Marishes is a civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. The parish has an area of some 2,960 acres (1,199 hectares), and is located between Malton and Pickering in the low-lying Vale of Pickering. Whilst the main occupation of the residents in the parish is agricultural in nature, the area is known for its onshore gas field. In 2015, the population of the parish was estimated to be 140.

Eden Camp Modern History Museum is a large Second World War-related museum near Malton in North Yorkshire in England. It occupies a former Second World War prisoner-of-war camp of 33 huts. After the prisoners left, the camp was used for storage and then abandoned. Its grounds then became overgrown. As the museum was being set up, much clearing, as well as repair and renovation of the buildings, was required. One of its buildings contains three human torpedoes and a "Sleeping Beauty" Motorised Submersible Canoe.The museum has fully restored a Super Sherman (M50) to its original working classic, amongst many other military vehicles which are now on display in the Heritage Hall - a new purpose built events & exhibition centre. The museum also has a reproduction V1.

Ryton is a hamlet and former civil parish 19 miles (31 km) from York, now in the parish of Habton, in the Ryedale district, in the county of North Yorkshire, England. In 1961 the parish had a population of 124.

Old Malton is a village in North Yorkshire, England. The village is situated just south of the A64 road and is 1-mile (1.5 km) north-east of the town of Malton. The village is on the B1257 which links Malton with the A64 and the A169 road to the north and is bounded on its eastern side by the River Derwent.

Malton Priory, Old Malton, North Yorkshire, England, is near to the town of Malton. It was founded as a monastery of the Gilbertine Order by Eustace fitz John, the lord of Malton Castle. Fitz John founded both Malton Priory and Watton Priory around 1150; some sources suggest that this was an act of penance for his support for the Scots in the Battle of the Standard. The prior was accused of taking part in the Pilgrimage of Grace.After the Dissolution, the site was bought in 1540 by Robert Holgate, the former master of the Gilbertine Order, who was then Bishop of Llandaff. In 1545 Holgate became Archbishop of York. He founded three grammar schools in Yorkshire, including Malton School (on part of the monastic site).

Lake Pickering was an extensive proglacial lake of the Devensian glacial. It filled the Vale of Pickering between the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds, when the (largely Scandinavian) ice blocked the drainage, which had flowed north-eastwards past the site of Filey towards the Northern North Sea basin. The lake surface rose until it overflowed southwards and cut an exit between the Howardian Hills and the Yorkshire Wolds at Kirkham Priory between Malton and Stamford Bridge, so creating the River Derwent. In modern times, as an artificial flood relief channel, much of the flow of the River Derwent (which drains a large area of the North York Moors) has been diverted, about 6 miles (10 km) upstream of West Ayton, before it reaches the plain of the Vale of Pickering, east into a new channel called the Sea Cut along a previously dry side valley (probably a glacial overflow channel) and into the existing Scalby Beck's course through Scalby, North Yorkshire to the North Sea. The idea of these lakes was first proposed in 1902,when Professor Percy Kendall of Leeds University published a paper detailing his theories. It has been suggested that lake Pickering was the largest inland lake in Britain at the end of the last Ice Age.

Marishes Road railway station was a railway station on the York and North Midland Railway's branch line to Pickering. It opened on 5 July 1845, and until 1848 was called High Marishes, after the village of that name. It closed on 8 March 1965 (although freight to Pickering continued for a further year). Since closure the main station buildings have remained intact, with the exception of the small wooden signal box which stood immediately north-east of the level crossing - which is now an exhibition as part of Pickering Station Trail on the NYMR. All signals have also disappeared, including the fine NER lattice post up home signal.

Scagglethorpe is a village and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England. It is situated just south from the A64 road, 3 miles (5 km) east from Malton and almost midway between York and Scarborough. Until 1974 the village lay in the historic county boundaries of the East Riding of Yorkshire. From 1974 to 2023 it was part of the Ryedale district. It is now administered by North Yorkshire Council. To the east of Bull Piece Lane, 700 yards (640 m) south from the village, is evidence of Iron Age or Roman ditches and rectilinear enclosures, and within the village have been found fragments of Roman pottery from the 1st century CE. On Charlton Place is the site of a medieval manor house. Just south from the A64, 500 yards (457 m) west from the village, have been found Roman coins and a Celtic brooch.In the 1086 Domesday Book Scagglethorpe is written as "Scachetorp". The manor, in the East Riding Hundred of Scard, comprised one household. Lordship of the manor had passed to Robert, Count of Mortain, who also became Tenant-in-chief.Scagglethorpe is derived from the Viking word "Schachetorp", meaning hamlet of a man called Skakull or Skakli. On Village Street is Scagglethorpe Manor, a Grade II listed 17th-century farmhouse with an early-19th-century wing. Pevsner also notes a c. 1816 Gothic-style Wesleyan Methodist chapel and a cottage with a Gothic porch. The chapel is part of the Malton Methodist Circuit.Village facilities include a public house, playing field and a village hall.

Rillington railway station (Rillington Junction until 1890) was a railway station serving the village of Rillington in North Yorkshire, England and on the York to Scarborough Line. It was also the junction station for the line to Whitby and was opened on 5 July 1845 by the York and North Midland Railway. It closed to normal passenger traffic on 22 September 1930, but was used by special trains until the 1960s. The goods yard was closed on 10 August 1964. The station building has been converted to a private house but the remainder of the station has now been demolished. Though the station served Rillington, it was located almost 1 mile (1.6 km) away from the village.

Norton-on-Derwent, commonly referred to as simply Norton, is a town and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. Norton borders the market town of Malton, and is separated from it by the River Derwent. The 2001 Census gave the population of the parish as 6,943, increasing at the 2011 Census to 7,387.

Ryedale was a constituency in North Yorkshire represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It was created in 1983 and abolished in 2010.

Ryedale was a non-metropolitan district in North Yorkshire, England. It was in the Vale of Pickering, a low-lying flat area of land drained by the River Derwent. The Vale's landscape is rural with scattered villages and towns. It has been inhabited continuously from the Mesolithic period. The economy was largely agricultural with light industry and tourism playing an increasing role.Towns included Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside, Malton, Norton-on-Derwent, and Pickering. Part of Ryedale lies within the North York Moors National Park. The A64 passed through Ryedale and villages such as Rillington. In the 2011 Census, the population of this primarily rural area of 150,659 hectares, the largest district in North Yorkshire, was 51,700.
