Hoton is a village and civil parish in the Charnwood district of Leicestershire, England, on the A60 north-east of Loughborough, just south of the border with Nottinghamshire. Nearby places are Prestwold (to the south), Wymeswold (to the east), and Rempstone (to the north, in Nottinghamshire). At the 2011 Census, the population was 353. In 1870, Hoton was described as: "A township and chapelry in Prestwold parish, Leicester; near the river Soar and the boundary with Notts, 3¼ miles NE of Loughborough railway station"

Burton on the Wolds is a village in Leicestershire, England situated on the B676 road 3 miles (4.8 km) west of the A46 and about the same distance to the east of Loughborough, close to the county border with Nottinghamshire. In the 2011 census, the population was measured at 1,218. The Parish Council of Burton on the Wolds, Cotes and Prestwold serves the village and its two neighbouring hamlets. The local borough council is Charnwood.The village's name means 'farm/settlement with a fortification'.The village is listed in the Domesday Book, showing it comprised 15 households in the year 1086. In the Middle Ages Burton was the property of Garendon Abbey. After World War II a Polish camp was set up in the village, due to its proximity to RAF Wymeswold which opened in 1942 and closed in 1957. It now hosts an industrial complex containing Jump Giants Loughborough.Burton has its own primary school, pub and shop (in the garage).The Lion's Head water fountain was probably built in the mid 19th century.Prestwold Hall, which was built in the 18th century, is within the parish of Prestwold, but part of the grounds fall within the Burton on the Wolds parish.

Royal Air Force Wymeswold, or more simply RAF Wymeswold, is a former Royal Air Force satellite station located 3.5 miles (5.6 km) north-east of Loughborough, Leicestershire, England. The airfield is situated between Hoton, Wymeswold and Burton on the Wolds, lying in the current district of Charnwood.

Rempstone is a village and civil parish in the Rushcliffe district of Nottinghamshire, England. It is close to Nottingham, Loughborough, Melton Mowbray and Shepshed as well as the Leicestershire border. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 367. It is situated at the crossing of the A60 and A6006 roads and the village is mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book.

Walton on the Wolds is a village and civil parish in the Charnwood district of Leicestershire, England. In the United Kingdom Census 2011 the parish had a population of 288. It is near to Burton on the Wolds and Barrow upon Soar. It was the location of one series of Boon, starring Neil Morrissey. The series used the Tudor house, Kings Cote, as Boon's house. The name Walton is derived from the settlement or farmstead of Wealas - native Celts, which is what the new Anglo Saxon speaking peoples called the native inhabitants of England. The village has an Anglican church called St Mary's.

Cotes is a hamlet and very small civil parish near the town of Loughborough in Leicestershire, England. Cotes has a population of about 50. At the 2011 census the population remained less than 100 and was included in the civil parish of Burton on the Wolds. The name 'Cotes' derives from the Old English cot meaning 'cottages'.It lies on the River Soar, and Cotes Bridge provides the main bridging point in that area. The A60 Trunk Road goes over Cotes Bridge on its way out of Loughborough towards Nottingham. The B676, the only other significant nearby road, begins at the A60 just to the east of Cotes Bridge and goes off towards the village of Burton on the Wolds. There was a minor battle at Cotes Bridge on 18 March 1644 during the First English Civil War, when Royalist forces captured the bridge on their way to relieve Newark. The medieval village of Cotes itself was abandoned around 1690, possibly because of plague, although most commentators suggest the impact of the Inclosure Acts is a more likely explanation.The former Member of Parliament for the local Loughborough constituency from 2010-2019, Nicky Morgan, chose to include the name of the area as part of her title upon elevation to the House of Lords as Baroness Morgan of Cotes.

Cotes Grassland is a 3.3-hectare (8.2-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Cotes in Leicestershire.This meadow on the bank of the River Soar has a thin soil on alluvial river gravels. It has several plants which are uncommon in the Midlands, such as soft trefoil, spotted medick, knotted hedge-parsley, wild clary and subterranean trefoil.There is access by a public footpath which crosses the site.

Cotes Mill is a Grade II listed 16th-century water mill on the banks of the River Soar in Cotes, Leicestershire. The first recorded mention of the mill was in the Domesday Survey in 1086.In 2012 the building and grounds of Cotes Mill were bought by Paul J. O'Leary, designer and inventor of flatulence filtering products. Cotes Mill now houses four of Mr O’Leary’s businesses including deVOL Kitchens and Shreddies Underwear. It is also a vintage and antiques centre and furniture, underwear and clothing are made on site.On January 6, 2020 Nicky Morgan was named as Baroness of Cotes, the hamlet near Loughborough, Leicestershire where Cotes Mill is located.
