Merseburg Cathedral

Merseburg-Querfurt was a district (Kreis) in the south of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Neighboring districts were (from northwest clockwise) Sangerhausen, Mansfelder Land, Saalkreis, the district-free city Halle, the districts Delitzsch and Leipziger Land in Saxony, the districts Weißenfels and Burgenlandkreis, and the Kyffhäuserkreis in Thuringia.

Merseburg was a Verwaltungsgemeinschaft ("collective municipality") in the Saalekreis district, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The seat of the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft was in Merseburg. Merseburg (German: [ˈmɛʁzəbʊʁk] ) is a town in central Germany in southern Saxony-Anhalt, situated on the river Saale, and approximately 14 km south of Halle (Saale) and 30 km west of Leipzig. It is the capital of the Saalekreis district. It had a diocese founded by Archbishop Adalbert of Magdeburg. The University of Merseburg is located within the town. Merseburg has around 35,000 inhabitants.

Merseburg Hauptbahnhof is the main station of the town of Merseburg in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. It is located on the Halle–Bebra railway (Thuringian Railway) and Deutsche Bahn assigns it to category 4. Merseburg is located in the tariff area of the Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund (central Germany transport association).

Geiseltalsee Solarpark, also known as Geiseltalsee, is a 4 MWp photovoltaic power plant located in Merseburg, Germany. The power plant was constructed by BP Solar using 24,864 BP solar modules. The power station was completed in 2004

Geisel is a river of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The source of the Geisel, the Geiselquell, is located in the village of Sankt Micheln just west of Mücheln. The Geisel flows east through Geiseltal, or Geisel valley, until it flows into the Gotthardteich in Merseburg, thats runoff, the Klia, empties into the Saale.

The Merseburg University of Applied Sciences (German: Hochschule Merseburg - University of Applied Sciences) is an institution of higher education (a vocational university) located in the town of Merseburg, Germany. It was established on April 1, 1992. Its precursor was the Technical University Leuna-Merseburg (de).

Luppe is a river of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It lies in the floodplain around the confluence of the rivers Saale and White Elster, near the cities Leipzig and Halle. It flows into the Saale in Schkopau. Until the 1930s, when the Neue Luppe was constructed, the Luppe was a distributary of the White Elster. The Nahle and the Alte Luppe are relicts of the former course of the Luppe. The remaining Luppe flows from near Kleinliebenau to the west, and no longer receives water from its former upper course.

Leuna is a town in Saxony-Anhalt, eastern Germany, south of Merseburg and Halle, on the river Saale. The town is known for the Leunawerke, at 13 km2 one of the biggest chemical industrial complexes in Germany, where a very wide range of chemicals and plastics is produced. In 1960, Leuna's population was nearly 10,000, but after reunification high unemployment rates and poor living conditions, including pollution from nearby industries, caused significant outward migration. Before the 31 December 2009 incorporation of ten neighbouring municipalities, its population had declined to 6,670.

Kreypau is a village and a former municipality in the district Saalekreis, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 31 December 2009, it is part of the town Leuna.
