is a village in Vilnius district municipality, Vilnius County, east Lithuania. It is located only about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) east of Vilnius. According to the Lithuanian census of 2021, the town has a population of 4051 people. It is the third largest village in Lithuania.

Liepkalnis Winter Sports Centre is an alpine skiing area in Vilnius, Lithuania. It has 10 lifts and 9 groomed ski runs. All the pistes are lit and equipped with artificial snow making equipment. The centre is based on the highest point in Vilnius, Laimio kalnas, with a maximum altitude of 235.12 metres (771.4 ft) above sea level. The maximum altitude difference on the hill is 65 metres (213 ft).

Church of Christ the King and Infant Jesus (Lithuanian: Kristaus Karaliaus ir Šv. Kūdikėlio Jėzaus bažnyčia) is a Roman Catholic church in Aukštasis Pavilnys, the eastern part of the city of Vilnius, which was completed in 1935.In 2009 the church was inscribed to the Register of Cultural Heritage of Lithuania.

The Battle of Wilno (modern Vilnius, Lithuania) was fought by the Polish Army against the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939, which accompanied the German Invasion of Poland in accordance with Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact.: 82  On 18–19 September, Soviet forces took over the city of Wilno. Polish forces, concentrated in the west, were relatively weak in the east. The Polish commanders, unsure whether to actively oppose the Soviet entry into Poland, did not use the full defensive capabilities of the town and nearby fortifications, although the outcome of the battle would not have been likely any different, given the overwhelming Soviet numerical superiority.

Swiftair Flight 5960 (operating as European Air Transport Leipzig Flight 18D) was an international cargo flight that crashed early in the morning on 25 November 2024 while on final approach to Vilnius Airport. The aircraft, flying from Leipzig/Halle Airport in Leipzig, Germany, to Vilnius Airport in Vilnius, Lithuania, was on approach when it crashed into the ground short of the runway, near a two-story house in Liepkalnis. One crew member was killed and the other three were injured. No one on the ground was injured.

Kurier Wileński (literally: Vilnian Courier) is the main Polish-language newspaper in Lithuania. Printed in Vilnius, it is the only Polish-language daily newspaper published east of Poland. A direct descendant of both the 19th-century newspaper of the same name and the Czerwony Sztandar newspaper, created by the Soviet authorities in 1953 as a means of Sovietization of the Polish diaspora left in the Polish areas annexed by the Soviet Union. The newspaper is a member of the European Association of Daily Newspapers in Minority and Regional Languages (MIDAS). According to TNS Gallup media research, Kurier Wileński 36,800 people or 1.4% of Lithuania's population read at least one issue out of the last six in summer 2008, but that measure dropped to 0.3% in spring 2010.

It is the seat of Juodšiliai eldership and is further subdivided into 4 seniūnaitijos (subelderships). The village is home to Church of Blessed Mykolas Sopočka (built in 2016), post office, dispensary, two high schools and a library.
