Merseburg was a Verwaltungsgemeinschaft ("collective municipality") in the Saalekreis district, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The seat of the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft was in Merseburg. Merseburg Cathedral (German: Merseburger Dom) is the proto-cathedral of the former Bishopric of Merseburg in Merseburg, Germany. The mostly Gothic church is considered an artistic and historical highlight in southern Saxony-Anhalt.

Geisel is a river of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The source of the Geisel, the Geiselquell, is located in the village of Sankt Micheln just west of Mücheln. The Geisel flows east through Geiseltal, or Geisel valley, until it flows into the Gotthardteich in Merseburg, thats runoff, the Klia, empties into the Saale.

Luppe is a river of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It lies in the floodplain around the confluence of the rivers Saale and White Elster, near the cities Leipzig and Halle. It flows into the Saale in Schkopau. Until the 1930s, when the Neue Luppe was constructed, the Luppe was a distributary of the White Elster. The Nahle and the Alte Luppe are relicts of the former course of the Luppe. The remaining Luppe flows from near Kleinliebenau to the west, and no longer receives water from its former upper course.

The Merseburg University of Applied Sciences (German: Hochschule Merseburg - University of Applied Sciences) is an institution of higher education (a vocational university) located in the town of Merseburg, Germany. It was established on April 1, 1992. Its precursor was the Technical University Leuna-Merseburg (de).

Schkopau is a municipality in the Saalekreis district, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.

The Saale-Elster Viaduct is a railway bridge along the Erfurt–Leipzig/Halle high-speed railway in Central Germany. It was completed in 2013 and opened in 2015. The viaduct is 6,465 metres (21,211 ft) long and thereby the longest bridge in Germany and the longest high-speed rail bridge in Europe. It includes a branch of 2,112 metres (6,929 ft) length. The prestressed concrete box girder bridge carries a Deutsche Bahn Intercity-Express (ICE) line over the extended floodplain at the confluence of the Saale and White Elster rivers, a natural habitat of wild fauna and flora south of Halle, Saxony-Anhalt. The branch provides a connection to the parallel Halle–Bebra railway line.

The Reide is a stream in the districts of Saalekreis and Halle (Saale) in the German state Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is a tributary of the White Elster, which it joins south of Halle.
