Little Sampford

Great Sampford is a village and civil parish on the junction of the B1053 and B1051 roads in the Uttlesford district, in the north-west of the English county of Essex. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 Census was 586. The village includes a primary school, two places of worship and one public house. It is located three miles to the north-east of the town of Thaxted and eight miles to the south-east of Saffron Walden. It used to have a RAF airfield called RAF Great Sampford. The River Pant runs through the south of the village. It is connected to Hempstead by Howe Lane. The village contains two churches - the Baptist Church, which also owns a small hall adjacent to the property, used by the community for the pre-school; and also a Church of England parish church, St Michael's. Also in the village is a green and cricket club. Next to the green is a playground which includes a skatepark, donated by the National Lottery Fund, a zip wire funded by an Uttlesford District Council Community Grant, a small football pitch and a tennis court.

Spains Hall is an Elizabethan country house near Finchingfield in Essex, England. The building has been Grade I listed since 1953.The hall is named after Hervey de Ispania, who held the manor at the time of the Domesday Book in 1086. From then until 2019, the land was continuously owned and occupied by three families – the de Ispania family, the Kempe family, who acquired it when Margery de Ispania married Nicholas Kempe in the early fifteenth century, and the Ruggles family (later the Ruggles-Brise family).

Hempstead is a village and civil parish in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England. The village is 7 miles (11 km) east from Saffron Walden and 6 miles (10 km) west from Haverhill. Hempstead is situated on the B1054 Saffron Walden to Steeple Bumpstead road. The nearest village is Great Sampford, 1.5 miles (2 km) to the south. The population of the parish at the 2011 census was 451.The village has one church, St. Andrew's, where William Harvey, who discovered the circulation of blood in the human body, and Sir Eliab Harvey, Captain of the Temeraire at the battle of Trafalgar, are interred. The notorious highwayman Dick Turpin, was born in the village public house, where his father was landlord. He was baptised in the village church. Hempstead has a pre-school located in the village hall and a play area on the Glebe which was installed in 2018.

Gibraltar Mill is a grade II listed Tower mill at Great Bardfield, Essex, England which has been converted to residential use.

Bustard Green is a hamlet in the civil parish of Lindsell, and the Uttlesford district of Essex, England, and is just under 1 mile (2 km) north from the village of Lindsell. Bustard Green has a Wild Essex site, which is home to bee orchids and turtle doves.

Duck End Mill, Letch's Mill or Finchingfield Post Mill is a grade II listed Post mill at Finchingfield, Essex, England which has been restored.

West Wood is a 23.6 hectares (58 acres) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Little Sampford, north of Thaxted in northwestern Essex. It is owned and managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust.The site is ancient woodland on chalky boulder clay and sandy loam. It was mainly elm, but this has died and the wood regenerated naturally with ash, and there is also some field maple and hornbeam. Bramble and dog's mercury dominate the ground layer, and there is a rich variety of plants in wetter areas, such as oxlip and meadow-sweet. There are many species of birds and butterflies, and four ponds which have great crested newts, dragonflies and damselflies.There is access by a footpath from the B1051 road between Thaxted and Great Sampford.

Bardfield End Green is a hamlet in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England approximately one mile east of Thaxted. It is the home of Thaxted cricket club.

Cornish Hall End is on the B1057 road three miles north of Finchingfield and 4 miles (6 km) south of Steeple Bumpstead in the Braintree district of Essex, England. The main part of the village is a ribbon development of about 60 houses on either side of the road with many outlying farms, hamlets and individual houses. It is approximately 11 miles (18 km) from Braintree, Great Dunmow and Saffron Walden, and about 7 miles (11 km) from Haverhill in Suffolk. Cornish Hall End is served by a Parish Council which also represents Finchingfield. Its neighbouring villages are Finchingfield, Stambourne, and the Sampfords (Great Sampford and Little Sampford). Near the village at Herkstead Hall Farm is one of the sources of the River Colne, Essex. It was one of the places studied in the Survey of English Dialects. It is also situated in the small region where the flora Oxlip grows.

Royal Air Force Great Sampford or more simply RAF Great Sampford is a former Royal Air Force satellite station located 1.7 miles (2.7 km) west of Great Sampford, Essex, England and 5.3 miles (8.5 km) south east of Saffron Walden, Essex.
