Spains Hall is an Elizabethan country house near Finchingfield in Essex, England. The building has been Grade I listed since 1953.The hall is named after Hervey de Ispania, who held the manor at the time of the Domesday Book in 1086. From then until 2019, the land was continuously owned and occupied by three families – the de Ispania family, the Kempe family, who acquired it when Margery de Ispania married Nicholas Kempe in the early fifteenth century, and the Ruggles family (later the Ruggles-Brise family).

The parish is part of the Panfield, Shalford and The Salings parish cluster.According to the 2001 census it had a population of 179, increasing to 193 at the 2011 Census.There are 31 English Heritage listed buildings in the village, including the Grade I listed Church of St. Peter and St. Paul.

Shalford is a village and civil parish in the Braintree district of Essex, England. The village is approximately 4 miles (6 km) north from Braintree on the B1057 road. The parish includes the hamlets of Church End, Jasper's Green, and Shalford Green. The village has a primary school, a village hall, and a 14th-century pub (The George). At the southern end of the village is Stoneley Park, constructed in 1997 from an infilled sand pit and where trees were planted by local residents. The Tour de France cycle race passed through Shalford on the third and final day of its visit to England, on Monday 7 July 2014, en route from Cambridge to London.

The population of the civil parish at the 2011 Census was 282. It is near the town of Braintree. The hamlet of Blake End was part of the parish. On 1 April 2019 the parish was abolished and merged with Bardfield Saling to form "The Salings".The village had on its green what was reputed to be the largest elm tree in England. With a girth of 22 feet 6 inches and a height of 40 metres, the elm was identified by the botanist R. H. Richens as an Ulmus × hollandica hybrid, before it succumbed to Dutch Elm Disease in the 1970s.The village features the first aerodrome to be built by the Americans in this country. Work on Andrews Field aerodrome https://andrewsfield.com/ was started in July 1942 and built in under a year. List of units using the B-26 Marauder during World War II The aerodrome is named after one of the famous generals of the American air force, Frank M. Andrews. The runways were built with the hardcore that came from the ruins of the London blitz. The parish church is dedicated to St James, and is in the Diocese of Chelmsford. It is Grade II* listed.
