Fessenheim Nuclear Power Plant

Sulzbach is a river of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is a right tributary of the Rhine. It passes through Sulzburg and Heitersheim, and flows into the Rhine near Hartheim am Rhein.

Fessenheim (French pronunciation: [fɛsənaim] ; Alsatian: Fassene) is a commune in the Haut-Rhin department in Grand Est in north-eastern France. It is known for: its hydroelectric power plant on the Grand Canal d'Alsace (built 1953–1956, inaugurated 1957); the Fessenheim Nuclear Power Plant next to the Grand Canal d'Alsace, formerly the oldest in service in France since 1977 until it shut down in 2020; a road and pedestrian bridge over the Rhine (210 m long, 7 m wide) to Hartheim in Germany since 2006; the Victor Schœlcher museum, honoring the 19th Century Abolitionist Victor Schœlcher whose father, Marc Schœlcher, was born in Fessenheim.

Bremgarten Airport (ICAO code: EDTG) is a special-use airfield and former military airfield located in the municipalities of Hartheim-Bremgarten and Eschbach in the Breisgau region of Baden-Württemberg. It is used by the Immelmann Sports Flying Group and several companies in the aviation sector. The Breisgau inter-municipal business park was developed on the site of the former military base, and its operating company also maintains the airfield. In 2011, the airfield recorded approximately 45,000 aircraft movements. In 1950, NATO decided to build a base for the French Air Force southwest of Freiburg im Breisgau, in the immediate vicinity of the municipality of Bremgarten. Construction began in 1952. Further north in the Baden Rhine Plain, the Söllingen and Lahr military airfields were being built at the same time. The airfield was named after the then independent municipality of Bremgarten, as the construction management was located there. The buildings were mostly built on land belonging to the municipality of Eschbach, which became a garrison town. The infrastructure was completed by the beginning of 1954. On March 31, the Base aérienne Tactique 136 (BAT.136) relocated from Friedrichshafen Airport to its new base near the Rhine border with France. It initially served as the base for the 4e demi-brigade de chasse, a fighter squadron equipped with the Dassault Ouragan. Later, it flew the Republic F-84 Thunderjet. From 1968 the German Air Force reconnaissance wing Aufklärungsgeschwader 51 used the base.

Heiteren (French pronunciation: [aitəʁən] ) is a commune in the Haut-Rhin department in Grand Est in north-eastern France. The Song "Ballade von Heiteren" performed by Walter Mossmann is dedicated to the resistance against the construction of the Fessenheim Nuclear Power Plant in the 1970s. It describes the organisation of the protests in a roundhouse near Heiteren and the violent repression against the protesters, e.g. by burning down the roundhouse.

Hartheim am Rhein is a town in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district, Baden-Württemberg, Germany with about 5000 inhabitants. The districts of Hartheim am Rhein are Bremgarten, Feldkirch and Hartheim. For the first time, Hartheim am Rhein ist referred to in the Lorsch Codex in 772. In 2012, the name of the town was changed from Hartheim to Hartheim am Rhein.

Chalampé (French pronunciation: [ʃalɑ̃pe] ; German: Eichwald) is a commune in the Haut-Rhin department in Alsace in north-eastern France, just across the river Rhine from Neuenburg, Germany. The town was founded by soldiers of Marshal Dubourg who in 1709 had beaten the Austrians under Count Claude Florimond de Mercy in the War of the Spanish Succession. It is located in an area called Eichwald (oak forest) by the otherwise German-speaking population of the Alsace, and bears its French name since 1735. Before Johann Gottfried Tulla and others straightened the Rhine in the 19th century, the river had changed its course several times, moving the border. Thus, the village was sometimes considered to be part of Germany.

The Klemmbach, a small Black Forest stream, has its source in the southwestern Black Forest near a mountain pass between the summits of Blauen and Belchen. It flows westward through Badenweiler, Müllheim and Neuenburg and empties into the Rhine in Neuenburg am Rhein.
