It is located 20 kilometres (12 mi) away from Fort St George on the Mount-Poonamallee Road. The nearest railway stations are at Guindy (Chennai South Line) about 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) away and Avadi (Chennai West Line) about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) away. The Porur Junction where a much needed road overbridge on the busy Guindy–Poonamallee stretch was built after a very long delay of nearly five years is just about 2 km from Iyyapanthangal and the Poonamallee Junction is just about 6 km from the town.

Iyyapanthangal is an upcoming elevated metro station on the East-West Corridor of the Yellow Line of Chennai Metro in Chennai, India. This metro station will be among the 30 stations of Corridor IV and 18 elevated stations along Corridor IV of the Chennai Metro, Poonamallee Bypass–Lighthouse stretch. This metro station is slated to be commercialized on December 2025.

The S.A. Engineering College (Tamil: எஸ்.ஏ.பொறியியல் கல்லூரி) is an autonomous engineering college in Veeraraghavapuram near Thiruverkadu, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The college was awarded ISO 9001:2008 certificate for academic standard by TUV. The college is accredited by NBA and NAAC with 'A' grade. Poonamallee is suburb of Chennai, India under the Chennai Metropolitan Area. It was historically called Pushpagirimangalam, later renamed in Tamil as Poovirundhavalli (Tamil: [puːʋiɾɯn̪daʋalli]), and now colloquially called as Poondhamalli. It is a town in the Poonamallee taluk of the Tiruvallur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The nearest Railway station is at Avadi. It acts as the gateway to the city from its western side. There are plans to merge the areas under Poonamallee Municipality with Avadi Municipal Corporation.

Thiruverkadu Selection Grade Municipal town in Thiruvallur District is Located at a very close proximity to Chennai mega city. It is situated 13 9” North latitude and 79 55” E longitude. The present extent of this town is 10.75 Sq.Kms.

Vedapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Shiva, located in Thiruverkadu, a Municipality in Tiruvallur district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Shiva is worshipped as Vedapureeswarar, and is represented by the lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Balambigai. The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the Nayanars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. The temple complex covers two acres and it houses two gateway towers known as gopurams, each facing the Vedapureeswarar and Balambigai shrine. The temple has a number of shrines, with those of Vedapureeswarar and his consort Balambigai being the most prominent. The temple has six daily rituals at various times from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and four yearly festivals on its calendar. The Brahmotsavam festival is celebrated during the day of the Magam (February - March) is the most prominent festival. The original complex is believed to have been built before 7th century CE by the Cholas, the temple was reconstructed in 1973 under the technical direction of G. Yegneswaran with the blessings of Sri Swamiji Ramadoss. In modern times, the temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
