West Frisia (Latin: Frisia Occidentalis) is a term that, when used in an international context, refers to the traditionally Frisian areas that are located west of the Dollart (i.e. in the present-day Netherlands). Along with East Frisia and North Frisia, it is one of the most commonly used subdivisions of Frisia. In its narrowest sense, the term is synonymous with the province of Friesland. Within the Netherlands, however, it is mostly used to refer to the region of West Friesland, located west of Friesland.

Friesland (, Dutch: [ˈfrislɑnt] (listen); official West Frisian: Fryslân [ˈfrislɔ̃ːn] (listen)), historically and traditionally known as Frisia, named after the Frisians, is a province of the Netherlands located in the country's northern part. It is situated west of Groningen, northwest of Drenthe and Overijssel, north of Flevoland, northeast of North Holland, and south of the Wadden Sea. As of January 2020, the province had a population of 649,944 and a total area of 5,749 km2 (2,220 sq mi). The province is divided into 18 municipalities. The capital and seat of the provincial government is the city of Leeuwarden (West Frisian: Ljouwert, Liwwaddes: Liwwadde), a city with 123,107 inhabitants. Other large municipalities in Friesland are Sneek (pop. 33,512), Heerenveen (pop. 50,257), and Smallingerland (includes town of Drachten, pop. 55,938). Since 2017, Arno Brok is the King's Commissioner in the province. A coalition of the Christian Democratic Appeal, the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy, the Labour Party, and the Frisian National Party forms the executive branch. The area of the province was once part of the ancient, larger region of Frisia. The land is mostly made up of grassland and it has numerous lakes. The official languages of Friesland are West Frisian and Dutch. It was named after the region of Frisia.

Swichum is a village in Leeuwarden municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 50 in January 2017.

Eagum (Dutch: Aegum) is a small village in the Dutch province of Friesland. It is in the municipality of Leeuwarden, about 10 km south of the city of Leeuwarden. Eagum had about 35 inhabitants (in January 2017),

The Aquaverium is a permanent Watersport Exhibition, located in Grou, Friesland. It offers 10.000 m² of floorspace to Watersports related companies for showing their products to the public. There is no entrance fee.

Friens is a village in the municipality Leeuwarden in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 80 in January 2017.

Grou (Dutch: Grouw) is a town in the province Friesland of the Netherlands and had around 5655 citizens in January 2017. Since 2014 Grou is part of the municipality of Leeuwarden. The town is located on the Pikmeer lake and the Prinses Margrietkanaal. Heineken operated a distribution centre for Friesland in Grou for 25 years until 2004.It used to be the capital of the municipality of Idaarderadeel before the reorganization of municipalities in 1984, and capital of the municipality of Boarnsterhim until 2014. While the rest of the Netherlands celebrates Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) on December 5, Grou instead celebrates a unique local variation of this children's holiday known as Sint-Piter on February 21. In local lore Sint Piter is a distinct character separate from Saint Nicholas, and was historically known as the patron saint for local fishermen.A nickname for the town is Tsiisferdûnsers, meaning cheese dancers, from a story where a fiddler was paid with cheese at a village dance.

Boarnsterhim (West Frisian pronunciation; Dutch: Boornsterhem [ˈboːr(ə)nstərˌɦɛm] (listen)) was a municipality in the northern Netherlands. On 1 January 2014, the municipality was dissolved and its territory was split between four other municipalities: De Friese Meren, which was established that day, Leeuwarden, Heerenveen and Súdwest-Fryslân.

Reduzum (Dutch: Roordahuizum) is a village in Leeuwarden municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 1,320 in January 2017. The community is notable for working towards a sustainable energy consumption within the village.

Grou-Jirnsum is a railway station located between Grou and Jirnsum, Netherlands. Opened on 1 September 1868, it is located on the Arnhem–Leeuwarden railway. Service are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen. Originally named Grouw-Irnsum, it was renamed Grou-Jirnsum on 30 May 1999.

Wirdum (West Frisian: Wurdum) is a village in Leeuwarden municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 1,060 in January 2017.

The Protestant church of Grou or Saint Peter's church is a religious building in Grou, Netherlands, one of the many medieval churches in Friesland. The Romanesque church was built in the first half of the 13th century out of tuffstone. Already in the 13th century the church was heightened. In the 15th century the church was lengthened to the west and heightened for the second time with Brick. The current tower dates from the early 15th century.The monumental Pipe organ was built in 1853 by L. van Dam & Zn. from Leeuwarden. The church is located on the Kerkstraat 4 and was once a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Peter but became a Protestant church after the Protestant reformation. It is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 22894 and is rated with a very high historical value.
