Norton College is a mixed secondary school, sixth form and specialist humanities college with academy status in Norton, North Yorkshire, England. There are approximately 801 children on roll. The school was inspected by Ofsted in November 2007 and received a Grade 1 (outstanding) assessment. In May 2009 the school was described as one of the most successful schools in the country. It was named in the report Data driven school transformation, published by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.At the beginning of 2011 the status of Norton College was redesignated as Grade 1 in a remote inspection by Ofsted, following a subject inspection in November 2010. In May 2011 the College gained academy status under the multi-school model. The resulting trust is the 'Evolution Schools Learning Trust,' with Norton College retaining its name.Norton College was given a "room for improvement" rating from Ofsted in 2012 after GCSE and A level results fell dramatically. The College was inspected in October 2013 and rated Grade 2 (good) in all categories. The inspection team reported that the College had improved in all areas, particularly in GCSE results. Norton College was also given a short inspection on 20 September 2017 and continued to be good. It is said they have firmly embedded their culture of 'aspire'. This inspection also says that the quality of teaching and learning has improved. Its also reported that work needs to be done to ensure attendance rises.

Malton School is an 11-18 mixed comprehensive school of some 800 pupils (2021), serving the market town of Malton and the surrounding area in Ryedale, North Yorkshire, England.

Derventio, sometimes described as Derventio Brigantium (Latin for "Derventio of the Brigantes") in order to distinguish it from other places called Derventio, was a Roman fort and settlement located beneath the modern town of Malton in North Yorkshire, England. The fort is positioned 18 miles north-east of Eboracum on the River Derwent.

Malton Castle was a castle in Malton, North Yorkshire, England. A wooden motte and bailey castle was built by William Tyson, lord of Alnwick in the 11th century, on the site of the Roman fort of Derventio Brigantum. The castle was given to Eustace fitz John, who rebuilt it in stone.Eustace negotiated the delivery of the castle to King David I of Scotland in 1138. The Scots garrisoned the castle, however it was captured later the same year. King Richard I of England visited the castle in 1189 and King Edward II of England in 1307. The castle was held against King John of England, during the First Barons' War. After the battle of Old Byland the castle was captured and destroyed by King Robert I of Scotland in 1322. The castle was not repaired and fell into ruins. Only the former gatehouse and some short sections of original medieval curtain wall still exist. The gatehouse is now used as a hotel. A house was built on the site in 1569 by Ralph, Lord Eure, which came to be inherited by two sisters of the Eure family, Margaret and Mary. In 1674 they fell out over ownership and took their argument to the County Sheriff, who destroyed the house and put the stones into two equal piles for the sisters to share.The site is now a scheduled monument.

Ryedale was a constituency in North Yorkshire represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It was created in 1983 and abolished in 2010.

Ryedale was a non-metropolitan district in North Yorkshire, England. It was in the Vale of Pickering, a low-lying flat area of land drained by the River Derwent. The Vale's landscape is rural with scattered villages and towns. It has been inhabited continuously from the Mesolithic period. The economy was largely agricultural with light industry and tourism playing an increasing role.Towns included Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside, Malton, Norton-on-Derwent, and Pickering. Part of Ryedale lies within the North York Moors National Park. The A64 passed through Ryedale and villages such as Rillington. In the 2011 Census, the population of this primarily rural area of 150,659 hectares, the largest district in North Yorkshire, was 51,700.

Malton Priory, Old Malton, North Yorkshire, England, is near to the town of Malton. It was founded as a monastery of the Gilbertine Order by Eustace fitz John, the lord of Malton Castle. Fitz John founded both Malton Priory and Watton Priory around 1150; some sources suggest that this was an act of penance for his support for the Scots in the Battle of the Standard. The prior was accused of taking part in the Pilgrimage of Grace.After the Dissolution, the site was bought in 1540 by Robert Holgate, the former master of the Gilbertine Order, who was then Bishop of Llandaff. In 1545 Holgate became Archbishop of York. He founded three grammar schools in Yorkshire, including Malton School (on part of the monastic site).

Malton is a market town, civil parish and electoral ward in North Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire, the town has a population measured for both the civil parish and the electoral ward at the 2011 Census as 4,888.The town is located to the north of the River Derwent which forms the historic boundary between the North and East Ridings of Yorkshire. Until 2023 the town was part of the Ryedale district and was the location of the headquarters of the district council. Facing Malton on the other side of the Derwent is Norton. The Karro Food Group (formerly known as Malton Bacon Factory), Malton bus station and Malton railway station are located in Norton-on-Derwent. Malton is the local area's commercial and retail centre. In the town centre there are small traditional independent shops and high street names. The market place has recently become a meeting area with a number of coffee bars and cafés opening all day to complement the public houses. Malton has been described as "the food capital of Yorkshire", and was voted one of the best places to live in Britain by The Sunday Times in both the 2017 and 2018 lists.Malton was named the dog-friendliest town in the UK at the annual Dog Friendly Awards, in association with the Kennel Club in 2018/19. In 2020 Malton was named as one of the most dog-friendly staycation spots in the UK and the best in Yorkshire.

Ss Leonard & Mary Roman Catholic Church is a medieval church situated in Malton, North Yorkshire, England, now serving a parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Middlesbrough. It is a Grade II* listed building in the National Heritage List for England, and retains at least 24 pieces of medieval figurative carving.A notice outside of the church reads: "St Leonard's with St Mary's. Founded in the 12th century as a Chapel of Ease to the Gilbertine Priory at Old Malton. This Church was transferred by way of gift as an ecumenical gesture of goodwill from the Church of England to the Roman Catholic Church in 1971." Dating as it does from the mid- to late-1100s, this church is the oldest currently held by Catholics in England, a distinction formerly belonging to St Etheldreda's, London, which was built some time between 1250 and 1290. St Leonard's is the first English parish church to be returned to Roman Catholic use following the Reformation.

Old Malton is a village in North Yorkshire, England. The village is situated just south of the A64 road and is 1-mile (1.5 km) north-east of the town of Malton. The village is on the B1257 which links Malton with the A64 and the A169 road to the north and is bounded on its eastern side by the River Derwent.

Malton railway station is a Grade II listed station which serves the towns of Malton and Norton-on-Derwent in North Yorkshire, England. Situated on the York-Scarborough Line, it is operated by TransPennine Express, who provide all passenger train services. Once an interchange between four lines, Malton station is now only served by trains operating between York and Scarborough. The station itself is south of the River Derwent, and is actually in the town of Norton in the East Riding of Yorkshire, which for many years was in a different county to Malton (which is in North Yorkshire).
