Wirdum (West Frisian: Wurdum) is a village in Leeuwarden municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 1,060 in January 2017.

West Frisia (Latin: Frisia Occidentalis) is a term that, when used in an international context, refers to the traditionally Frisian areas that are located west of the Dollart (i.e. in the present-day Netherlands). Along with East Frisia and North Frisia, it is one of the most commonly used subdivisions of Frisia. In its narrowest sense, the term is synonymous with the province of Friesland. Within the Netherlands, however, it is mostly used to refer to the region of West Friesland, located west of Friesland.

Friesland (, Dutch: [ˈfrislɑnt] (listen); official West Frisian: Fryslân [ˈfrislɔ̃ːn] (listen)), historically and traditionally known as Frisia, named after the Frisians, is a province of the Netherlands located in the country's northern part. It is situated west of Groningen, northwest of Drenthe and Overijssel, north of Flevoland, northeast of North Holland, and south of the Wadden Sea. As of January 2020, the province had a population of 649,944 and a total area of 5,749 km2 (2,220 sq mi). The province is divided into 18 municipalities. The capital and seat of the provincial government is the city of Leeuwarden (West Frisian: Ljouwert, Liwwaddes: Liwwadde), a city with 123,107 inhabitants. Other large municipalities in Friesland are Sneek (pop. 33,512), Heerenveen (pop. 50,257), and Smallingerland (includes town of Drachten, pop. 55,938). Since 2017, Arno Brok is the King's Commissioner in the province. A coalition of the Christian Democratic Appeal, the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy, the Labour Party, and the Frisian National Party forms the executive branch. The area of the province was once part of the ancient, larger region of Frisia. The land is mostly made up of grassland and it has numerous lakes. The official languages of Friesland are West Frisian and Dutch. It was named after the region of Frisia.

Eagum (Dutch: Aegum) is a small village in the Dutch province of Friesland. It is in the municipality of Leeuwarden, about 10 km south of the city of Leeuwarden. Eagum had about 35 inhabitants (in January 2017),

De Hempenserpoldermolen is a smock mill in Wergea, Friesland, Netherlands which was built in 1863 and has been restored to working order. It is listed as a Rijksmonument.

The Protestant church of Goutum or Saint Agnes church is a medieval religious building in Goutum, Friesland, Netherlands. On the north side remnants of an older tufa church from the 11th century or 12th century can be seen.The church was enlarged and heightened with brick in the 15th century and has a tower from the same century. The church was originally a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Agnes, becoming a Protestant church after the Protestant Reformation. It is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 24509. The building is located at 23 Buorren.

Goutum is a village in the municipality Leeuwarden in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 2,945 in January 2017. It is still an independent village, but is surrounded by the city of Leeuwarden on all sides. There are two windmills in Goutum, Kramersmolen and Molen Hoogland.

Teerns (West Frisian: Tearns) is a hamlet in Leeuwarden municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 17 in 2005. The hamlet is often referred as Hempens-Teerns, because it forms a twin settlement with Hempens.

Hempens (West Frisian: Himpens) is a village in Leeuwarden municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It was first mentioned in 1463 as Hempens, and means "settlement of the people of Hempe (person)".Hempens was an agricultural community. In 1840, it was home to 89 people. The church burnt down in 1945, and was rebuilt in 1948.

Idaerd (Dutch: Idaard) is a village in the municipality of Leeuwarden in the province of Friesland, Netherlands. It had a population of around 80 in January 2017.
