Tyrolean Unterland

The Großer Galtenberg is the highest mountain in the Alpbach valley in the Austrian state of Tyrol and belongs to the Kitzbühel Alps. It is 2,424 m (AA) high, is located at the southern end of the Alpbach valley and may be approached from the Alpbach suburb of Inneralpbach. The Alpbachtal ski region is located opposite the Galtenberg. From the summit there are views of Wildschönau and the Alpbach valley.

At a height of 2,494 m (AA) the Torhelm is one of the highest mountains in the Kitzbühel Alps in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It lies at the head of several side valleys of the Ziller and Brixental valleys. Northwest of the summit is the Hemergrund the head of the Märzengrund, a side valley of the Ziller. The Wilde Krimml stream to the southwest drains via the Krummbach and the Gerlos valley into the Ziller valley, whilst the Lange Grund to the northeast runs via the Kelchsau into the Brixental. One of the neighbouring peaks of the Torhelm is the Kreuzjoch (2,558 m). Many ski tourists visit the Torhelm, especially in the spring, although it is one of the mountains within the Kitzbühel Alps to which the longest ski tours go. Normally it is possible to ski downhill well into the valley on firn until the end of May. In summer the Torhelm is accessible on hiking trails from the Wilder Krimml and the Langer Grund. On the summit of the Torhelm is a large summit cross made of wood that was erected in 1978. On a bronze plaque is the following inscription:"Schlag ein wenn eine Hand sich gibt, denn Vorsicht braucht es nicht. Der Mensch der seine Berge liebt ist immer grad und schlicht" ("Take it when his hand is offered, for you need not be cautious. The man who loves his mountains is always straight and true.") Not far away (on the other side of the Gerlos valley) is another mountain also called the Torhelm, which is a smaller neighbour of the Brandberger Kolm.

The Zillertal Arena is a winter sports area and the largest ski area in the Zillertal valley in Austria. It has 163 kilometres of piste and 50 lifts that can transport 76,000 people every hour. It consists of two parts: one with valley lifts from Zell, Gerlos and Königsleiten and anothern with valley lifts from Ramsau and Hainzenberg. At the start of the 2008/2009 season a second gondola lift was installed in Zell that was extended to the top station of the old Sportbahn Karspitz for the 2010/2011 winter season.

The Wiedersberger Horn is a mountain in the Alpbachtal valley in Austria. Its summit is 2,127 m (AA). The Wiedersberger Horn is accessible from the Alpbachtal via cableways and the mountainsides are used as a skiing area. In winter it may be climbed without difficulty in safe snow conditions. From the top station of the highest lift in the ski area (2,025 m) there is a path to the summit facilitated by step-like wooden beams. On the wooden summit cross is a plaque with the inscription: Dem Herrgott und der Heimat in treuer Einigkeit im Ottober des Heiligen Jahres 1933 errichtet. Katholischer Burschenverein Reith. ("Erected to the Lord God and our country in faithful unity in October of the year of our Lord 1933. Catholic Fellowship of Reith.")

At 2,558 m above sea level (AA) the Kreuzjoch is the highest peak in the Kitzbühel Alps in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The Kreuzjoch also forms the southwestern end of the Kitzbühel Alps. To the west it is bounded by the Ziller valley, to the southeast by the Gerlos valley. The Kreuzjoch's neighbouring peak is the Torhelm (2,494 m).

Stummerberg is a municipality in the Schwaz district in the Austrian state of Tyrol.

The Salzachgeier (2,469 m above sea level (AA)) is a rugged peak on the edge of the Kitzbühel Alps on the border of the Austrian states of Salzburg and Tyrol. In the cirques and high alpine meadows (Hochalmen) of its eastern slopes and the two neighbouring peaks of Fünfmandling (2,401 m) and Schwebenkopf (2,354 m) are the headstreams of the Salzach, the largest river north of the Salzburg Central Alps. The Salzachgeier has a double summit where five sharp ridges run together. The eastern summit is only three metres lower and towers immediately above the aforementioned source regions (the Salzachboden and Schwebenalm). Whilst the southern slopes of the three peaks descend towards the Gerlos Pass, the watershed to the north (the Salzachjoch 1,983 m) is only a kilometre from the eastern cirques. Here on the state border, high over the Roßwildalm, is a mountain chapel, the Markkirchl (St. Mark's Chapel) and somewhat lower down is the New Bamberg Hut run by the German Alpine Club (DAV). To the west, the slopes are just as steep, but less rocky, and drain into the Frommbach stream in the direction of Kitzbühel. The Salzachgeier is part of the touring area for the Bamberg Hut and is a popular ski tour in winter.

The Roßkopf is a mountain in the Austrian state of Tyrol in the Kitzbühel Alps. It is 1,731 metres (5,679 ft) high and lies about 7 kilometres due south of Wörgl. To the northeast an arête descends to the Marchbachjoch or Markbachjoch (1,496 m); another ridge runs northeast to the Kirchköpfl (1,487 m) and a third to the Turmkogel (1,648 m) to the south. The summit of the Roßkopf is the highest in the local area. It is marked by a large summit cross.The summit may be climbed on a number of routes, most of which are designated as "easy", and is also a destination for snowshoe tours.

Gerlos is a municipality with 793 inhabitants (as of Jan. 2019) in Schwaz district of the Austrian state of Tyrol. The village is popular with skiing tourists, mainly families, as there is easy access to Zillertal Arena Centre on Isskogel. The village lies in the Zell am Ziller judicial district. The municipality of Gerlos has seven districts: Au, Gmünd, Innertal, Mitterhof, Oberhof, Ried and Schwarzach.

Aschau im Zillertal is a municipality in the Schwaz district in the Austrian state of Tyrol.

Wildschönau is a municipality within the district of Kufstein in the state of Tyrol 6 km south of Wörgl. The 24 km long high valley near Wörgl is one of the district's tourist centers. Besides a few hamlets, the municipality consists of the four church villages Niederau, Oberau, Auffach and Thierbach and is situated in the Kitzbühel Alps. The municipal office is located in Oberau. Besides two tourist seasons, the intense highland agriculture plays an economic role. A lot of inhabitants commute to their place of work in other municipalities. The municipality Wildschönau is based on "gentle" tourism and emphasizes not being a ski circuit like the nearby Kitzbühel. Several older T-bar lifts in the skiing region of Schatzberg (Auffach) were replaced with two chair lifts. A lift connection with the Alpbach valley was built in Summer 2012. For a long time, there was mining in the Wildschönau.

The Ziller Valley (German: Zillertal) is a valley in Tyrol, Austria that is drained by the Ziller River. It is the widest valley south of the Inn Valley (German: Inntal) and lends its name to the Zillertal Alps, the strongly glaciated section of the Alps in which it lies. The Tux Alps lie to its west, while the lower grass peaks of the Kitzbühel Alps are found to the east. The Ziller Valley is one of the valley areas in Tyrol most visited by tourists. Its largest settlement is Mayrhofen.
