Chalford railway station

Chalford is a large village in the Frome Valley of the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire, England. It is to the southeast of Stroud about four miles (six kilometres) upstream. It gives its name to Chalford parish, which covers the villages of Chalford, Chalford Hill, France Lynch, Bussage and Brownshill, spread over two square miles (five square kilometres) of the Cotswold countryside. At this point the valley is also called the Golden Valley.

Thomas Keble School is a mixed secondary school located in Eastcombe in the English county of Gloucestershire. The school is named after Thomas Keble, a Church of England clergyman who contributed four of the Tracts for the Times. Outside of the main building, there is a memorial tree with a plaque dedicated to the life of Thomas Keble. The plaque reads: "In memory of those who came before us, we honour you." The tree was planted by Julia Abbott on 18 August 1991, the plaque being added later that year. Known as Manor School until September 1990, Thomas Keble School was previously administered by Gloucestershire County Council, and became a specialist Technology College in September 2002. The school was awarded high performing specialist school status in 2006, enabling a second specialism in sport. Thomas Keble gained foundation school status in 2007 and the school was converted to academy status in August 2011. However the school continues to coordinate with Gloucestershire County Council for admissions. Thomas Keble School offers GCSEs, BTECs, OCR Nationals and ASDAN courses as programmes of study for pupils.

Strawberry Banks (grid reference SO910033) is a 5.06-hectare (12.5-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, notified in 1993.This is a Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust nature reserve. The banks are thought to have once been used to grow strawberries, hence the name, and be the crash site of a Second World War German bomber. Strawberry Banks adjoins the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust Three Groves Wood nature reserve and lies on the west-facing slopes of a small valley in the Cotswolds between the villages of France Lynch and Oakridge. The site is roughly 5 km (3 miles) east of Stroud. Strawberry Banks and Three Groves Wood are part of a group of nature reserves in Stroud's Golden Valley.The site supports a large population of the marsh fritillary butterfly, and it is also one of the few sites in Britain at which the oil beetle Meloe rugosus occurs.

Oakridge is a village in Gloucestershire, England. The parish church is St. Bartholomew's Church. It is just on the outskirts of Stroud, Gloucestershire. Oakridge consists of five hamlets; Oakridge Lynch, Far Oakridge, Waterlane, Bournes Green, and Tunley. Within Oakridge Lynch can be found the parish church of St. Bartholomew's, the nearby Oakridge Parochial School primary, the village Shop and Post Office, The Butchers Arms pub, and the Village Hall. The Butchers Arms is an 18th-century building with stone walls and oak beamed ceilings. The Annual Oakridge Village Show is held on the first Saturday in September at the local recreation ground.

St Mary's Crossing Halt was opened on 12 October 1903 on what is now the Golden Valley Line between Kemble and Stroud. This line was opened in 1845 as the Cheltenham and Great Western Union Railway from Swindon to Gloucester and this was one of many small stations and halts built on this line for the local passenger service. This halt opened with the introduction of the GWR steam railmotor services between Stonehouse and Chalford. St Mary's Crossing is a minor level crossing for an access road between Brimscombe and Chalford. The halt was built immediately east of this crossing and was situated at the western end of the St Mary's viaduct which carried the line over the Thames and Severn Canal. The halt featured two wooden platforms, GWR pagoda style shelters, and uniquely for the halts in the Stroud Valley, a metal footbridge, which was provided after a young lady was killed crossing the line. On the other side of the level crossing on the down side was the St Mary's Crossing signal box. Closure of the halt came in November 1964 following the withdrawal of local stopping passenger services on the line. No trace of the halt remains today, but the signal box still exists to control the level crossing to St Mary's Mill.

The Cotswold Gliding Club (CGC) is based at Aston Down airfield, between Cirencester and Stroud in Gloucestershire, South West England. The club maintains a fleet of aircraft for training purposes, and is a centre for cross-country gliding and competitions.

Eastcombe is a village in Stroud District in Gloucestershire, England. The Parish Church is called Eastcombe: St Augustine and served the parish of Bussage with Eastcombe and the benefice of Bisley, Chalford, France Lynch and Oakridge and Bussage with Eastcombe and belongs to the diocese of Gloucester. It was announced in November 2021 that the church would be closed and the building sold. Eastcombe is situated in the South West (England) region of the UK and is governed by Stroud District Council.The village of Eastcombe is in the Gloucestershire region of Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Bath/Bristol area within South West (England). Thomas Keble School is a secondary school located in the village.

Three Groves Wood (grid reference SO912029) is a 3.3-hectare (8.2-acre) nature reserve in Gloucestershire. The site is listed in the ‘Stroud District’ Local Plan, adopted November 2005, Appendix 6 (online for download) as a Key Wildlife Site (KWS).The site is owned and managed by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. It was given to the trust in 1986 (anonymous donor).

St Mary of the Angels Church is located to the south of the village of Brownshill in the parish of Chalford, Gloucestershire, England. It is a redundant Roman Catholic church vested in the Friends of Friendless Churches. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

Aston Down is in Gloucestershire, South West England, 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) east of Minchinhampton, 6 miles (10 km) southeast of Stroud and 7 miles (11 km) west of Cirencester. The nearest settlement is the large village of Chalford, 1 mile (1.6 km) to the northwest. The airfield was used by the Royal Air Force from the First World War until 1967 when the Cotswold Gliding Club moved in from their previous base near Tetbury. In 2002 the land and most of hangars surrounding the airfield were sold by the Ministry of Defence to private developers for use as industrial units.

Bisley-with-Lypiatt is a civil parish in the Stroud district of Gloucestershire, England. It had a population of 2350 in 2019. It includes Bisley, Lypiatt, Eastcombe and Oakridge.Parishes adjoining Bisley-with-Lypiatt are: Miserden to the north; Edgeworth to the north-east; Duntisbourne Rouse to the east; Sapperton to the south-east; Chalford to the south; Thrupp to the south-west; Stroud to the west; and Painswick to the north-west. Of these, Edgeworth, Duntisbourne Rouse and Sapperton are in the Cotswold district, the remainder in Stroud.
