Valkenburg aan de Geul (Dutch: [ˈvɑlkə(m)bʏr(ə)x aːn də ˈɣøːl] ; Limburgish: Valkeberg [ˈvɑl˦əkəˌbæʀ˦əx] ) is a municipality situated in the southeastern Dutch province of Limburg. The name refers to the central town in the municipality, Valkenburg, and the small river Geul passing through it.

Valkenburg Castle is a ruined castle in Valkenburg aan de Geul, Netherlands. It is unique in the Netherlands in that it is the only castle in the country built on a hill. The castle is listed in the top hundred of Dutch cultural monuments.

Prinses Juliana is a defunct restaurant located in Valkenburg aan de Geul in the Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one or two Michelin stars in the period 1958–2006.The last head chef was Andy Brauers.The importance of the restaurant is found not only in the food that it produced, but also in the chefs that it trained. Many Michelin starred chefs started their career or did part of their training here. Young chefs that worked at Prinses Juliana include Cas Spijkers, Margo Reuten, Nico Boreas, Michel Lambermon, Erik van Loo and Jeroen Granneman.

Valkenburg railway station is located in Valkenburg aan de Geul, the Netherlands. The station was opened on 23 October 1853 and is located on the Maastricht–Aachen railway. The station building is the oldest in the Netherlands.

The Wilhelminatoren was a lookout tower in the Dutch town of Valkenburg aan de Geul. The thirty-meter-high Rijksmonument, designed by Christiaan Alfons Prevoo and constructed in 1906, stood on the Heunsberg and offered a wide vantage point over the South Limburg Heuvelland. In the early morning of 16 March 2025, the tower suddenly collapsed. This was a different tower from the Wilhelminatoren with the same name only 20 kilometers further away at the Vaalserberg in Vaals.

The Heunsberg is a 145 meter high hill in the South Limburg area of the Netherlands, part of the municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul. The hill is located directly south of the center of Valkenburg and the hamlet of Neerhem. The hill extends from the Sibbergrubbe in the east (with the Biebosch behind it) to the Daalhemerweg in the west. The Heunsberg in addition runs south to the village of Sibbe. The hill is a northern extension of the Margraten Plateau. On the northeast side the hill is bordered by the Geuldal.

De Valkenier (English: The falconer) was an amusement park in Valkenburg aan de Geul, Netherlands. The attractions focused mostly on families with children below the age of twelve. Founded by Jan Albert Otermans in 1934 under the name Ontspanningsoord Natuurbad Valkenburg (English: Recreational natural pool Valkenburg) it was the oldest amusement park in the Benelux countries. Starting with a rowing pond with a playground and pool, the park added attractions over the years and slowly grew into a modern amusement park. A rollercoaster and other mechanised entertainment was introduced in the 1970s and 1980s and the name of the park was changed to De Valkenier.

The Cauberg is a hill in Valkenburg aan de Geul, a town in the South Limburg region of the Netherlands. The hill played an important role in the early development of tourism in Valkenburg. Today, several major tourist attractions are situated on or nearby Cauberg. The hill's fame is mainly due to the many cycling races and championships that were held here. The length of the climb is around 1,200 metres (0.7 mi), with a maximum grade of 12%.

The Kruitmolen (English: Powder mill, Limburgish: Polfermeule) is a watermill located on the Plenkertstraat 82 in Valkenburg aan de Geul, Netherlands. Build in 1820 along the Geul river, the watermill functioned as powder mill until 1851 and temporarily became a paper mill between 1875 and 1884. Since 1887 it is part of a brewery where it currently still forms a part of the electrical supply system. The mill is a rijksmonument since January 24, 1984 and is part of the Top 100 Dutch heritage sites.

The Groeve Einde Plenkertweg is a marl quarry and geological monument in South Limburg, Netherlands, located in the municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul. This underground limestone quarry is situated in the hamlet of Plenkert, west of Valkenburg, along Plenkertstraat. The quarry is located at the northwestern edge of the Polferbos forest on the northern edge of the Plateau of Margraten, transitioning into the Geuldal valley. Here, the plateau descends steeply several meters. Approximately 600 meters to the west lies the Viltergroeve quarry, about 30 meters to the west is the Pompstation Heytgracht, approximately 45 meters to the southwest is the Carolusgroeve, and around 250 meters to the east are the Roman Catacombs and the Heidegroeve.

The Capture of Valkenburg of 1574, took place in early February 1574, at Valkenburg, South Holland (present-day the Netherlands), during the Eighty Years' War and the Anglo-Spanish War (1585–1604), in the context of the siege of Leiden. The fortress of Valkenburg (northwest of Leiden), garrisoned by five English companies commanded by Colonel Edward Chester, was of strategic importance to facilitate (or complicate) the Spanish efforts at Leiden. In early February, when the Spanish troops (sent by Maestre de Campo Don Francisco de Valdés) advanced over Valkenburg Castle, the English troops surrendered the fortress to the Spaniards and fled towards Leiden. Then, the Spanish forces entered and took possession of the fortress (Spanish: tomando la fortaleza a placer). For the cowardice demonstrated at Valkenburg, the English troops were rejected by the Dutch rebel army at Leiden, and finally Chester's troops surrendered to the Spanish army. Soon after, the English forces at Alphen (now called Alphen aan den Rijn, southwest Leiden), were defeated as well, and at Gouda, another English force was surprised and defeated by a contingent of Spanish troops, with the loss of 300 men and three colours for the English. In April 1574, Francisco de Valdés halted the siege of Leiden, to face the invading rebel army led by Louis of Nassau and Henry of Nassau-Dillenburg (brothers of Prince William of Orange), but the Spanish forces commanded by General Don Sancho d'Avila reached them first, leading to the Battle of Mookerheyde. The Dutch suffered a disastrous defeat, losing at least 3,000 men, with both Louis and Henry killed. Finally, the rebel army dispersed due to lack of pay.

The 1938 UCI Road World Championships was the eighteenth edition of the UCI Road World Championships. It took place in Valkenburg, the Netherlands on 2 and 5 September 1938. Belgian Marcel Kint became the winner in the professional road race. It was the last edition before World War II and Kint thus remained world champion for eight years. In the same period, the 1938 UCI Track Cycling World Championships were organized in the Olympic Stadium of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
