De Hef (lit. 'the lift'), officially Koningshaven Bridge, is a vertical-lift bridge over the Koningshaven (Kings Harbor) channel at the port of Rotterdam, Netherlands. Built in 1927, the bridge was part of the Breda–Rotterdam railway line until it was decommissioned in 1993. Today, it is a Rijksmonument heritage site.

The Poortgebouw is a national monument located at Stieltjesstraat 38 in the Kop van Zuid area of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It was built beside the River Maas in 1879 and experienced a range of uses until it was squatted October 3, 1980. It had been standing empty for 2 years and was squatted as a protest intended to highlight the lack of affordable residential housing in Rotterdam.

Rotterdam ( ROT-ər-dam, UK also ROT-ər-DAM, Dutch: [ˌrɔtərˈdɑm] (listen)) is the second largest city and municipality in the Netherlands. It is in the province of South Holland, at the mouth of the Nieuwe Maas channel leading into the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt delta at the North Sea. Its history goes back to 1270, when a dam was constructed in the Rotte. In 1340, Rotterdam was granted city rights by William IV, Count of Holland. The Rotterdam–The Hague metropolitan area, with a population of approximately 2.7 million, is the 10th-largest in the European Union and the most populous in the country. A major logistic and economic centre, Rotterdam is Europe's largest seaport. In 2020, it had a population of 651,446 and is home to over 180 nationalities. Rotterdam is known for its university, riverside setting, lively cultural life, maritime heritage and modern architecture. The near-complete destruction of the city centre in the World War II Rotterdam Blitz has resulted in a varied architectural landscape, including skyscrapers designed by architects such as Rem Koolhaas, Piet Blom and Ben van Berkel.The Rhine, Meuse and Scheldt give waterway access into the heart of Western Europe, including the highly industrialized Ruhr. The extensive distribution system including rail, roads, and waterways have earned Rotterdam the nicknames "Gateway to Europe" and "Gateway to the World".

Noordereiland is a neighborhood of Rotterdam, Netherlands. The Noordereiland owes its name to the Noorderhaven (nowadays Koningshaven) which, under the leadership of C.B. van der Tak was dug between 1872 and 1874. By digging the Noorderhaven, the Noordereiland was separated from the former island of Fijenoord and is now an island between the central parts of the North and South side of the city. Until the end of the 20th century the island was inhabited by a large population of inland skippers. Part of the neighborhood is a protected cityscape. During the German bombings in May 1940, the Noordereiland was much better preserved than other parts of the city, because the Noordereiland was spared by the Luftwaffe, as the Germans had entrenched themselves there. However, more than 600 houses on the tips of the Noordereiland were destroyed by a number of English bombardments, which were intended to chase the Germans away. One of the affected points, the old Prinsenhoofd, was partly excavated in 1961 to form a trench at a depth of 20 meters in the riverbed of the Nieuwe Maas during the construction of the Rotterdam Metro. The green strip at Meeuwenstraat now bears the name Prinsenhoofd.

The Willemsbrug is a bridge next to the Erasmusbrug in the centre of Rotterdam, Netherlands, spanning the Nieuwe Maas. It links the northern part of the city with the Noordereiland and (in combination with the Koninginnebrug) the district of Feijenoord. The bridge was completed in 1981, designed by C. Veerling and named after King Willem III of the Netherlands. It replaced an older bridge that had been opened in 1879 but was severely outdated by the time the decision was made to build a new one. Because of the intensity of the traffic using the old bridge, it was decided to build the new one 150 metres upstream to avoid upsetting the daily flow of traffic across the river. After the completion of the new bridge, the old one was demolished. The Willemsbrug is a cable-stayed bridge with a total span of about 318 meters. It is painted in a red color which puts it in sharp contrast with the light blue painted Erasmus Bridge.

The Maastoren (Dutch for Meuse Tower) is with its height of 165 metres (541 feet) the tallest building in the Netherlands. The office building is situated on the bank of the Nieuwe Maas, after which the building is named, in the neighborhood Kop van Zuid in the South Holland city of Rotterdam. The Maastoren was built between 2006 and 2009, and had OVG as its developer. The Maastoren has a total of 44 above ground floors and two underground floors.The Maastoren serves as the headquarters of the Dutch branch of Deloitte, and is used by the company AKD. In 2019, the State of the Netherlands leased an area of 7,000 m2 (75,347 sq ft). Around 1,600 employees of both companies work in the office building. The Maastoren has a total floor area of 69,000 m2 (742,710 sq ft), of which around 36,500 m2 (392,883 sq ft) is rentable office space. Also, the Maastoren features a parking garage with ten floors, which is operated by APCOA.

Wilhelminaplein is an underground subway station in Rotterdam, Netherlands, which lies south of the Maas river. It is part of Rotterdam Metro lines D and E. Wilhelminaplein station was opened in 1997 as a new infill station of the North-South Line, which itself was already opened in 1968. Because the station was constructed at the location where the metro tunnel is going up on its way to the surface, the platforms, like the rest of the station, are not entirely horizontal. Near the main entrance of the station, a Rotterdam tram stop is located, allowing interchange with RET-operated tram lines 20, 23 and 25. A connection to RET-bus line 60 towards the Wilhelminakade is also available. An entrance was opened in 2005 for visitors to the Nieuwe Luxor Theater, which leads passengers directly to the other side of the busy intersection of Wilhelminaplein and Posthumalaan by moving walkways.

BlueCity is a platform for the circular economy located in former Center Parcs site Tropicana, Rotterdam. It is home to a collective of small businesses operating within a zero waste circular economy, influenced by the Blue Economy. BlueCity's mission is to accelerate the transition from the current linear economy to the circular economy of the future. BlueCity was founded in 2015, when the old Tropicana swimming pool was bought at public auction for €1.7 m in 2015. Since then, the building has been converted into a place where circular economy pioneers can come together and work on the future of circularity. BlueCity is home to more than 40 entrepreneurs who rent a workspace or work in the BlueCity Lab. In addition, BlueCity regularly organizes events that are accessible to a wide audience. The organization also helps companies to make their business operations more circular. It is also possible for individuals to rent a workplace in the building.

Rijnhaven is an above-ground subway station in the south of the city of Rotterdam. It is part of Rotterdam Metro lines D and E. The station opened on 9 February 1968, the same date that the North-South Line (also formerly called Erasmus line), of which it is a part, was opened. Near the station, travelers can get on RET-operated bus line 77 which can bring them to the SS Rotterdam.

Kop van Zuid is a neighborhood of Rotterdam, The Netherlands, located on the south bank of the Nieuwe Maas opposite the center of town. The district is relatively young and includes the Wilhelmina Pier as well as the V bounded by the Rose Street and railway line on one side and the Rotterdam-Dordrecht Hilledijk, Hill Street and Rijnhaven on the other. The Kop van Zuid is built on old, abandoned port areas around the Binnenhaven, Entrepothaven, Spoorweghaven, Rijnhaven and the Wilhelmina Pier. These port sites and the Nieuwe Maas made for a large physical distance between the center and north of the Maas and southern Rotterdam. By converting this area into an urban area, and providing better infrastructure, planners sought to unite the northern and southern parts of the city.

Rotterdam Zuid is a railway station in the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, located on the Breda–Rotterdam railway between Rotterdam and Dordrecht. It is situated at the end of the Willemsspoortunnel in the borough of Feijenoord.

The Admiraliteitsbrug is a drawbridge over the Buizengat in Rotterdam. The bridge is located on Willem Ruyslaan and connects Oostzeedijk to the Maasboulevard. The bridge has a passage width of 9.20 m (30.2 ft) and a vertical clearance of 2.75 m (9 ft 0 in). The bridge is unmanned and any request to open it must be submitted to the ministry (aangevraagd) at the Boerengatbrug. The bridge will not be operated if the Boerengatbrug or Oostbrug is opened or when the dam is closed.
