Nassau is a town in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 4,789 at the 2010 census. The Town of Nassau is at the southern border of the county.

Nassau Lake is a reservoir located in Rensselaer County, New York. Jonathan Hoag, who settled in Nassau in 1792, purchased of Patroon Stephen Van Rensselaer, several hundred acres of land on and adjoining the site of the village of Nassau. The body of water now known as Nassau Lake was then named Hoag's Pond. It was created by Hoag by constructing a dam which covered "the Vlaie" or "Beaver Meadow" with water.Nassau Lake and its dam are owned and maintained by the Nassau Lake Park Improvement Association. Use of the lake and association properties are reserved for members of the association. The land surrounding the lake includes the hamlets of Morey Park (at the north end), Braeside (on the west side of the lake), and Rosecrans Park (at the south end). The entire land surrounding the lake is part of the Nassau Lake census-designated place. There is currently a ban on fish consumption in Nassau Lake due to contamination from the Dewey Loeffel Landfill.

It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.Nassau Lake CDP is in southern Rensselaer County, surrounding a lake of the same name. The CDP includes the hamlets of Rosecrans Park, Braeside, and Morey Park, and it is bordered to the south by the village of Nassau. The CDP is 13 miles (21 km) southeast of Albany, the state capital. The outlet of Nassau Lake, the Valatie Kill, flows south to Kinderhook Creek, which continues southwest to Stockport Creek and the Hudson River. The Nassau Lake is currently polluted with PCBs, industrial hazardous waste and carcinogens from the Dewey Loeffel Landfill. In 2019, the Community Advisory Group was founded on the basis of communication about future plans regarding this lake and the pollution.

Church Street Historic District is a national historic district located at Nassau in Rensselaer County, New York. It consists of 36 contributing buildings located along Church Street. They include a variety of residential and ecclesiastical building. New England Federal style buildings predominate, with a number of notable Victorian period buildings, including a Second Empire residence dated to the 1870s. Notable churches include St. Mary's Church (1925), Nassau Reformed Church (1901), and Grace United Methodist Church (1833).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Chatham Street Row, also known as the Chatham Street Historic District, is a set of five historic buildings located at Nassau in Rensselaer County, New York. They were built between 1812 and 1880. They include the Vandenberg House (No. 18, 1870), Louisa Heusted House (No. 20, ca. 1880), and the Heusted Store (No. 14, 1864). The Vandenberg House and Louisa Heusted House are notable for the decorative scrollwork on their verandah. Also included is the Phillip Cook House (No. 16, 1812), a five bay, brick Federal style dwelling and the Parsonage (No. 22, 1839).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

They date from about 1800 to about 1920 and include seven Federal styles residences, two early 20th century residences, and one Greek Revival temple-style residence.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

East Nassau Central School is a historic school building located at East Nassau in Rensselaer County, New York. It was built in 1930 and is a two-story, steel frame and concrete block building with a brick veneer in the Classical Revival style. It sits upon a raised concrete foundation and has a flat roof concealed behind a low parapet wall with concrete capstones. It features a small entrance portico of brick with concrete trim and a wrought iron balustrade.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Sand Lake Baptist Church is a historic Baptist church at 2960 State Route 43 in Averill Park, Rensselaer County, New York. The church was built in 1805 and is a Federal period frame building. It is a rectangular, two-story, heavy wood-frame building set on a stone foundation. The church has a gable roof and features a two-stage, semi-engaged Greek Revival style tower added in 1840. The front facade features a Palladian window. Also on the property is a contributing parsonage (1846) and garage (1939).The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Averill Park is a census-designated place within the town of Sand Lake in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 2,098 at the 2020 census. The community is named after the local Averill family. It is located on Route 43, south of Crystal Lake and east of West Sand Lake. The Sand Lake Baptist Church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.
