Riders Mills Historic District is a national historic district located at Chatham in Columbia County, New York. The district includes 20 contributing buildings, eight contributing structures, and one contributing site. It includes the remnants of the one thriving hamlet of Riders Mills, located along the Kinderhook Creek and largely wiped out by a flood in 1869. Most of the buildings are residential and date to the early to mid-19th century and reflect a variety of popular architectural styles such as Georgian and Greek Revival. In addition to residences, the district includes a schoolhouse and bridge. There are also eight known archaeological sites, mostly the foundations of mills and residences.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

The Dewey Loeffel Landfill is an EPA superfund site located in Rensselaer County, New York. In the 1950s and 1960s, several companies including General Electric, Bendix Corporation and Schenectady Chemicals used the site as a disposal facility for more than 46,000 tons of industrial hazardous wastes, including solvents, waste oils, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), scrap materials, sludges and solids. Some hazardous substances, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and PCBs, have migrated from the facility to underlying aquifers and downstream surface water bodies, resulting in contamination of groundwater, surface water, sediments and several species of fish. There is currently a ban on fish consumption in Nassau Lake and the impacted tributaries. Site investigations are underway to determine the nature and extent of the contamination and inform the development of permanent cleanup options for the site. In 1986, Schenectady Chemicals agreed that it would pay $496,500 toward the cleanup effort.

The Wilbor House, also known as The Thompson Farm, is a historic home located at Old Chatham in Columbia County, New York. It was built in around 1790 and is a two-story, five by two bay, heavy timber frame dwelling on a raised fieldstone foundation. It is topped by a medium pitched gable roof. The house has a one-and-one-half-story wing, with a single-story wing extended from it.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Elisha Gilbert House is a historic home located at New Lebanon in Columbia County, New York. Built in 1794, the home is a massive, two story frame Federal style residence with a gambrel roof and a five bay facade with a center entrance pavilion and clapboard siding. The attic level once held a Masonic Lodge meeting hall. Also on the property is a family cemetery and 19th century barn.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

It is one of the earliest settlements in the town and was originally named Chatham.The center of Old Chatham is marked by a few businesses around the intersection of the Albany Turnpike and County Rt. 13. Old Chatham is also the headquarters of Blass Communications. The town hosts a parade and sing-along that attracts over 1,000 people annually.

The town, which was originally Jericho Hallow in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, was renamed for Stephen Van Rensselaer. The town is located in the southeastern corner of the county, and has a sign proclaiming it to be the only Stephentown on Earth.

East Chatham is a hamlet located partly in the town of Chatham and partly in the town of Canaan, in the state of New York, United States. It is located at the crossroads of a railroad, Interstate 90, and the Taconic State Parkway. East Chatham is the site of Vovcha Tropa, a campsite owned by Plast, the Ukrainian Scouting Organization. This camp is attended by several hundred scouts. The Rowe-Lant Farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

New England Federal style buildings predominate, with a number of notable Victorian period buildings, including a Second Empire residence dated to the 1870s. Notable churches include St. Mary's Church (1925), Nassau Reformed Church (1901), and Grace United Methodist Church (1833).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
