The 1938 UCI Road World Championships was the eighteenth edition of the UCI Road World Championships. It took place in Valkenburg, the Netherlands on 2 and 5 September 1938. Belgian Marcel Kint became the winner in the professional road race. It was the last edition before World War II and Kint thus remained world champion for eight years. In the same period, the 1938 UCI Track Cycling World Championships were organized in the Olympic Stadium of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The 1948 UCI Road World Championships was the 21st edition of the UCI Road World Championships It took place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 August 1948 in Valkenburg, the Netherlands. For the first time, six riders per country were allowed to participate in the professional race. The Cauberg had to be climbed every lap. Briek Schotte became the winner in the professional cyclists' road race after 266.8 kilometres of cycling (27 laps). Only 10 of the 50 riders who started rode out the race. In the same period, the 1948 UCI Track Cycling World Championships were organized in the Olympic Stadium of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The Cauberg is a hill in Valkenburg aan de Geul, a town in the South Limburg region of the Netherlands. The hill played an important role in the early development of tourism in Valkenburg. Today, several major tourist attractions are situated on or nearby Cauberg. The hill's fame is mainly due to the many cycling races and championships that were held here. The length of the climb is around 1,200 metres (0.7 mi), with a maximum grade of 12%.

Valkenburg Castle is a ruined castle in Valkenburg aan de Geul, Netherlands. It is unique in the Netherlands in that it is the only castle in the country built on a hill. The castle is listed in the top hundred of Dutch cultural monuments.

Vilt is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg, within the municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul. It is located on the top of the Cauberg. The village was first mentioned in the 14th century as Velt, and means field. Vilt was home to 164 people in 1840.Vilt does not have its own church, and is a part of parish of Berg, but used have a primary school. The school closed in 2018.The village also has several associations, including a football club.

Valkenburg aan de Geul (Dutch: [ˈvɑlkə(m)bʏr(ə)x aːn də ˈɣøːl] ; Limburgish: Valkeberg [ˈvɑl˦əkəˌbæʀ˦əx] ) is a municipality situated in the southeastern Dutch province of Limburg. The name refers to the central town in the municipality, Valkenburg, and the small river Geul passing through it.

The Kruitmolen (English: Powder mill, Limburgish: Polfermeule) is a watermill located on the Plenkertstraat 82 in Valkenburg aan de Geul, Netherlands. Build in 1820 along the Geul river, the watermill functioned as powder mill until 1851 and temporarily became a paper mill between 1875 and 1884. Since 1887 it is part of a brewery where it currently still forms a part of the electrical supply system. The mill is a rijksmonument since January 24, 1984 and is part of the Top 100 Dutch heritage sites.

The Groeve Einde Plenkertweg is a marl quarry and geological monument in South Limburg, Netherlands, located in the municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul. This underground limestone quarry is situated in the hamlet of Plenkert, west of Valkenburg, along Plenkertstraat. The quarry is located at the northwestern edge of the Polferbos forest on the northern edge of the Plateau of Margraten, transitioning into the Geuldal valley. Here, the plateau descends steeply several meters. Approximately 600 meters to the west lies the Viltergroeve quarry, about 30 meters to the west is the Pompstation Heytgracht, approximately 45 meters to the southwest is the Carolusgroeve, and around 250 meters to the east are the Roman Catacombs and the Heidegroeve.

De Valkenier (English: The falconer) was an amusement park in Valkenburg aan de Geul, Netherlands. The attractions focused mostly on families with children below the age of twelve. Founded by Jan Albert Otermans in 1934 under the name Ontspanningsoord Natuurbad Valkenburg (English: Recreational natural pool Valkenburg) it was the oldest amusement park in the Benelux countries. Starting with a rowing pond with a playground and pool, the park added attractions over the years and slowly grew into a modern amusement park. A rollercoaster and other mechanised entertainment was introduced in the 1970s and 1980s and the name of the park was changed to De Valkenier.

Prinses Juliana is a defunct restaurant located in Valkenburg aan de Geul in the Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one or two Michelin stars in the period 1958–2006.The last head chef was Andy Brauers.The importance of the restaurant is found not only in the food that it produced, but also in the chefs that it trained. Many Michelin starred chefs started their career or did part of their training here. Young chefs that worked at Prinses Juliana include Cas Spijkers, Margo Reuten, Nico Boreas, Michel Lambermon, Erik van Loo and Jeroen Granneman.

Valkenburg railway station is located in Valkenburg aan de Geul, the Netherlands. The station was opened on 23 October 1853 and is located on the Maastricht–Aachen railway. The station building is the oldest in the Netherlands.

Margraten (Dutch: [mɑrˈɣraːtə(n)] (listen); Limburgish: Mergraote) is a village and a former municipality in the southeastern part of the Netherlands. On 1 January 2011 this former municipality merged with a neighbouring one, which resulted in the new Eijsden-Margraten municipality.
