Luckenbach School (Gillespie County, Texas)

Luckenbach ( LOO-kin-bahk) is an unincorporated community 13 miles (19 km) from Fredericksburg in southeastern Gillespie County, Texas, United States. Named for Carl Albert Luckenbach, son of the early settler Jacob Luckenbach, the town is known as a venue for country music and for its German-Texan heritage.

Blumenthal is an unincorporated farming and ranching community on the Pedernales River in Gillespie County, in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located halfway between Fredericksburg and Stonewall on U.S. Route 290, near the intersection of Jung Lane. The community was believed to have been settled circa 1900, and reached its peak population of 25 in 1945.Nearby businesses are a bed-and-breakfast concern, and Wildseed Farms.

Grapetown is an unincorporated farming and ranching community 9.5 miles (15.3 km) south of Fredericksburg, situated on South Grape Creek in Gillespie County, in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located on the old Pinta Trail. Grapetown is noted for being the site of the first annual Gillespie County Bundes Schützenfest. The school was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1984, Marker number 10048.

Wildseed Farms is a wildflower farm near Fredericksburg, Texas, United States. It is the largest working wildflower farm in the country. The farm won the Garden Center 2001 Innovator award.

Lower South Grape Creek School is located at 10273 E U.S. Highway 290 in Gillespie County, Texas. In 1960, the school was consolidated with Fredericksburg Independent School District. The building is now used as a community center. The school was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1994, Marker number 10073. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in Texas on May 6, 2005.

Zodiac is a vanished Mormon settlement established in 1847 on the Pedernales River, located 4 miles (6.4 km) southeast of Fredericksburg, in Gillespie County, in the U.S. state of Texas. The area it was located on eventually converted to private acreage, and no trace of the settlement remains today. It was the first Mormon colony established by Lyman Wight in Texas. The second settlement was Mormon Mill in Burnet County in 1851, and his third and final settlement was Mormon Camp in 1854 in Bandera County. In 1936, Zodiac was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, Marker number 10133.

Cain City is a ghost town founded in 1915, 4 miles (6.4 km) southeast of Fredericksburg in Gillespie County, in the U.S. state of Texas. It was established to be a station stop of the Fredericksburg and Northern Railway Company, of which the city's namesake Charlie Cain was a leading fundraiser. The town suffered an economic downturn within a decade of being founded.

Bankersmith (also sometimes written as Banker Smith) is a ghost town in Kendall County, Texas, United States. The town was founded in 1913. It lies approximately halfway between Fredericksburg and Comfort, near the border of Gillespie County.

Meusebach Creek School is located at 515 Kuhlmann Road in Gillespie County, in the U.S. state of Texas. It was consolidated with Fredericksburg Independent School District in 1954. The school is currently being used as a community center and was added to the National Register of Historic Places listings in Gillespie County, Texas on May 10, 2005.Four buildings have served as the school. Erected on land owned by local resident Fritz Lochte, the original structure was a 96 square feet (8.9 m2) shingle-roofed log cabin. In the post-Civil War years, enrollment included students whose parents had been slaves on an area cotton plantation. On the same property, the log cabin was replaced by a larger stone structure in the 1880s. In 1897, local resident Louis Bonn deeded an acre of his land over to the school. A new 1-1/2 story frame structure was erected to house the school. The current building was the fourth building to serve as the school. It was erected in 1931.The school was originally bilingual with reading in both the German and English languages. The state of Texas eventually passed a law requiring all classes but language lessons to be solely in the English language. Tuition paid by the families supported the school and paid for the instructor. State financial education supplements allowed the district to offer free education for two months of the year, but charged tuition for the other months. The 1917 establishment of the local Social and Improvement Club helped provide improvements and furnishings for the school.

Texas Tech University at Fredericksburg is an official off-campus teaching site of Texas Tech University located in Fredericksburg, Texas. The site was established in 2002 to extend Texas Tech's presence by hosting year-round academic programs in the Texas Hill Country.

Fort Martin Scott is a restored United States Army outpost near Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country, United States, that was active from December 5, 1848, until April, 1853. It was part of a line of frontier forts established to protect travelers and settlers within Texas.

Der Stadt Friedhof (the city cemetery) is a pioneer cemetery established in 1846 along Barons Creek on the corner of East Schubert Street and Lee Street, in Fredericksburg, Texas. It is the oldest known cemetery within Fredericksburg and is the final resting place for many of the original German colonists who arrived when John O. Meusebach opened up the area to settlement.
