Marcq-en-Barœul

The canton of Marcq-en-Barœul (French: Canton de Marcq-en-Barœul) was a former French canton, located in the Nord department in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. It had 49,428 inhabitants (2012).

Bondues (French pronunciation: ​[bɔ̃dy]; Dutch: Bonduwe) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. Since 1997, Bondues has housed a Museum devoted to the Resistance of the Nord-Pas de Calais region. The Fort of Bondues, also known as Fort Lobau, was built near the confluence of the Marque and Deûle rivers, by General Séré de Rivières, from 1877 to 1880. It is an element of the chain of forts and fortifications constituting the defence system around Lille. It was the place of execution of 68 members of the resistance in 1943/4.

The Canal de Roubaix is a canal in northern France. It joins the Canal de la Deûle near Marquette-lez-Lille to the Canal de l’Espierres in Belgium at Leers, just east of the former textile manufacturing town Roubaix. It is 20 km long with 12 locks. The Belgian canal continues 8.4 km and three locks beyond the border to the junction with the river Escaut (Scheldt). The canal fell into disuse in 1985 and was going to be infilled for an urban expressway. Instead, the canal was repaired and reopened in September 2009. The first normal operating season, after dredging works on the Belgian canal, was 2011.

Lycée Valentine Labbé is a senior high school/sixth-form college in La Madeleine, Nord, France, in the Lille Metropole. It is two tram stations away from Gare Lille Flandres.The school has a boarding facility.

Wasquehal (traditional pronunciation [wakal]; currently common pronunciation [waskal]) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France.The town originally had a Flemish name; it was written as Waskenhal in the 11th century.

The Marque (French pronunciation: ​[maʁk]; Dutch: Marke) is a 40-kilometre (25 mi) long river in France. It is a right tributary of the Deûle. Its source is near the village of Mons-en-Pévèle. Its course crosses the Nord department, notably the eastern part of the agglomeration of Lille. It flows northwards through the towns of Pont-à-Marcq, Tressin, Villeneuve d'Ascq, Croix and Marcq-en-Barœul, finally flowing into the Deûle in Marquette-lez-Lille. Its lowermost section, between Wasquehal and Marquette-lez-Lille, is part of the Canal de Roubaix.

Mons-en-Barœul (French pronunciation: ​[mɔ̃s ɑ̃ baʁœl]) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France.It is a suburb of the city of Lille, and is adjacent to it on the northeast. The name Mons-en-Barœul means mount in the Barœul, the city is built on a slight hill; the Barœul was a former territory (see also Marcq-en-Barœul). Before the sixteenth century, little is known of this county, which was only rural. Plans of the eighteenth century show Mons-en-Barœul as a small village without a church, with farms scattered along the high road from Lille to Roubaix. It is a former dependency of Fives, a district which is now part of Lille.
