Acton, Wrexham

Borras Park (Welsh: Parc Borras) is a suburb and electoral ward in the community of Acton, Wrexham, Wrexham County Borough, Wales. The name is derived from the nearby hamlet of Borras. At the time of the 2001 Census, the population was 2,517 in 1,065 household, reducing to a population of 2,359 at the 2011 Census.

Rhosnesni High School, also known as Ysgol Rhosnesni High School or simply Ysgol Rhosnesni, is an English-medium mixed comprehensive secondary school in Rhosnesni, Wrexham, Wales. It was created in 2003 and maintained by Wrexham County Borough Council as a part of their controversial "super schools" plan.

Rhosnesni () is an area and electoral ward in the community of Acton in Wrexham, Wrexham County Borough, Wales. The population of the ward at the 2011 census was 3,683. The settlement developed around the toll gate on Holt Road (the cottage of which still stands) and was expanded in the late 19th century by the addition of estate houses for the Acton Park estate. Following the breakup of the Acton estate in the 20th century much of the local land was bought up by private developers and Rhosnesni became an urban area.Rhosnesni High School is situated in the area. 1st Rhosnesni Scout Group and K2 Explorer Scout Unit meet in the Scout hut which dates from the 1920s.

Pant-yr-Ochain is a historic country house and public house, near Gresford, Wrexham, in North Wales. The Grade II listed building is located in hilly terrain north-east of Wrexham, next to a series of shallow lakes, which also takes its name. There is a locally run miniature railway next to the building. The current building is largely in the neo-Jacobean style, with the building dating to a building on the site from the 1530s–1550s known as Pant Iocyn, around the time it was under the ownership of Edward Almer. It was largely modified in 1805 and 1835 under the Cunliffes ownership, until 1878 when it (again) became part of the Acton Hall estate. From the 1960s to the 1990s it became a hospitality venue, becoming a restaurant, hotel and pub in stages, and a sports bar in the early 1990s. The building is largely now a pub, operated by Brunning & Price since 1994.

The Grove Park School (or simply the Groves School) is a former school building in Wrexham, North Wales, which was home to a school between 1939 and 2003. The site has been derelict since 2003, and was proposed for demolition by Wrexham council, until the Welsh Government listed the building in 2016 following a campaign to preserve it. Various bids have been made to re-develop the site, including becoming part of Coleg Cambria, converted into a new primary school or a Welsh-medium secondary school, a medical training facility, and most recently part of a national gallery. There were initially two schools using the local name Grove Park, a boys and a girls school, based on Grove Park Road and Chester Road respectively, until they were both converted into comprehensive schools, with the former boys school merging to the main existing girls school site, in which it became the Bromfield High School and later Groves High School. The old boys school buildings became part of Coleg Cambria's Yale campus.

Garden Village is a suburb of the city of Wrexham and an electoral division (ward) in the community of Rhosddu in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. The population of the ward at the 2011 census was 2,035 It lies to the west of Chester Road and borders the wards of Stansty to the south and east, Gwersyllt East and South to the north west, Little Acton and Acton to the west, and a small section of Gresford to the north.

Ysgol Morgan Llwyd is a Welsh-medium comprehensive school in Wrexham, in north-east Wales, UK. It is the first, and is the only Welsh-medium secondary school in Wrexham County Borough. It is named after the seventeenth-century preacher and author Morgan Llwyd. The school has been open at its present location in Cefn Road since 2000. Previously it was located on Stockwell Grove. The Headteacher is Ms. Catrin Prichard. There are seven houses or forms into which the approximately 800 pupils are divided. These are Alun, Bers, Clywedog, Dyfrdwy, Erddig, Gwenfro and Hafod. These are named after local rivers and places – the River Alun, Bersham, River Clywedog, River Dee, Erddig and the River Gwenfro. The 2014 Estyn inspection report indicated that forty per cent of pupils came from homes in which Welsh was spoken by one or both parents.

The Wrexham Police Station (Welsh: Gorsaf Heddlu Wrecsam) was a police station housed in a tall brutalist building, located on Bodhyfryd in Wrexham, Wales. Constructed in 1973 and demolished in 2020, the tower was the tallest building in Wrexham, overtaking St Giles' Church. The building served as a North Wales Police divisional headquarters and Wrexham's police station. Concerns over maintenance costs and the overall state of the building were raised in 2011. North Wales Police vacated the building in 2019. It was rejected for listed status by Cadw and in November 2020 was demolished in a controlled explosion, amid a national lockdown. Police officers relocated to Llay HQ and to a smaller station near the Wrexham Library. A Lidl supermarket has been built on the site.

Waterworld (Welsh: Byd Dŵr), formerly the Wrexham Swimming Baths, is a leisure centre in Wrexham, North Wales. Known for its hyperbolic paraboloid roof, the only roof of its type in Wales, the centre houses a set of swimming pools and a gym. The centre was opened in 1967, with a major refurbishment occurring in the 1990s, being re-opened by Elizabeth II in March 1998 under its current name. Due to the difficult and high maintenance costs of the roof, the building was proposed to be demolished before its 1998 refurbishment and again in the 2010s as part of a council reorganisation and cost-saving measure of leisure services in Wrexham County Borough. Under these newer proposals, Waterworld was proposed to be replaced by a new facility somewhere in Wrexham city centre. The plans were abandoned in 2015 due to funding concerns, and the centre was instead transferred to a trust, Freedom Leisure, in 2016 for ten years. Since being transferred to a trust, a petition was launched to reinstate the centre's unofficial mascot, a green inflatable alien. The centre houses multiple pools, a lazy river, water slide, and a bubble pool, as well as a large viewing terrace. It houses a gym, Costa Cafe and spaces for other activities.

The Flash (Welsh: Y Flash or historically Pwll Gwenllian) or Gresford Flash is a lake located near Borras and Gresford, in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. The Flash is an artificial lake which is commonly used for sailing and other recreational pursuits. The lake covers just under 50,000 square metres in an area between Gresford and Borras. Gresford Sailing Club based here, training and racing in small dinghies.

Rhosddu Recreation Ground was a football ground in Wrexham, Wales. It was first mentioned in the local press in September 1879 as the New Recreation Ground, Rhosddu, prior to a game between Civil Service (Wrexham) and Gwersyllt Foresters.It was the home ground of Wrexham between 1881 and 1883. It hosted home games of Wrexham Civil Service, Wrexham Excelsior, Wrexham Albion and Wrexham Victoria to name a few. It was last used for football in 1885.

The Gresford disaster occurred on 22 September 1934 at Gresford Colliery, near Wrexham, when an explosion and underground fire killed 266 men. Gresford is one of Britain's worst coal mining disasters: a controversial inquiry into the disaster did not conclusively identify a cause, though evidence suggested that failures in safety procedures and poor mine management were contributory factors. Further public controversy was caused by the decision to seal the colliery's damaged sections permanently, meaning that only eleven of those who died were recovered.
